Abstract:The purpose of the study is to determine the assessment of public elementary school administrators and elementary school teachers with regards to the administrative orientation and role behaviors of school administrators as basis for effective implementation of school-based management in the Division of City Schools, Olongapo City, Philippines. It sought to answer what is the profile of public elementary school administrators and teacher respondents in terms of age, sex, civil status, highest educational attainment, present position and length of service? It also endeavored to answer how may the administrative orientation of the school administrators be described in terms of planning, organizing, directing and controlling? Furthermore, it sought answer to the question what is the role behavior of school administrators in terms of administration and supervision and the underpinning factors and the questions how do the profile and the managerial functions affect the role behavior of School Administrators and what are the implications of the findings towards effective implementation of school-based management? The null hypotheses to be tested are: there is no significant relationship on role behavior of the school administrators when respondents were grouped according to age, sex, highest educational attainment, present position and length of service; and there is no significant relationship between the administrative orientation and role behavior of the school administrators. The is essentially descriptive in nature. It had used questionnaire-checklist as the main instrument in gathering needed information. Informal interviews and observations were employed as auxiliary method of data-gathering. The universal sampling was employed in the selection of public elementary school administrators as respondents. On the other hand, the simple stratified random sampling was used in the case of the teacher-respondents.  The data gathered from the questionnaire were collated, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted using Statistical Packages for Social Science or SPSS to answer the questions posted in this study and to test the hypotheses. The Percentage, Weighted Mean, Residual Variance and R-Square and Correlation Coefficient R, were used in this study.

Abstract:Asthma is a serious challenge to public health. The Egyptian guidelines for asthmatic child documented that, asthma is being increasingly diagnosed among Egyptian children. Aim of the study: is to examine the effect of school based intervention for asthmatic adolescents and school nurses in reducing bronchial asthma among adolescents. Study design: A quasi experimental design (pre-post test) was used. Setting: the study was done in Shbeen El-Koom district public schools. Study sample: A convenience sample of 67 asthmatic adolescents and all the school nurses (18) of the selected public schools (35). Tools: Asthma Knowledge Questionnaire used to assess the adolescents and school nurses asthma knowledge and assessed the school nurses' asthma practices. Results: the knowledge score of the adolescents and school nurses about asthma pre-intervention was highly improved post–intervention. Regarding the school nurses' asthma practices, the mean score of post –intervention was significantly higher than pre-intervention mean scores. The rates of adolescents' school absenteeism, visits of out chest clinics or emergency department and hospitalization were significantly decreased post intervention. Conclusion; Implementation of school-based intervention of asthma succeed in making improvement in adolescents and school nurses' asthma knowledge and in school nurses' asthma practices. Adolescent' rates of school absenteeism, visits of out chest clinics or emergency department and hospitalization were significantly decreased. Recommendation; implementation of asthma interventions continuously for asthmatic adolescents and school nurses can have a significant positive impact on asthmatic adolescents.

The adolescents' school absenteeism rate was significantly decreased post intervention. Conclusion; this study findings approved the research hypothesis and assured that, the implementation of school-based intervention of asthma succeed in making improvement in the participants' asthma knowledge. Recommendation; implementation of asthma intervention for asthmatic adolescents and teachers within schools may reduce asthma among adolescents.

Abstract:Growing body of literature suggests that Epstein’s theoretical lens of Parenting, communicating, volunteering, and learning at home, decision making and collaborating with the Community has little bearing on preschoolers’ education. The purpose of the study was to explore Perspectives of Preschool lead teachers on Epstein’s theoretical lens of Parental involvement in Pre-schoolers education in Kenya. The objective of the study was to find out the perspectives of preschool lead teachers on Epstein’s theoretical lens of Parental involvement in preschoolers’ education. The study employed concurrent triangulation research design of the mixed methods research. The study employed Epstein’s theory (1987) and a conceptual framework. The units of analysis were 65 public primary schools. The target populations were 65 Preschool lead teachers and 6 Community Opinion Leaders. The sample consisted of 46 preschool lead teachers and 6 Community opinion leaders. Stratified and purposive sampling techniques were used in the study. The study employed Questionnaires, interview and Focus Group Discussion to obtain data for study. Reliability of the instruments was ascertained by piloting in 7 public primary schools while validity was ascertained through expert judgment of the supervisors. Data was analyzed by qualitative and quantitative analysis. Qualitative data analysis involved thematic analysis. Quantitative data analysis involved descriptive statistics in the form of frequency counts, percentages and means. Findings of the study revealed that, generally, the preschool lead teachers scored a mean of 3.48(69.63%) on the likert scale showing that they were undecided on application of Epstein’s theoretical lens of parental involvement in preschoolers education. They perceived poor home parenting and learning of preschoolers and that parents were not properly involved in decision making of their children at school. It was concludes that preschoolers’ home parenting, learning at home and parental involvement in decision making affecting preschoolers at school were in jeopardy. The study recommended parents to rethink their learning roles of preschoolers’ education at home. This study would be significant to all the stakeholders of education. A study on effective parental home determinants of preschoolers learning would expound the understanding of the present study.

