Abstract:Chronic kidney disease refers to irreversible kidney damage that can further progress to end-stage renal disease and dramatically affects children's quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of empowerment program on mothers to improve quality of life of their children with chronic kidney disease. Subjects and methods; Quasi experimental design was used, fifty five children with chronic kidney disease from both sex and their mothers were included in the study;the study conducted at Children’s Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. The tools of data collection included questionnaire sheet to assess knowledge of the studied mothers, observation sheet to assess the studied mothers practice, family empowerment scale and empowerment program as well as pediatric quality of life inventory version 4.0 to assess quality of life of the studied children. The results revealed that 70.9% of the studied mothers had unsatisfactory knowledge about CKD pre intervention. Meanwhile the majority (90.9%) of them had satisfactory knowledge post intervention, where x²= 43.78 and p- value = .001. A statistical significance difference was observed pre/post empowerment program implementation regarding to knowledge and practice of mothers about the disease and its management; also, there was a statistical significance difference pre/ post empowerment program implementation regarding to quality of life of children with chronic kidney disease with p- value= .030. Conclusion: There was positive effect of empowerment program on improving knowledge and practice of the studied mothers as well as quality of life of their children with chronic kidney disease. Recommendations: Encourage use of empowerment program for mothers having children with chronic kidney disease based on their actual needs assessment. Further researches are needed to improve quality of life of children with chronic kidney disease.

Abstract:Male nurses have induced into the profession for a decade and their number is increasing. This represents a challenge and a change in societal expectations. It is believed that intrusion of nursing by males might improve the perception about it and increase diversity of skills in health care team. Gender diversity in nursing is expected to enhance decision making abilities and create a positive, competitive and innovative work climate. Aim: The aim of the study was to determine the patients' perception of care provided by male nurses in Alexandria Governorate.Material and method: An exploratory descriptive design was used. The study was conducted in five hospitals, namely; Main University Hospital and EL -Hadara Orthopedic Hospital affiliated to Alexandria University, El-Mabara Hospital affiliated to Curative Health Organization, whereas Mabaret El-Asaphra andAlex New Medical Center (ANMC) affiliated to private sector at Alexandria governorate. Patients' perception of care provided by male nurses structured interview schedulewas used for data collection. The sample consisted of 300 patients, randomly selected from the previously mentioned settings who were willing to participate in the study.Results: the study showed thatmore than half of the subjects had positive perception regarding male nurse care. Moreover, there was significant difference between gender group and level of perception where (P= 0.000). Also, there was statistically significant difference between age and level of perception where (P= 0.011). In relation to the preferences of receiving care from male nurses it was noticed that mean value ofmale group was (14.14 ± 2.67) while mean value of female group was (9.11 ± 3.15), a significant difference was found between the two groups where (p<0.001).Conclusion: More than half of the patients who receiving care from male nurses having a positive perception. On the other side, a high percentage which cannot be neglected especially for young female patients stated that they felt embarrassed and stressed when male nurses touched them especially during sensitive procedures. Also, they stated the male nurses need more skills in communication and providing sense of caring.Recommendation: Male nurse have intense needs in-service training programs in governmental and nongovernmental hospitals regarding nonverbal communication clues that convey sense of caring. Furthermore, Faculty of nursing should adopt graduate male nurses psychologically and educationally after graduation in form of participations in scientific meetings, conferences, graduation magazine and social media support groups. One of the recommended solutions is to updating educational nursing programs to provide equal learning opportunities without gender bias and inducing new specialty for male students.

Abstract:Worldwide, evidence-based practice has become a concern for healthcare professionals, policymakers, and researchers. The integration of evidence into clinical practice is a priority for the healthcare organization. Evidence-based practice improves patient outcomes, promotes consistency of healthcare, and achieves quality. Aim: This study aimed to explore healthcare professionals’knowledge and views toward evidence-based practice approach. Research design: Qualitative phenomenological study design was used to accomplish this study. Setting: The study was conducted at various healthcare organizations ;Mansoura university hospitals, health insurance hospitals, and primary healthcare centers at Mansoura district during the period from December 2017 until July 2018. Subject and sampling:Judgmental and quota sampling techniques were used to select the participants who were included 82 of healthcare professionals’who have a bachelor’s degree and higher. Data collection: Focus group discussion was used to collect data by using open-ended questions that developed to achieve the goal of the study. Results: Few healthcare professionals (n=5) were aware of the evidence-based practice concept and its steps. More than half of healthcare professionals were aware of the evidence benefits and less than one-quarter knew only one type of clinical questions. More than one–quarter of healthcare professionals used PubMed in searching for information and less than half of them mentioned that the journal is the source for dissemination of evidence. Moreover, more than half of healthcare professionals viewed that evidence-based practice as a complex approach and they reported that the clinical environment is not supportive of applying this approach. Conclusion: We found that healthcare professionals’have a lack of knowledge and negative views toward evidence-based practice approach. This is due to the presence of barriers relevant to the individual, organizational, and patient factors. Therefore, healthcare organizations should seek to provide educational training for improving the knowledge and views of healthcare professionals toward this approach.

Abstract:Postpartum depression is a major health problem in reproductive-aged women especially in the Saudi Arabia. The association of sunlight exposure and postpartum depression is still unclear.
The aim of this study was to investigate the association between sunlight exposure and postpartum depression among Saudi women inAl-Quwyiyah city.
Design: A descriptive correlational analytical research design was adopted.
Setting: The study was conducted at the delivery and postpartum unit in Al-Quwyiyah General Hospital,Al-Quwyiyah city, Saudi Arabia.
Subjects: A total of 200 postpartum mothers were recruited.
Tools: Three tools were used; Structured interview questionnaire which included: socio-demographic characteristics as well as reproductive history; Edinburg Postpartum Depression Scale;andPHQ-9 Depression scale.
Results: The mean age of the study sample was  26.5 ± 5.7 years old. 86% were housewives. 74.5% were urban residence. 55% of the studied sample had postpartum depression and 1% had suicidal thoughts. There was a statistically significant deference between the depression severity degree among the studied sample (p< 0.05). The mean score of depression increased with the increased duration of postpartum.
In conclusion: There was a positive association between sunlight exposure and postpartum depressionamong Saudi women in Al-Quwyiyah city.
Recommendation: Sunlight exposure may substantially reduce the frequency of postpartum depression among mothers. Educational programs to focus on the importance of sunlight exposure should be carried out in order to prevent postpartum depression among mothers.Educational and training program for nurses about how to use Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale is very important.

Abstract:Suctioning of secretions from endotracheal tube is one of the basic procedures performed daily for mechanically ventilated patients at pediatric intensive care unit. Two methods for suctioning are used and known as an open and closed suction. This study was aimed to investigate effectiveness of suctioning methods on cardiorespiratory parameters among critically ill childrenundergoingmechanical ventilation. Research design: quasi-experimentalwas carried out to meet the aim of this study. Subjects: A purposive sample included 60 pediatric patients undergoing mechanical ventilation and divided randomly into two group. Setting: The study was done at pediatric intensive care in Aswan University Hospital. Tool: Pediatric assessment sheet was used for collecting data, which included two parts: Child' demographic data and an assessment sheet to monitor children' cardiorespiratory parameters as oxygen saturation, heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and respiratory rates.Results: There were highly statistical significant differences between the two methods of suctioning as regards the mean of respiratory rate, Oxygen saturation, among children before, during and after the closed and open suctioning methods, (P<0.001) while no statistical significant difference were found as regards the mean of heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Conclusion: The use of the closed suction system leads to less disturbances in the cardiorespiratory parameters compared to open suction system among children under mechanical ventilation.Recommendation: Nurses should be encourage in all pediatric intensive care units and trained to implement closed suction system in their sitting.

