Abstract: The flexible Ac transmission system (FACTS) controllers can play an important role in the power system security enhancement.  However, due to high capital investment, it is necessary to locate these controllers optimally in the power system. FACTS devices can regulate the active and reactive power control as well as adaptive to voltage-magnitude control simultaneously because of their flexibility and fast control characteristics. Placement of these devices in suitable location can lead to control in line flow and maintain bus voltages in desired level and so improve voltage stability margins. This paper describes the theory and Experimental approach of flexible Alternative Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices used in the disturbed power systems. Out of three, one of these devices, Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) will be chosen for a specific application, detailed in this paper.

Abstract: Motion control of stepper motor for video surveillance system (CCTV) is very important issue in today life. Hybrid stepper motor is widely used in precision position application because resolution of hybrid stepper motor is high. In open loop control ,the speed response of HSM suffer from large overshoot, oscillatory response and settling time .Additionally the motor must respond to each excitation change . If the excitation change is made too quickly, the stepper motor may lose some steps and therefore it will be unable to move the rotor to new demanded position. There for, a permanent error can be introduced between the load position and the expected by the controller. Due to this limitation, the stepper motor cannot be used without feedback sensor and closed loop control system with high performance application where the exact position or rotor speed is required.

Abstract: One of the problems that affect the development of vision based robot is the Image accuracy taken by camera mounted on the robot. Robot Vision with Image programming and filtration technique of that image improves the accuracy and can also be used as a diagnostic tool in robot production and maintenance.  This work presents techniques for measuring distance as well as height of the target/object/wall using Laser beam pixel area (LBPA) based Image programming technique. As an alternative routine a hybrid system is proposed here. The proposed measurement system is portable, accurate and low cost, able to use in outdoor region also, consisting of a single camera with laser pointer mounted on the robot.It is not a robot building hunt basically it focuses on machine vision or robot vision. Results in past literature shows that the achieved distances  using White line tracing algorithm with single camera& without laser varies from 0.11m to 0.66m i.e. less than one meter. Experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed method for the measurement of distance as well as height of target/wall/object in indoor as well as outdoor environments. The results on the basis of experiments areanalysed as distance & height can be measured accurately using new LBPA approach.This proposed methodology is fast, accurate and easy to set up with this approach possible future refinements are also discussed.

Abstract: This paper presents the simulation based comparative analysis of DFIG (Doubly Fed Induction Generator) based wind farms and conventional wind farms with synchronous generator connected to power grid.  A suitable model of doubly fed induction generator for wind turbine system is developed in MATLAB/Simulink, then this model is analysed by simulating it in time domain. This Model simulation analysis is used to study the effect on system stability while replacing conventional generation system with synchronous generator by DFIG-based wind generation system. The results show that the oscillatory behaviour associated with the dominant mode of the synchronous generator is improved when the DFIG-based wind turbine is connected to the system.

Abstract: This paper presents the analysis and simulation using Matlab/Simulink of a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) for reducing the harmonics current generated by nonlinear loads.Due to increasing the usage of power electronics equipment with linear load, the increase of the harmonics disturbance in the ac mains currents has became a major concern due to the adverse effects on all equipment mostly capacitors, transformers, and motors, causing  additional  losses, overloading, malfunctioning and overheating and interferences. Shunt Active Power filter is used to compensate the harmonics due to nonlinear load  by injecting equal but opposite harmonic compensating current which gives pure sinusoidal wave[1].

Abstract: This paper reviews recent work on power distribution systems reliability areas and identifies challenges facing power distribution planning in adopting reliability assessment. By study we understand analysis performed on models that evaluate distribution system reliability for a simultaneous different factor affecting reliability. We review work the basic principles of which have been described by others, but implementation requires practical management decisions. Changes have implications for the relationship between the distributors of electricity and the Regulator. We also mention whether the work has been done at the strategic level, i.e. if it concerns the planning of power distribution system based on reliability and uncertainty.

Abstract: In this paper, a transformer designed for high frequency operation is tested at different frequencies to analyse various aspects of the transformer, with and without load, and a performance comparison is done with the conventional transformer. The same specifications of the transformer are fed into the Matlab/Simulink model of the transformer and results are found to be adequate. A three stage topology of solid state transformer is selected in both software and hardware testing because of its paramount characteristics over the other topologies. The solid state technology led to the reduction in the physical profile of the transformer with power electronic devices on both the sides of the transformer in conjunction with the ancillary services provided by the introduction of power electronic devices into the system. The transformer when operating at higher frequencies (50 – 100 Hz) excelled in the temperature test with very little rise in temperature when compared to the conventional operation at 50 Hz and with suitable cooling system the high frequency operation will prove to be more advantageous. As conventional transformers with copper wound wires on an iron core will not respond to a control signal as power generation becomes distributed and with distributed generation (DG) on the rise, we need electronic based regulated power supply with software based remote intelligence. So, the present power grid has to oblige to solid state technology with the intention of being titled smart.