Findings of the study generally revealed that the community opinion leaders had varying perspectives on the application of Epstein’s theoretical lens of parental involvement in preschoolers learning. However, most of the community opinion leaders were of the view that proper home learning environment for pre-schoolers was not being provided. It was concluded that preschoolers’ home parenting and learning and parental involvement in preschoolers’ education were in jeopardy. Abstract:The purpose of this study was to analyze the considerations of an adaptive leader that are related to the management of change. To better understand what adaptive leadership is, the intent of this study is to offer a description of adaptive leadership and adaptive work theory; analyze the concerns, which affect an adaptive leader as they relate to the management of change, assess the key factors of adaptive leadership, and adaptive work theory as they influence followers in implementing change.

Abstract:This research focused on the researchers’ personal experience and observations of two important leadership and employee variables; the narcissistic leader and the trauma bestowed onto employees by narcissistic leaders. This study reveals the definition of a narcissistic leader which encompasses the desire to be the center of attention through the destruction of both professional and personal lives. The wrath of the narcissistic leader is devastating not only to the employee that is being targeted but also to the organization that employs such a monster. The trauma is brutal and debilitating, one that must cease immediately for the well-being of the affected employee.

Abstract:Herewith nurturant effect of scientific approach-based learning model on student attitude growth of honesty, responsibility and creativity. This learning/course model has been conducted on Research Method Course for six months at Indonesian Language Department of Universitas Siliwangi Tasikmalaya. The used Method of research was experimental collecting test data and observation. Data was processed quantitatively by mean test and different test. The result known that scientific approach based learning give positive impact on the growth of honesty, responsibility and creativity toward student attitude. It’s suggested to the other courses using scientific approach.

Abstract:Research was conducted to assist in deciphering which of the three qualitative research methods are best fitting for a researcher seeking to perform a qualitative study for academic purposes. This study compared and contrasted the following qualitative research methods: case study, phenomenological, and grounded theory. Findings and the issues associated with sample selection, validity, and biases in such a study were analyzed and synthesized to determine which is best suited for a potential dissertation topic.

Abstract:In Kenya, the fundamental challenge facing learning of mathematics in secondary schools is how to enhance students’ conceptual understanding associated with the learning process. Based on this challenge, the present study investigated the influence of using Problem Solving Approach on gender differences in mathematics achievement in Commercial Arithmetics in Kenya. The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of Problem Solving Approach (PSA) on gender differences in mathematics achievement in Commercial Arithmetics in comparison to the conventional methods. Students from one hundred and nine schools from Vihiga County formed the population of the study. Stratified random sampling was used to select twelve schools from the 109 schools.  A total of 1459 Form Three students were selected from the twelve schools that participated in the study. The respondents were from national, county and sub-county schools. The Solomon Four-Group design was used in the study. The respondents were assigned in their intact classes to four groups namely; experimental groups 1 and 3, and control groups 2 and 4. All the groups were taught the same content of the topic Commercial Arithmetics. However, groups 1 and 3 were taught using Problem Solving Approach while groups 2 and 4 were taught by conventional methods. Groups 1 and 2 were pre-tested prior to the implementation of the Problem Solving Approach treatment. Mathematics Achievement Test 1 and Mathematics Achievement Test 2 were used to collect data. The instruments’ validity was determined by the researcher, a panel of mathematics educators from the Department of Science and Mathematics Education at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and experienced secondary school mathematics teachers. A reliability coefficient was determined by Cronbach’s Coefficient alpha formula. Reliability coefficients of 0.795 and 0.872 were obtained for Mathematics Achievement Test 1 and Mathematics Achievement Test 2 respectively.  After the treatment, all the four groups were post-tested. Significance of differences between the means of the experimental and control groups on the variables of pre-test and post-test were measured by the t-test and Analysis of Variance. The results show that increased learning occurred among students where Problem Solving Approach was used and that there are significant gender differences in mathematics achievement favouring boys. The researcher concluded that Problem Solving Approach is a more effective instructional approach to boys and girls of the problem solving group than to those of the conventional group. The Problem Solving Approach was helpful in enhancing the learning of mathematics, facilitated in making the subject easily understandable to both genders and consequently their achievement in the subject. Therefore, mathematics educators should encourage mathematics teachers to use it and teacher educators to make it part of the teacher-training curriculum.

Abstract:This paper describes a study on evaluation of the suitability of Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) radio broadcast Audio Compact Discs (CDs) as teaching materials in secondary schools. The evaluation involved listening to CDs based on the five prescribed literary texts several times and used a note book and a listening guide to record information regarding the suitability of the CDs. The findings of the study revealed the following strengths; of the five set text based CDs, all had stated specific objectives clearly; they addressed quite relevant and sufficient content about literary aspects of the texts and were interactional with the learning audience. The contents were coupled with relevant illustrations and appropriate music which captured attentiveness of the listening audience and therefore made the learning interesting. However, the findings indicated certain subtle weaknesses; they were over ambitious since they attempted to cover many concepts at the end of every 15-20 minutes at the expense of providing detailed explanation on a particular concept. The CDs also disregard the relevance of the integrated English approach which is the policy framework within which the curriculum developer expects English language teachers to use for instructional purposes in secondary schools. Moreover, they lacked broadcast teaching guides. The study recommended that a review to include the integration and more lesson time would not only develop a more relevant curriculum but also offer insights and models on how language educators need to incorporate the CDs into the Integrated English Language Curriculum classrooms. 