Abstract:Providing psychological first aid (PFA) is generally considered to be an important element in psychiatric outpatient care of mental disorders is of utmost importance which affect knowledge, attitude and skill of psychiatric nurses and foster recovery of psychiatric patients. The study aimed to determine the effect of psychological first aid training program on nurses' knowledge, skills and attitude. Setting, this study conducted at psychiatric out patient clinic in mental health hospital Assiut City. Methods:  A convenience sample included fifteen psychiatric nurses working at psychiatric out patient clinic, Quasi experimental research  design was used,Tools: self-administered questionnaire scales for assessment of psychological first aid,  psychiatric disorders, attitude toward psychiatric disorder and  skills scales, this tool was used before program implementation, immediate post, and 3 months after the program.Results: there was significant improvement in knowledge, attitude and skills related to psychological first aid and psychiatric disorders of the entire nurses after implementation of the program, While, at the follow-up of the program all nurses  have  some deterioration in all the areas in all areas of  knowledge, skills and  attitude towards psychiatric disorders. There were statistically significant differences between nurses’ their job satisfactions and experience years and their knowledge, skills and attitude throughout the program in all stages of test (P< 0.05). Conclusion: The study concluded that; the implemented program about psychological First Aid Training Program had a significant impact on Nurses' knowledge, skills and attitude toward psychological first aid and psychiatric disorder management.Recommendations: Developing educational material sensitive to community mental health nurses about psychological first aid and psychiatric disorders.

Abstract:The knowledge and practice of mothers is a crucial factor for better vaccination coverage. Previous studies revealed misconceptions of mothers' knowledge toward childhood vaccination. This study aimed at promoting childhood vaccination by providing knowledge about childhood vaccination through an educational booklet. Design Across-sectional study was conducted by using a convenience sampling technique on 383 mothers having children between 12 to 18 months old who admitted in Sinbelaween primary health care facilities. Data collection: Data was collected using pre-designed, pretested five questionnaires. The first three tools were used for exploring mothers' demographic characteristics, their knowledge regarding childhood vaccination as well as, their perceived practice before, during and after vaccinating their children. Moreover, the fourth and fifth questionnaires were used to explore the mothers and professional experts' opinions regarding the developed health educational booklet. Results: The study indicated that the highest percent (34.2%) of mothers were under educated which is the main reason for poor knowledge of childhood vaccination among (80.4%). Half of the studied mothers (55.6%) demonstrated unsatisfactory practices regarding their vaccination care delivered to their children. Conclusion: It is crucial to develop a health educational booklet to raise the mothers’ awareness about obligatory childhood vaccination for more knowledge gain.

Abstract:post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) may result from exposure to any severe traumatic event, and can take various forms. It is prevalent, disabling and highly co-morbid with other disorders. PSTD affects behavior, and cognition. It also affects mood regulation, generates maladaptive action, and distorts thoughts. Aim: This study aimed to estimate the effect of Self-healing program on holistic health and wellness for patients with post-traumatic stress disorders.Design: The study followed a quasi-experimental design. Setting: this study was conducted in out patient's clinics of the Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurosurgery Center affiliated to Tanta University and out patient's clinic of Tanta mental health hospital affiliated to ministry of health at Tanta city. Subjects: A convenient sample of 50 clients constituted the study subjects.Tools:  Tools used were, (I) Holistic Health and Wellness Survey, (II) : depression, anxiety stress scale (DASS) and (III): Life Events Checklist (LEC). Results:  Clients(74%) suffer from trauma related to serious illness and sudden death of relatives or friends , while 90% of the studied clients have severe stress level , 22% have severe  depression and 54% have sever anxiety level before the intervention program . A high statistic positive significant difference was found between patient's score of DASS before and after implementation of self-healing program. There is a significant negative statistic correlation between holistic health and wellness was found with depression, anxiety and stress. Conclusion: The holistic health and wellness total mean scores increased after implementation of self- healing educational program with high positive statistic significant difference between mean scores before and after implementation of self -healing program. Recommendations: apply training program for nurses about self-healing practices, focus on using these practices as one of routine practices with PTSD and use comprehensive treatment modalities in managing PTSD.

Abstract:Nursing audit is performed after discharge from the care facility, using the patient's record. To assure effective patient care, comprehensive audit tools are required. An aim of this study was to assess current nursing performance for patients undergoing hemodialysis, and identify the gap between the current nursing management and nursing care standards for those patients. Research design:  Exploratory research design was used. Setting: The study was conducted in dialysis unit at Ma^,an governmental hospitals- Jordan Subjects: The sample in this study is composed of all available nurses (40 nurses) who are providing direct care to patients in hemodialysis units at previously mentioned hospital. Tools of Data Collection: Self-Administered Interview Questionnaire sheet, an observational check, developed Nursing Care Standards for Patients undergoing haemodialysis,and Nursing Care Standards checklist.Results:The majority of nurses performing all steps of observation checklist for patients before, during, and after hemodialysis procedure correctly except one quarter of nurses perform after dialysis steps incorrectly.There was no statistical significant difference between routine care and standers nursing care for patient undergoing hemodialysis. Conclusion: about quarter of nurses perform after dialysis steps incorrectly. There was no statistical significant difference between routine care and standers nursing care for patient undergoing hemodialysis. Recommendations: Written standards of care against which to evaluate nursing care. Training for auditors should include a group discussion to see how the group rates the care received using the notes of a patient.

Abstract:Assertiveness skill is one of the communication skills that help nursing staff to deal with conflict through expressing one's feelings and needs openly and honestly without denying others' rights. Aim: to determine effect of assertiveness educational program on conflict handling styles for nursing staff at intensive care unit. Setting: Tanta International Teaching Hospital, Medical, Cardiac and Anesthesia ICUs. Subject: all (136) nursing staff working in previous setting. Tools: three tools was  used. Nursing Staff Assertiveness Assessment Scale, Conflict Handling Styles Questionnaire and nurses' knowledge questionnaire. Results: Majority (88.2%) of nursing staff had moderate assertiveness level preprogram that improved postprogram to be 94.9% of them had high assertiveness. 30.1% of total nursing staff preferred avoiding conflict handling style preprogram, while, 35.3% of them preferred collaboration conflict handling style immediately postprogram. Also, there was a statistical significant correlation between ICU nursing staff total assertiveness and all conflict handling styles except avoiding style. Conclusion: Implementation of a designed program lead to significant improvement in nursing staff' knowledge about assertiveness and conflict handling styles. Also, they had high assertiveness level and preferred collaborating conflict handling style. Recommendations: Continuous offerings of staff development activities to improve nurses’ assertiveness behavior and increase their awareness about conflict handling strategies.

