Abstract: With the advent of Globalisation, Information and Communication Technologies have made a significant mark in terms of teaching and learning with their rapid diffusion and adoption throughout the educational scenario. However, these ICT’s are not yet accepted, or used in our everyday social practices. Most of the educational institutes still follow the conventional method of teaching and learning in a country like India. ICT can improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools, especially the primary schools where the children are more connected to the digital world. Primary school teaching is perhaps the most challenging task a teacher can ever undertake. In terms of slightly mature and young adults, teaching and learning is comparatively an easier job, however, when it comes to children of the primary school going age, sustaining their attention and analysing what goes in their minds, is a task in itself. It is the teacher’s job to make the content delivery more exciting, rewarding and a successful experience for the primary school going learners in order to enable them to achieve their potential.
There are in-numerous challenges in terms of implementation of ICTE (Information Communication Technology in Education). The government, civil society and stakeholders should have an integrated plan of action to overcome the challenges of use and implementation of ICTE’s.  A long-term vision on the integration of ICTE is a clear necessity to provide guidance and motivation to enthusiastic early adopters and other stakeholders. A vision is also crucial to actively plan for the deployment of ICT within the sector. In the longer term, the active participation of the government is essential to ensure the sector-wide introduction of ICTE (Information Communication Technology in Education). Government involvement is critical to source additional investments in the ICT infrastructure, to integrate ICT in the curriculum, and to facilitate the widespread diffusion of materials.

Abstract: The study aimed to analyze the editorial cartoons of the broadsheet, Philippine Daily Inquirer, using semiotic concepts revealing the signs and the symbol/index/icon triad, reflected in the cartoons concerning the 2013 Presidential election.

The editorial cartoons were obtained from the official website of Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI). Editorial cartoons related to the May 2013 election were selected and were analyzed using Chandler’s (2011) semiotic concepts on signs and symbol/index/icon triad. The semiotic concepts were utilized to reveal the meaning of the editorial cartoons. The analyses were checked and reviewed by experts.

The editorial cartoons illustrate the Filipinos’ perception of the election in relation to the concerns, anomalies and popular and the infamous personalities involved which have been the cartoonists’ medium to freely mirror the views of the common folks. In light of the 2013 election, the signs that circulate within the society and which the society formed were in majority attacking the issue of the Philippines’ struggle toward a clean and honest election.

Abstract: The present study is an attempt to examine the relationship between academic delay of gratification and academic volition in student teachers. Sample for the study includes 40 urban student teachers of B.Ed. and M.Ed. classes of an education college in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The data for measuring delay of gratification is collected using Academic Delay of Gratification Scale (ADOGS) for college students prepared by Hefer Bembenutty (1997). Academic volition of the student teachers is measured by collecting data using the Academic VolitionalStrategy Inventory (AVSI) for college students prepared by MacCann and Garcia (2000). For data analysis, Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation coefficient is used. The significance of the test is calculated using critical value table for Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation for the level of significance α at 0.05. The findings of the study reveal that the variables academic delay of gratification and academic volition are positively and moderately related in student teachers.  No role of course on the variables was found in the study.

The data for measuring Emotional intelligence is collected by using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Adolescent Short Form (TEIQue-ASF), prepared by Petrides, K. V. & Furnham, A. (2006) for adolescents. Academic volition of the student teachers is measured by collecting data using the Academic Volitional Strategy Inventory (AVSI) for college students prepared by Maccann and Garcia (2000). For data analysis, Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation coefficient is used. The significance of the test is calculated using critical value table for Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation for the level of significance α at 0.01. The findings of the study reveal that academic volition is positively and moderately related to emotional intelligence in students teachers.  No role of course was found in the variables studied.

The data for measuring Emotional intelligence is collected by using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Adolescent Short Form (TEIQue-ASF), prepared by Petrides, K. V. & Furnham, A. (2006) for adolescents. The data for measuring delay of gratification is collected using Academic Delay of Gratification Scale (ADOGS) for college students prepared by Hefer Bembenutty (1997). Academic volition of the student teachers is measured by collecting data using the Academic VolitionalStrategy Inventory (AVSI) for college students prepared by MacCann and Garcia (2000). For data analysis, Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation coefficient and Multiple Regression are used. The significance of the test is calculated using critical value table for Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation and F-test for the level of significance α at 0.05, using SPSS ver.20. The findings of the study reveal that the linear combination of variables academic delay of gratification and academic volition positively and moderately predict the variable emotional intelligence in students teachers.

Abstract: This study determined the effects of violent TV cartoons on the attitudes of some selected pupils in the City of Mati Central Elementary School II. It investigated their socio-demographic characteristics, TV exposure; their attitudes before and after exposure to violent TV cartoons; the significant difference between their pre-test and post-test attitudinal scores, analysed the significant relationship between the socio-demographic characteristics and their attitudes towards aggression. Seventy (70) Grade IV pupils of Mati Central Elementary School II were included in the study where majority were ten years old and dominated by females (38) and 32 males. They viewed three recorded violent TV cartoons. Most of the children were exposed to television spending an average of 2.2 hours per week when they still awake at night time thus most of them (79%) were cartoons viewers and watched violent T.V. cartoons. Both males and females had moderately aggressive attitude during the pre-test. After viewing 3 violent T.V. cartoons, males’ aggressiveness declined while females become more aggressive. It was further found out that there was a significant relationship between females’ pre-test and post-test attitudinal scores. Most females were avid viewers of non-violent cartoons and spent more time watching cartoons than males. Males were more attracted to violent TV shows and spent more time viewing TV than their female counterparts. Intervening variables included in the analyses, sex, family size and sibling status were known to have affected the change of attitude among respondents.