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to find out the financial management challenges facing newly appointed head teachers in public day secondary schools in Siaya sub-county, Kenya. The objectives of the study were to find out procurement challenges facing the newly appointed head teachers, to examine the accounting challenges facing the newly appointed head teachers ,to determine the budgetary challenges facing the newly appointed head teachers and find out the auditing challenges facing the newly appointed head teachers. The study used descriptive survey design and was influenced by Henry Fayol financial management theory of 2011.The theoretical framework was used to create awareness and understanding of the situation under scrutiny. The units of analysis were 27 secondary schools drawn from Siaya sub-county. The study targeted 27 head teachers, 27 deputy headteachers, 27 accounts clerks and 1 SQASO. Data collection instruments were questionnaires and interview schedules. The validity of the research instruments were established by expert judgment by two members of the department of Curriculum and Educational Management. Reliability of the instruments was addressed by piloting in 4 schools within the sub-county. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of means, frequencies and percentages. Qualitative data was analyzed on the basis of emerging themes and sub-themes of the study. The findings of the study may be useful to the County Director of Education Siaya County to place mechanisms assisting newly appointed head teachers in public secondary schools become efficient and effective managers. The study may also help the newly appointed head teachers in equipping themselves with financial management skills. On the issue of procurement challenges facing the newly appointed head teachers, the study found out that school debt, frequent changes in policy, delay in FSE funds and influence from sponsors were the main procurement challenges. The financial accounting challenges were lack of accounting books, poor record keeping, fraud and theft and lack of financial skills. On the concern about financial budgetary challenges, the study found out that inadequate financial skills, influence from stakeholders, inflation and school debt were the budgetary challenges facing the newly appointed head teachers. The significant auditing challenges were delayed audit reports, ignorance of head teachers on financial skills, irregular auditing and doubling up of head teachers roles in schools. It was concluded that auditing challenges were the real issues affecting the newly appointed head teachers. It was therefore recommended that head teachers should undertake training on financial management that were very key in their new appointment. A study on preparation and induction of newly appointed head teachers would expound the understanding of the present study.

Abstract:The purpose; This study aimed to evaluate the effect of educational guidelines on health needs management for patients undergoing percutaneous balloon mitral valvotomy (PBMV) Design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized in this study Setting: the study was conducted at Eldemrdash and Ain Shams Specialized Hospitals affiliated to Ain Shams university hospitals. Sample: A purposive sample of (80) adult patients included both genders undergoing PBMV, from the above mentioned settings. Tools: four tools were regarding PBMV health needs management 1) Patients, interviewing questionnaire (pre / post /follow-up tests) 2). An observation checklist (pre / post tests/ follow-up tests) to evaluate studied patients' practices in relation to PBMV health needs management. 3) Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (pre / post tests) to assess anxiety level. 4) Numerical pain scale (pre / post tests/ follow-up tests) to assess pain severity level. Results: most of studied patients were males 55.0 % with the age above 35 years and married.  There were a high statistical significant differences as regards to Physical, psychological, social, and spiritual health needs management post educational guidelines for PBMV 16.9, 54.6,11.0, 31.5 respectively. Concerning pain level and anxiety there were an improvement post educational guidelines 39.8 ± 22.6, 45.0 ± 28.3 respectively. Conclusion: On light of the present study results, the educational guidelines had a positive effect on health needs (physical, social, psychological, spiritual and educational) management for patients undergoing percutaneous balloon mitral valvotomy (PBMV).  In addition, significant reduction was observed in post and follow – up tests regarding anxiety and pain levels. Recommendations: Further studies should be carried out on a large number of patients with percutaneous balloon mitral valvotomy (PBMV) for evidence of the results and generalization. 

Abstract:English for Specific Purposes (ESP) was designed to appeal learners learning languages in specific disciplines. ESP concerns on lexical words that are designed explicitly or have their own definition in specific fields. As engineering students work with texts such as manuals and procedures that contain an abundance of technical terms that have specific meaning in the engineering field, the vocabulary knowledge of technical terms is crucial for them to understand the texts. Nevertheless, engineering students were found to have difficulties whenever they encountered texts filled with technical terms. Hence, this study aims to investigate the vocabulary size of technical vocabulary among engineering students at Universiti Malaysia Pahang. This research employs mixed method design as both quantitative and qualitative paradigms are involved in this research. The instruments used in this research are technical vocabulary test and semi-structured interview. The test was used in collecting quantitative data while the semi-structured interview was used in collecting qualitative data. The test was administered to 150 students majoring in five different engineering courses who were currently on their third and fourth year of study whereas the interview involved 12 students from five respective engineering courses. The findings show that there is a significant difference in technical vocabulary size among engineering undergraduates based on their field of study.