Abstract:Surgical site infections (SSI) are a significant cause of post-surgical morbidity and mortality and it is considered to be one of the most common hospital associated infections where it accounts for 14-16% of the total healthcare acquired infections, which might be appropriate to be used as an indicator of surgical quality. The aim of the study: This was aiming to identify infection rates and risk factors associated with SSI following cesarean section, at the maternity hospital, Assuit University, Egypt.  Subjects & Methods: The study population consisted of (n= 285) women who delivered by cesarean section in Assuit University Maternity Hospital during October to December 2014. A common set of patient- and operative-specific variables were evaluated as potential SSI risk factors.Results Bivariate and multivariate analysis was done for proportional risks and an adjusted RR was obtained Multiple logistic regression analysis identified four factors that were independently associated with an increased risk of infection: ASA score (Relative Risk [RR], 1.21; 95% confidence interval [CI95], 0.11-0.81; P= 0.0221); wound class (RR, 1.21; [CI95], 0.13-0.71; P= 0.027); the risk category ( RR, 1.52; 95% confidence interval [CI95], 0.01-0.42; P= 0.014); and prophylactic antibiotic administration for more than 48 hours post-operative  (RR, 1.21; [CI95], 0.11-0.81; P= 0.042).Conclusion: These data suggest that risk factors for SSIs following cesarean sections were multifactorial. Analysis and feedback of the data should continue to act as a catalyst for review of practice aimed at reducing postoperative SSI rates.

Abstract:Higher education institutions are facing many challenges for preparing students to assume future societal roles. Transformational leadership is one of the most effective leadership models to deal with these challenges. The aim of this study was to assess transformational leadership and work engagement among clinical nursing educators. A descriptive correlational research design was utilized in this study. The subjects include all (78) clinical nursing educators working in six academic departments at the Faculty of Nursing Tanta University. Data of the current study was collected by utilizing the following two tools: Transformational Leadership and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale. The results of this study demonstrated that there was a significant positive correlation between transformational leadership and work engagement among clinical nursing educators. Establishing the practical use of transformational leadership and work engagement concepts in nursing education and designing an educational program that focuses on fostering work engagement among clinical nursing educators.

Abstract:Perception of nurses regarding performance appraisal had positive and negative effect on work outcomes such as organizational commitment, work performance, turnover intention, job motivation, and job satisfaction. Aim of the study: The present study aims to assess performance appraisal, work performance, commitment, and turnover intention as perceived by staff nurses and explore the effect of nurses' perception related performance appraisal on work performance, commitment, and turnover intention.Subjects and Methods: A descriptive correlational design was utilized to attain the aim of the present study. The study included (102) staff nurses who represent all staff nurses responsible for providing nursing care to patients at main Mansoura university hospital. Data were collected through using four scales; performance appraisal scale, work performance scale, affective commitment scale and turnover intention scale. Results: nurses' perception related performance appraisal,work performance, affective commitment was at high level and moderate level for turnover intention. Nurses' perception of performance appraisal has positive relation with work performance and affective organizational commitment and negative relation with turnover intention. Recommendations: Nursing performance appraiser should use a standard format for evaluating nurses' performance, it should be specific, accurate, and related to nurses' job and duties to prevent subjectivity and overcome problems as central tendency errors during performance appraisal process. Nurses should have feedback about their performance to help them to improve weakness area related to their performance

Abstract:Health care providers (HCPs) are exposed to blood-borne infections from different pathogens. Standard Precautions (SP) practices are designed to protect healthcare providers (HCPs) and prevent them from spreading infections among patients. Design: descriptive correlational design. Aim: identify the relationship between health care providers' knowledge of and compliance with Standard infection control precautions at Damanhour fever hospital. Setting: Nine inpatient units at Damanhour Fever Hospital. Subjects: 56 nurses, 16 Physicians, 7 Technicians and 5 auxiliary personnel who were available during data collection and agreed to participate in the study. Tools: two tools were developed by the researchers, tool (1): Standard Infection Control Precautions Knowledge Questionnaire to assess Health Care Providers' (HCPs) level of knowledge; tool (2): Standard Infection Control Precautions Observation Checklist developed to observe HCPs compliance with Standard Infection Control Precautions. Results: The study findings were (89.3%) of nurses, (81.3%) of physicians, (85.7%) of technicians, (60.0%) of auxiliaries had high level of knowledge about Standard Precautions (SP) general information.  As for overall compliance with SP, 57.1% of nurses, 60% of auxiliaries complied fairly while 87.5% of physicians and 100% of technicians complied poorly to the overall SP. Positive significant correlations were found between overall compliance with standard infection control precautions and nurses, physicians and technicians’ level of knowledge where p= 0.046, 0.002 and 0.039 respectively. Recommendations: The findings of the study imply that there is a need for conducting a training program for all HCPs on how to apply and comply with Standard Precautions and to Provide sufficient facilities and equipment required for applying standard infection control precautions. Also, to keep written SP guidelines in the hospital and units policies related to standard infection control precautions accessible to all HCPs all the time.

Abstract: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by production of abnormal hemoglobin S, which associated with high morbidity and mortality. The highest prevalence of SCD in Saudi Arabia is in the Eastern province. SCD considered as a chronic disease which may affecting child’s quality of life   on all domains as physical, mental, school function and social well-being. Objectives:  Assess quality of life of sickled children before and after implementation of structured sickle cell anemia health care intervention package. Subjects and Methods: a convenient sample of 30 children having sickle cell anemia their age ranged between 8-12 years were taken from out- patients clinic in AL-khobar City .Tools: An interview questionnaire sheet used to fulfill Child's socio demographic data and Pediatric Quality of life Inventory Version (4) that assessed children quality of life and their parents report about their children quality of life and WhatsApp application to follow up sickled children. Results: median of all dimensions of Quality of life score for sickled children (physical, emotional, social and school function) before implementing health care intervention package were  75.0 (6.3), 64.0 (10.0), 43.0 (10.0) and 72.5 (10.0) comparing to after implementation were 21.9 (6.2), 15.0 (10.0), 26.5 (5.0) and 30.0 (5.0) respectively and this improvement reflecting decrease number of hospitalization from 100% before implementation to  97% after. All sectors and agencies should be collaborating with these children and their families to improve their quality of life.

Abstract:Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths among women worldwide. High breast cancer mortality has been attributed to the lack of public awareness of the disease. Early detection means the discovery of the disease before the occurrence of any symptoms and increases the chance to successful treatment through early diagnosis and screens. The aim of the study: - to assess knowledge, beliefs, and practices of women regarding the screening of breast cancer. Subjects and Method: -Study design: - a descriptive cross-section study design was used. Study settings: - The study was carried out in the outpatient clinics and departments of two big hospitals and three maternal and child health centers at Tanta city which have large  numbers of attending women with  several health problems Study subjects: - The study included a convenience sample of women(1086) who attended the previous mentioned settings during the period from the beginning of December 2016 to the end of March 2017. Tools of data collection: - Structured interview questionnaire sheet was developed by the researchers according to the literature review, it consisted of five parts as follows:- Part 1: Socio-demographic characteristic of the women, Part 2: Reproductive and   medical history of women  and their families, Part 3: Breast cancer screening knowledge, Part 4: Practices related to breast cancer screening, and Part 5: Beliefs related to breast cancer screening. Results:- The result of this study showed that nearly three-quarters (73.5%) of the studied women had poor knowledge and only 7.4% of them have good knowledge. Also, the majority (97.4%) of the studied women had unsatisfactory practices regarding breast cancer screening and more than two-thirds (66.9%) of them had a positive belief regarding breast cancer screening. Conclusion and recommendations: - our survey showed that women had poor knowledge, unsatisfactory practices regarding and positive belief regarding breast cancer screening tests. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the awareness of women about the different methods of breast cancer screening tests.

Abstract:Teaching and learning of clinical skills for undergraduate nursing students usually takes place during the clinical training. Aim of the study: to assess clinical learning environment challenges among nursing students. Method: A descriptive exploratory research design was used to conduct this study on 222 undergraduate nursing students from second to fourth academic years was undertaken. Data were collected through using two tools demographic characteristics sheet and Clinical Learning Evaluation Questionnaire (CLEQ). Results: motivation and supervision parts were the most significant parts of the clinical training. There was positive, moderate, significant correlation between each two items of CELQ. While the total CELQ score was moderately, positive, significant correlate with authenticity and strongly, positive, significant correlate with the scores of cases, supervision, organization and motivations. Conclusion: based on the finding of the present study, there are good supervision and motivation system, while cases, organization and authenticity need some modification and improvement. Recommendation: The study recommended that students needed orientation program before clinical training. Availability of printed logbook or guidelines illustrated simply for guiding student regarding clinical training areas, evaluation and way of communication; and replication of this study on another sitting.

Abstract:Short and long inter-pregnancy intervals have an adverse effect on maternal, fetal, and neonatal outcomes. The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of inter-pregnancy interval on obstetrical and psychological complications among women in the reproductive age. A cross-sectional design was adopted. The current study was conducted on 200 postpartum women divided into two groups short and long IPI. Three instruments were used to collect the data; Structured Interviewing questionnaire, Generalized Anxiety Disorder questionnaire, and (PHQ-9 Depression Scale). The present study findings revealed that, short IPI was a risk factor for anemia, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, and floppy uterus (P<0.0001). Long IPI was associated with pre-eclampsia, PIH, antepartum hemorrhage, and stillbirth (P<0.0001). Moreover, short and long IPI causes anxiety and depression after delivery. The study concluded that short and long IPI is a strong risk factors for obstetrical and psychological complications. The study recommended that awareness programs are needed to raise women’s level of knowledge regarding the adverse impact of short and long inter-pregnancy intervals and achieve the optimal interpregnancy interval by the effective use of family planning programs.

Abstract:Miscommunication has been identified as the leading cause of human errors in intensive care units. Thus preparing nursing students for giving reliable information are important efforts. The aim of the study: this study was aimed assess nurse interns’ performance about shift report exchange. Research design: using a descriptive study. Setting: this study was conducted in all critical units’ affiliated to–Ain Shams University hospitals. Subjects: All available nurse interns who started their internship in year 2017 and their total number were 89. Tools: Data collections were used in this study namely a shift report knowledge questionnaire and observation checklist for nurse interns, performance of shift report. Result: none of nurse interns had satisfactory total knowledge and none of them had adequate performance about shift report exchange. Conclusion: none of the studied interns nurse had satisfactory knowledge and performance about shift report exchange. Recommendations: Develop clinical training and continuing education programs for nurse interns to be acquainted with knowledge and necessary skills related to shift report exchange.

Abstract:Lupus is a chronic disease where health education is an integral part of which is to teach patients how to manage their daily lives. The research aimed to: develop and implement instructional learning package for patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, as well as evaluating their outcomes at the study setting. Method: Quasi-experimental research design has been used to conduct this study. Sample: The purposive sample has been selected in this survey from all available adult patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus from both genders during a period of six months. Tools: Six tools were used in this study for data collection as follows: Tool I:  Patient’s Assessment Structure Interview: This tool contains two parts as follows: Part 1: Demographic characteristics, Part 2: Patient Medical History. Tool II: Lupus Knowledge Questionnaire. Tool III: (Lupus Patient Reported Outcome Tool) LupusPRO. Tool IV: Numeric Pain Rating Scale 0-10.Tool V: Fatigue Severity Score (FSS).Tool VI: Patient's Perception to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Questionnaire. Results: Post implementing instructional learning package; there were high statistical significant differences in patients' knowledge, Lupus patient reported outcome, pain, fatigue and illness perception Conclusion: The learning Instructions package had a considerable consequence on the development of patient's knowledge, health status, pain, fatigue and illness perception post implementation of learning package. Recommendation: setting up patient educating program to enhance SLE patients care by written and illustrated guidelines need to be accessible in all lupus departments and clinics.

Abstract:Radical cystectomy is the primary treatment for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Aims: were to evaluate the effect of implementing designed nursing teaching protocol on nurses knowledge and practices as well as on patients outcome. Setting: The study was conducted at the surgical oncology department at South Egypt Cancer Institute. Sample: A convenience sample including (60) nurses and 60 patients were divided into two groups (30) Patient control & (30) patient study after implementation of the designednursing teaching protocol.Tools: Pre/post-test questionnaire sheet, observational checklist for the nurses, designed nursing teaching protocol, and patient assessment sheet. Results: most of nurses had poor knowledge and practice pre implementing of nursing teaching protocol. Overall total scores of nurse’s knowledge with a mean (5.08±4.94) were improved significantly post implementing of the nursing teaching protocol with a mean (18.95±2.55). Overall total scores of nurse’s practice with a mean (99.13±15.36) were improved significantly after implementing of nursing teaching protocol with a mean (209.7±0.63). The result of studied patients with mean (20.03±4.93) was developed complication of stoma was improved with mean (7.7±4.87) during the study period.  Conclusion: the nursing teaching protocol had statistically significant improvement on nurse’s knowledge, practice, and patient outcome for studied patients. Recommendations: continued nursingeducation and in service training programs in surgical oncology department should be well organized within South Egypt Cancer Institute and equipped with the necessary educational facilities and materials to upgrade the knowledge and skills of nurses.

Abstract:The integrated nursing educational environment remains to have a crucial influence on student achievement, behaviors, satisfaction and success.The aim of the study: To examine the relationship between educational climate and nursing students' achievement. Subject and Methods: Research design:  Descriptive correlational design was used to achieve study objectives. Setting: This study was conducted in five female secondary nursing schools in Dakahlia Governorate.Subject: included all nurse students in different academic years in the five nursing schools (n ˭463).Two tools were used for data collection, namely; Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure and student achievement scale.The results revealed that the highest percentage of the nursing students in all nursing schools perceived the educational climate more positive than negative and slightly less than the half of the nursing students had a very good level of achievement (45.8%). Conclusion: There is no statistically significant relationship between educationalclimate as perceived by nursing students and their achievement levels.  Recommendations: Conduct an orientation program for the teachers in nursing education should consist of a comprehensive overview of the curriculum, evaluation process as well as clinical teaching before they begin teaching. Use of the DREEM as a regular monitoring tool would permit timely interventions to remediate problematic areas, which translates into improved student perceptions of the educational experience.

Abstract:Liver transplantation is often the most effective treatment for chronic, life-threatening liver diseases. Health education of liver transplant clients help in reducing anxiety and post-operative complications, increase their satisfaction and improve their quality of life. Since the booklet is used as health education tool. The aim of this study was to design health education booklet for post liver transplant clients.Methods: To conduct this study the researcher used a cross sectional descriptive study at homes of liver transplant clients through the follow up home visits. One hundred and five of liver transplant clients were systemic randomly selected to participate in the study. Two tools were used in this study; Structure interview to assess health profile, knowledge and daily living activities of liver transplant clients.  Based on this assessment the health education booklet was designed. Results: The majority of studied clients (85.7%) were males, more than half of them (53.3%) were above the age of 50 years, most of the studied clients (98.1%) were married, more than three quarters of them (76.2%) lived at rural areas, 22.9% of the studied clients were university graduate, 60%of them did not work and almost half of the studied clients (48.6%) belonged to low socioeconomic level. The majority of clients (79%) had poor score level of knowledge, and most of them (93.3%) had improper score of daily living activities. Conclusion and recommendation: The study concluded that the majority of the studied clients had poor score level of knowledge related to their daily living activities and improper practice. Health education programs should be applied in liver transplant centers to improve liver transplant clients’ knowledge and practice of daily living activities and subsequently improve their quality of life.

Abstract:controlling asthma severity and exacerbations among patients with asthma is very important.  Adherence to therapy and self-consciousness factors could be responsible for this issue. Suboptimal adherence to asthma therapy is a major contributor to poor asthma outcomes. Self-conscious emotions can also prevent healing from traumatic events. People may delay or avoid medical care if they feel certain self-conscious emotions. Aim of the study: to determine the relationship between medication adherence, self-consciousness, and asthma control and severity among patients with asthma. Design: A descriptive correlational design was utilized. Setting: Outpatient Clinic of Chest Diseases, Main University Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt. Subjects: These comprised 90 patients with asthma attending the pre-mentioned health setting. Tools: Socio demographic characteristics and clinical data structured interview schedule, Modified Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, Assessment of Asthma Control and Severity scale, The Self-consciousness Scale. Results: 37.8% of the studied patients were medium adherents, while one third were low adherents, the majority of the studied patients had not controlled asthma, while the rest had a reasonably controlled asthma, the majority of patients had medium and simple continuous degrees of asthma severity, and they had low levels of self-consciousness as well as low levels of its subscales, there is no statistically significant relationship between degree of asthma severity and level of medication adherence; as well as between level of medication adherence and level of asthma control. There is a statistically significant negative relationship between degree of asthma severity and level of asthma control; as well as between degree of asthma severity and level of self-consciousness among patients with asthma. Conclusion: patients with asthma are medium and low adherents to medication, their asthma is not controlled and they had medium and simple degrees of asthma severity. Regardless of their illness, they had low levels of self-consciousness; as well as its subscales. High levels of asthma control and self-consciousness result in decrease severity of asthma. Patients having an increase in self-consciousness have increase degrees of medication adherence as well as asthma control. Recommendations: Developing educational programs to promote medication adherence and self-management among patients with asthma, developing psycho-educational intervention programs that scope and address self-conscious emotions and investigate their effects on medication adherence among patients with asthma in Egypt, nurses and other health care professionals should make great emphasis on psychological, as well as physical aspects of patients with asthma as important factors that enhance medication adherence.

Abstract:Children diagnosed with and on treatment for leukemia face multiple health-related problems and explicit needs that call for complex and individualized care. This complication within the oncology pediatric setting requires a multidisciplinary collaboration for the comprehensive support of the children and their family study aimed to draw a comparison between the effects of three therapeutic modalities (honey, honey plus coffee and olive) on children suffering from oral mucositis. Research Design: Randomized Control Trial with three blinding method design was used to accomplish this study. Setting: The study was conducted at the oncology department of the Pediatric Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University in Cairo. Subjects: A convenience sampling of 60 children was engaged in the study. Children were assigned into three groups (Group I: received mucositis care by honey, Group II: received mucositis care by honey plus coffee and Group III: received mucositis care by olive oil) based on using a simple random sample approach. Tools: Four tools were used. The tools: Children characteristics and mothers characteristics, Tool II: The Pre/Post Oral Mucositis Reporting of symptoms (PROMS) scale. Tool III: The World Health Organization (WHO) Oral Mucositis Grading Scale. Tool IV: Children international mucositis evaluation scale ChIMES Results. Post-intervention after two the week, there was highly significant difference pre/post-intervention of three modalities on the different grade of mucositis improvement, transported the better progress in children condition and subside in all complaints. It was surprising that all children (100.0%) who established honey plus coffee presented earliest recovered completely before the other groups at week three. The majority of them (90.0%, 100.0%, and 85.0%) respectively shifted to grade 1 and honey plus coffee group was the best one. All children (100.0%) completely recovered in the fourth week. Conclusion The present study highlight and has provided further support for the significant correlation between the three types of treatment modalities as well as the evidence of the positive effect of a combined effect of honey and coffee in earlier alleviation of the severity of mucositis. The beneficial properties of honey alone are manifested clearly than olive oil in the field of oral ulcers care. Recommendations Increase public awareness on how to achieve and preserve good oral health, what facilities they can practically expect, and what tasks they have in return.
Further well-designed studies in this life-threatening area are highly needed can be applied to numbers of children and in different settings to have generality.

Abstract: Recurrent admission to critical care units by older patients, increased complexity of illness presentations and longer hospital stay necessitate enrolling of highly competent professional nurses. So, of great important is to spotlight on attitudes of nursing staff, those who provide the greatest and direct amount of care for geriatric patients. Since, individuals' attitudes may impact the nurses' performance of caring procedures for those growing and vulnerable older patients. Thus, the aim of the study was to assess critical care nurses’ attitudes toward ageism and its relation to their perception of geriatric patients' advocacy behaviors. Methods: A descriptive correlational research design was used in this study. The study was conducted in ten intensive care units (ICUs) at the Main University Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt. A convenience sample of three hundred and thirty nurses was enrolled in the study. Three tools were used to collect data; Socio-demographic and work-related data questionnaire, the ageism attitude scale (AAS), the quantitative Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale (PNAS). Results: Nearly two thirds (62.4%) of the studied nurses have positive attitude toward ageism and nearly one half (48.8%) of them have moderate perception of geriatric patient advocacy behaviors. Also, a statistically significant relation was detected between nurses’ attitudes toward ageism and nurses' perception of geriatric patient advocacy behaviors. Significant relations were between nurses' qualification and training in geriatric and both attitude toward ageism and advocacy behaviors. No significant differences were identified between age and sex of the nurses and both attitude toward ageism and advocacy behaviors. Conclusion: Critical care Nurses' perception of geriatric patient advocacy behaviors is strongly related to their attitudes toward ageism. Recommendation: Design, implement, and evaluate suitable interventions and continuing education programs by gerontological nurse for nurses caring for older adults, especially in the acute care settings in order to enforce positive attitudes towards older adults and improve behaviors by increasing their knowledge about this fast-growing population.

Abstract:to explore the effect of negotiation on collaboration between nurses and physicians. Background: negotiation skills applied successfully for conflict specially, among many other problems and to build collaboration between nurses and physicians.  Method: the current study was carried out in a descriptive comparative study design. The study subjects 190 nurse and physician conducted in the south valley university hospital, Egypt. Tool of data collection consists of two parts; 1) negotiation style of conflict resolution sheet, and 2) Jef­ferson scale of attitude toward physician-nurse collaborative relationships. Results: a strong significant positive correlation between negotiation score and overall attitude for both nurses and physicians (.485^**,^.531^**)respectively. A negative correlation between negotiation scores and physician's authority subscale for both nurses and physicians (-.164^*-, -.057) respectively. Conclusion: negotiation have a positive effect on collaboration between nurses and physicians, except with high level of physician’s authority domination. Managers whenever adopted negotiation skills application in field of work can be a solution for many problems that face health care workers today. Implications for nursing management: a well prepared training programs and workshops for both nurses and physicians about skills of negotiation and its benefits. Also about importance of collaboration for both nurses and physicians.

Abstract:Defibrillators are life-saving and their early use improves survival of patients presenting with sudden cardiac arrest due to shockable rhythms if they are used safely and correctly. The Aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of educational program of nurses' onpatients' outcomes. Method A quasi-experimental research design Setting,the present study conducted in coronary care unit at Assiut University Heart Hospital. The sample the study included 30 Patients’ before implementation of the education program and 30 Patients’ after implementation of the education program.Tools: Three tools were utilized to collect data pertinent to the study, Tool l: Assessment of patients undergoing defibrillation and cardiovertion. Tool II: Characteristics of direct current (DC) electric shock for patients. Tool III: Assessment of expected complication for critically ill patients’ undergoing defibrillation and cardiovertion . Result, Finding of the present study revealed that a significant statistical difference was existed between both groups after educational program in relation to types of rhythm, joule used restoring sinus rhythm, number of electric shock. There were insignificant difference observed between two group regarding skin burn after direct current DC electric shockreached to the maximum improvement before discharge .Conclusion: improvement with significant differences in patient study group in overall main domains related to improve  nurses' practice after educational program. The study recommended nursing care standard for management of patient undergoing defibrillation and cardiovertion should be revised, updated and available in cardiac care unite in both Arabic and English language.

Abstract:This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention based on health promotion model on improving physical activity among post - menopausal women with osteoporosis. Research design: An intervention study design was used (time series). Setting: this study conducted at women’s health center in Nasser institute hospital in Egypt. Subjects: simple random sampling technique was used to recruit 50 post- menopausal women diagnosed with osteoporosis. Tools of data collection: three tools were used for data collection; an interviewing questionnaire sheet, Osteoporosis Knowledge Test, and global physical activity questionnaire. Results: There was a statistical significant improvement on total level of knowledge and physical activity regarding osteoporosis after intervention and at follow up (p= 0.001). Conclusion: The findings of the current study supported the hypothesis of this study which stated that application of nursing intervention based on health promotion model had positive effect on improving physical activity among post-menopausal women with osteoporosis. Recommendation: based on the finding of the current study the following recommendation is suggested application of nursing intervention based on health promotion model for improving physical activity amonge post-menopausal women to prevent osteoporosis complication.

Abstract:Today, it has been increasingly recognized that job crafting is an important employeeproactive organizational behavior which leads to various valuable outcomes for both organizations and employees. The favorable outcome of job crafting results in increasing job resources and reducing the harmful influence of job demands. Thus, job crafting helps employees to adjust the work to achieve career competencies and better attain work goals. Career competencies contain skills, knowledge and attitudes required to successfully perform a job. Therefore, health care organizations should encourage nurses to craft their jobs to be initiative, attain career competencies and take responsibility for their own development of achievement behaviors at work, as well as to perform at high levels. The aim of the present study was to examine the relation of nurses’ job crafting with their job demands, job resources, and career competencies at Mansoura University Emergency Hospital. A descriptive design was utilized. Sample of the study consisted of all nurses working at Mansoura University Emergency Hospital (n=143 nurses). Four tools were utilized for data collection, namely; Job Crafting Scale (JCS), Job Demands Scale (JDS) Job Resources Scale (JRS) and Career Competencies Questionnaire (CCQ). Major findings of the present study were statistically significant positive correlation between nurses' job crafting and their job resources. Also, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between job crafting and career competencies. But there was no statistically significant correlation between job crafting and total job demands. It was concluded that job crafting dimensions have important roles for both nurses and organizations. It leads to increasing the level of job resources and career competencies continuously which help nurses to achieve both individual and work-related goals. It was recommended that allowing nurses to participate in new developments in their work, provide nurses with job crafting training programs, enhance effective communication on the superior-subordinate level, and provide nurses with opportunities to craft their jobs by giving them enough autonomy.

Abstract:Nurses are the largest group of healthcare delivery system and they play an integral role in any healthcare organizationManager’s leadership styles and decision-making process are very crucial in change management process. Thecreation and designof change processes within an organization is frequently a role of the leaders inside it. Managers and supervisors assume a key role because of the relationship they have with workers inside the organization. Furthermore, there is strong evidence that the manager of the unit may impact the speed and effectiveness with which new processes can be implemented. Aim of the study: Identify the decision-making styles of head nurses in all medical and surgical units at Damanhour Hospital, Identify the staff nurses’ attitude toward organizational change in all medical and surgical units at Damanhour Hospital, and assess the relationship between decision-making styles of head nurses and staff nurses’ attitude toward organizational change. ResearchDesign: The researcher used a cross sectional descriptive design to conduct this study. Setting:  The study was conducted in all medical and surgical units and ICU at Damanhour National Medical Institute.The accounts 40 units with 533 beds. Subjects: All head nurses worked in medical and surgical units at Damanhour National Medical Institute toassess their decision-making styles. They accounted 60 head nurses included in the study, A convenient sample of staff nurses, whowork withthe selected head nurses in the previously mentioned units and available at the time of data collection was included in the study, to assess their attitude toward organizational change. They were 140 nurses. Selected Tool: General Decision-Making Style Inventory (GDMS), and Organizational Change Questionnaire.Results: Higher mean score of rationaldecision making was noticed among head nurses of those nurses with positive attitude toward change(21.13±1.552). While, higher mean scores of intuitive, dependent avoidant and spontaneous styles decision-making styles were found among head nurses of those nurses with negative attitude toward change(15.47±3.091, 16.80±2.808, 11.32±2.861, and 13.40±3.218 respectively). Conclusion: The majority of the staff nurses had negative attitude towards organizational change especially older, nurses and those with lesser educational qualifications and those with higher years of experience.Furthermore,rational decision making was more encountered among head nurses whose staff nurses had positive attitude toward change, while the intuitive, dependent, avoidant, and spontaneous style were prevalent among those head nurses of those with negative attitude toward change. Based on the results of the study the following recommendations are suggested: Recommendation: Enhance the head nurses and head nurses skills and decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking through continuous training, and assessmentofnurses’readinesstowardorganizational change is crucial before initiation of organizational change.

Abstract:Children around the world are routinely engaged in paid and unpaid forms of work that may be harmful to themAim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of the occupational health program for hazards prevention among child labor in delinquency care agency. Design: A quasi-experimental design was used. Sample: a Convenience sample of 92 juvenile delinquents, all are males, whose ages ranged from 14 to 18 years. Setting: at juvenile delinquents youth institution for social care at Ain Shams, Cairo, Egypt. Tools: First tool: An interviewing questionnaire was used to assess socio-demographic data of the child labor, family and health history, their knowledge and practices related; safe working environment the occupational hazards of the workplace, PPE and first aid measures. Second tool: Modified Observational Checklist Sheet of OHSAS for assessing the workplace environment. Results: results of this study indicated that, the majority of juvenile delinquents were aged less than ≤16 years old, residing in urban and Slum areas and left their schools before admission; they suffered many common health problems related to occupational hazards. Mostly of child labors had satisfactory level of knowledge and practices regarding to working environment, PPE, occupational hazards and dealing with injuries and first aid at workplace after implementing the program with statistically significant differences with (P<0.05). Conclusion: the occupational health program had improved the child labor knowledge and practices regarding safety measures and first aid with statistically significant improvement before and after implementation of the occupational health program. Recommendations: So, it is important to develop successful policies to prevent occupational injuries and promote safer work practices for young workers.

Abstract:Breast cancer is considered a major health problem among a large number of females world-wide. Breast self-examination is one of the effective methods for the early detection and control of breast cancer. Education plays an essential role in increasing breast self-examination practice. Regarding this, the present study conducted to measure knowledge and attitude of female university students about breast self-examination. Aim: this study aimed to determine the effect of using breast self-examination training based video on undergraduate university students’ knowledge and attitude. Methodology: One group Pre-test-Post-test research design was adapted. 63 students were selected through convenient sampling technique from different colleges in Kingdom Saudi Arabia. Research data were collected utilizing the breast self-examination questionnaire and students’ evaluation about training video. Results: It was found that students' knowledge scores in the post-test was higher than the pre-test (P <0.001). Most of the students (95.2%) agreed that the breast self-examination video was very effective educational tool. Conclusion: this study shows that training video improves students’ knowledge and attitude regarding breast self-examination. It is also considered as a potent learning tool for students because it is available any time for reviewing the steps and includes comprehensive information. In addition, breast self-examination training video should be adopted by health educators in delivering health-related information to the individuals.

Abstract:An important part of treatment of bronchial asthma is the control of the disease and assessment of patients’ needs. Poor prognosis of asthma is contributed by patients’ inadequate education and poor adherence to prescribed medications. So, asthma education is therefore considered by current structured self-learning package to be an important part in management of bronchial asthma Aim: the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of structured self-learning package for bronchial asthma patients to control the acute exacerbation of asthma. Design: A quasi- experimental research design was used. Setting: The study was conducted at both in- and out- patient pediatric and adult medical departments in Sayed Galal Hospital affiliated to El-Azhar University and Helwan General Hospital. Sample: A purposive sample of 120 adolescent and early adulthood patients with asthmatic. Tools: Tool I: A structured designedinterviewing questionnaire which covers three parts: a)-Demographic characteristics of studied sample.b) Medical and family history of disease. c) Knowledge of studied sample about bronchial asthma.  Tool II: An observation checklist which covers four parts: a) Observation checklist for using Nebulizers b) Observation checklist for using Metered-dose inhalers. c) Observation checklist for breathing and coughing exercises and d) Monitoring lung function. Results: The study sample had poor knowledge score (56.7%) about asthma at pre structured self-learning package which improved to be 67.5% having good knowledge at post self-learning package intervention, also this study showed improvement in all practice items post intervention of structured self-learning package.Conclusion: Self learning package had improved knowledge, practices, and compliance as well as controlled the exacerbation of asthma and improved patient follow up. Recommendations: Developing materials and/or a training program for patients with bronchial asthma to improve knowledge and practices about asthma and also increase compliance with the treatment and further research study is needed to examine the self-management behavior of bronchial asthma over time, as well as during various stages of development.

Abstract:As a result of the continuous increase in the number of patients admitted to the emergency department and lack of medical facilities, it is necessary to enhance patients’ triage to provide a high quality of care.Aim: This study aimed to assess the relationship between the nurse's knowledge, practice, and accuracy of the patient's triage acuity level in the emergency department. Method: A descriptive correlational study design was used in the present study. This study was conducted in the emergency department at Al-Menshawy General Hospitals, Tanta, Egypt. Subjects included all nurses (46) working in the emergency department and all patients (138) admitted to the emergency department during the period of study. Three tools were utilized for data collection; nurses' Structured Interview, an observational checklist regarding triage nurses' practice and patients’ assessment sheet. Results: The results of the present study illustrate that the majority of nurses had poor total knowledge mean scores. All nurses had unsatisfactory total practice mean scores. It was observed that more than two thirds of triage nurse to rank the patients as under-triage (17.40%) and over-triage category (56.50% and 50.0%) during the  first and second observations respectively and more than half of them sort the patients as under-triage (32.60%) and over-triage category (26.10%) during the third observation. Conclusion: Nurses’ poor knowledge and unsatisfactory practice total mean scores increase the emergency patients risk for triage acuity level errors which lead to serious patient problems. The majority of these errors were over-triage rather than the under-triage category level. It can be recommended that, the triage nurses should receive continuing education and demonstrate knowledge application into practice to rank the patient's triage acuity level successfully. Also, The hospital leadership should increase the number of highly qualified nurses in the emergency department because it was noticed that the total knowledge and practice mean scores increased with high qualifications.

Abstract:The transition from a nursing student to a graduate remains problematic internationally with issues arising concerning graduates' work-readiness and professional competency. Professional competencies refer to skills that develop through distinct experiences, trainings, and/or education an individual has obtained. Moreover, The Career Preparation Program (CPP) is the program which prepared the nursing intern entering the job market newly The aim of the study was: to determine the effect of nursing interns' career preparation educational workshops on their professional competencies and career development readiness setting: The study was carried out at National Medical Institute; Damanhour General Hospital and the Chest Hospital in Damanhour affiliated to Damanhour University Egypt. Subjects: All nurses' interns, who had finished their fourth academic year 2017-2018, were included (N = 350). Tools: The Knowledge regarding Career preparation program, Modified version of quality and safety education for nurses (QSEN), The Professional Competencies, & A Career Development readiness. Results: the study revealed a highly significant differences between scores of students’ knowledge on professional competencies & career development pre and post educational workshop. There was highly positive correlation between professional competency, total knowledge and Career Development Readiness. Conclusion: The finding of this study can be concluded that there was significant improvement at professional competency and development career readiness level after educational workshop. Recommendations: Preparation of educational program for nurses’ interns about professional competency, Implement competency-based training programs for nursing interns career developmental readiness and Further researchers, about nurses' competency and readiness level with increasing sample size and different settings.

Abstract:Background: Evidence-based practice (EBP) has gained prominence across healthcare system. Primary healthcare is an important pillar for the universal coverage. Implementing EBP is theorized to benefit primary healthcare systems, healthcare consumers and healthcare professionals including nurses. Using of a framework might be beneficial to inform the processes for embedding the culture of EBP. Aim: The study aimed at designing a framework that support embedding of EBP approach at primary healthcare centers. Research Design: Qualitative “action research” study design was utilized throughout this study. Setting: This study was carried out at the primary healthcare centers- Mansoura district, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt during the period from September 2018 until May 2019. Subjects and Sampling: Convenience purposive sampling technique was used to recruit the study participants who were composed of 55 participants (29 healthcare professionals, 14 policymakers and 12 EBP experts). Data Collection: A structured self-administered questionnaire and semi-structured interview was used to collect data and different open-ended questions were used to achieve the aim of this study. Results: Many of the primary healthcare professionals viewed EBP as a beneficial approach. They stated that the educational intervention is the essential for applying new approaches. The majority of policymakers (n= 10) indicated that to active the goal of implementing EBP thy need supportive leadership and financial supply to fulfill the infrastructure requirements. Moreover, they mentioned that providing training is an essential requirement to capacity building for applying EBP approach. They stated that collaboration with the academic institutions is mandatory for effective training on EBP. As well, the EBP experts' views revealed that acquiring urgency needs for EBP, building a team, provision of the resources, pilot application, stating policies and regulations are the supportive strategies for applying EBP. Conclusion and Recommendations: The primary healthcare professionals and policy makers showed a positive beliefs about the important and benefits of EBP approach. They found EBP mandatory competency for each healthcare professional at any discipline and is a backbone for professional development. This designed framework for embedding EBP in primary healthcare centers and gave a valuable tool on the planning for application of EBP approach combined with evaluation elements. The study recommended dissemination of the designed framework to authorized health agency and testing its feasibility at one primary healthcare center.

Abstract:Chronic low back pain in older adults is more impeding and is linked to substandard prognoses. It has been joined with several devastating effects, including decreased physical function and increased disability, likelihood of falls, and mood disturbance. Despite its deleterious influences spread beyond the patients, and inflict severe economic load on caregivers and society, few researches are dedicated for older persons.
Objective: To examine the relationship between chronic low back pain and functional ability of community dwelling older adults
Methodology:the study followed adescriptive correlational research design. One hundred and ten community residing older adults with chronic low back pain were enrolled from two outpatient clinics of the physical medicine, rheumatology and rehabilitation department. Three tools were used to assemble the data;socio-demographic and clinical data structured interview schedule of community dwelling older adults with chronic low back pain,Visual Analogue Scale, and the Japanese Orthopedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire.  
Results:the study subjects demonstrated lower functional ability scores across all domains of functional ability, several factors affect chronic low back pain intensity as obesity, number of co-morbidities, smoking, and practice of exercise. Likewise, smoking and the number of co-morbidities affect significantly all domains of functional ability. Moreover, there is a significant relationship between chronic low back pain and functional ability in community dwelling older adults.
Conclusion and recommendations:back pain intensity is strongly associated with functional ability of community dwelling older adults with chronic low back pain. The study findings suggest that, designed educational programs should be tailored for elders to enforce positive health habits to achieve the most favorable level of independence for them.

Abstract:Bullying is growing problem among children particularly school children. It affects children development and well being. self-esteem is an important is highly affected area by bullying and affect on bullying management. Aim of the study: to explore the effect of bullying management educational intervention on children self-esteem and bullying attitude.Methods: Quaqsi-experimental pre-post test design was conducted on preparatory school children(study group) and compared to the control group at at Khaled Ibn Elwaleed preparatory school- Elagezy region at Tanta city. Data was collected using structured interview questionnaire, bullying management program was developed and implemented by the researcher, the study was conducted from October 2018 to February 2019.Results: the results have shown that the majority of studied children self-esteem improved post program compared to preprogram (86% post program &42%preprogram). There was significant change at (P=0.002).Regarding children attitude towards bullying there was significant reduction in the positive attitude toward bullying from ( 62%) preprogram to (12%) post program. Regarding the correlation between self-esteem and bullying attitude, it was found that there was significant statistical negative correlation between self-esteem and bullying attitude.
Conclusion:the study group who engaged in bullying management program have improved self-esteem and they developed more negative attitude towards bullying.
Recommendations:further studies are needed in this area with a large sample size.

Abstract:Worldwide, there was great attention on the indiscriminate application and misuse of physical restraint (PR) usage. This was the incentive for health care organizations across the countries to relook at the policy and practices concerning restraints in an effort to declare protection of the patients' safety and health while maintaining their dignity, well-being, and rights. However, there were no available protocols or policies concerning PR use in the selected ICUs. Hence it is worthwhile to understand the nurses’ knowledge and practice of PR use in local context. Material and Methods: a quasi-experimental research design was used on sixty nurses in ICUs at Mansoura Emergency hospital. Two tools were used for data collection: knowledge questionnaire, and observation checklist. The protocol was designed based on the recent related literature. Results revealed marked deficiencies in nurses’ knowledge and practices before the protocol; with significant improvements at the post and follow-up protocol implementation. Conclusion: Nursing knowledge and practice about PR in the studied setting was somewhat acceptable that be reflected in improving the quality of care delivered to the patients, and decreasing complications of malpractice regarding PR

Abstract:Sleep hygiene is focused on the development of sleep routines that are focused on promoting habits, patterns, behaviors, and environmental factors. This study aimed to assess effect of sleep hygiene teaching on quality of sleep among hemodialysis patients.Research design: This study is a quazi experimental (pre –post- test) research design.Sample: sixty adult patients undergoing regular hemodialysis, their age range between (18- 65) from both sexes and are willing to participate in the study.Setting: The study was conducted in Hemodialysis Unit at Assiut University Hospital. Tools: two tools were used: Interview structured questionnaire sheet and Sleep Quality Scale. Results: There were a statistical significant difference between total scores of sleep quality pre and post-test (after one month, two and after three months) after implementing sleep hygiene teaching (P=0.001).Conclusion: sleep hygiene teaching protocol were effective in improving quality of sleep for hemodialysis patients. Recommendation: In-service training programs related to sleep hygiene teaching for hemodialysis patients must be frequently conducted in the unit to continuously maintain and improve sleep quality.

Abstract:A port-A-catheter is an implanted device which allows easy access to a patient’s veins. A port-A-catheter is surgically inserted completely under the skin and consists of two parts – the portal and the catheter. Using of an implanted port brings risks associated with a minor surgical procedure and vascular access. Potential complications include internal bleeding, collapsed lung, fluid buildup around the lungs, nerve damage, blood clot formation, and accidental cutting or puncturing of blood vessels. Aims: To evaluate the effect of educational guidelines on nurses' performance regarding prevention of port-A- catheter complications among patients undergoing chemotherapy Subjects and Methods: Design: A quasi experimental design was used. Setting: oncology department at the Alexandria Main university hospital, Egypt. Sample:  A convenience sample of 30 nurses and purposive samples of 60 patients Undergoing Chemotherapy (30 patients were selected as control group pre- educational guidelines and 30 patients were selected as study group post- educational guidelines).Tools for data collection: An interview structured Questionnaire, observational checklists for nurses caring for patient with port-A-catheter and Patient assessment Questionnaire. Results: There was a statistically significance differences between pre & post educational guidelines regarding knowledge and practice of the studied nurses regarding care for patient with port-A-catheter. Patients study group who received the port-A- catheter care post educational guidelines had less complications as compared with patients control group who received the port-A- catheter care pre educational guidelines, but this decrease was not statistically significant difference. Conclusions: The educational guidelines were helpful on the improvement of the nurses' knowledge and practices for prevention of port-A-catheter related complications among patients Undergoing Chemotherapy. Recommendations: Periodic educational programs regarding port-A-catheter care for nurses caring for patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Abstract:Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a serious illness leads to increase mortality among old adults every year. Breathing exercises aim to reduce dyspnea. In stable patients, diaphragmatic breathing with pursed lips can improve the oxygenation, reduce breathing frequency and dyspnea. Aim of the study: was to examine the effect of combining diaphragmatic and pursed lips breathing exercises on the clinical outcomes of elderly patients with COPD. Subjects & Method: Design: A quasi-experimental design with pre and posttest was adopted. Setting: The study was carried out at the inpatient units and outpatient clinics of the chest hospital in Al-Mahalla, El-Gharbiya Governorate, Egypt. Subjects: A total of 105 elderly patients. Tools: Three tools were used to collect the data included the structured interview questionnaire, COPD Assessment Test, and Dyspnea-12 scale. Results: The mean age of the participants was 68.3 ± 7.2 years old. One third of them were farmers and 45% were workers who were exposed to respiratory occupational hazards and had low income (51.4%). The reported risk factors for the disease were the exposure to gases and chemicals during work (45%), cigarette smoking (36.2%), illiteracy (32.4%), living in poor ventilated houses (22.9%), history of lung infections during childhood (24.8 %), coal heating (15.2%), and family history (15.2%). There was a statistically significant difference between the pre and posttest regarding the patient's dyspnea scale score, respiratory rate, SaO2, CAT scale score, and pulse (P < 0.001*). Conclusion: The elderly who practiced the diaphragmatic plus pursed lips breathing exercise had better clinical outcomes than the pretest. They had a reduction in respiratory rate, dyspnea and CAT score, pulse, and increased SaO2 during the posttest. Recommendations: The diaphragmatic plus pursed lips breathing exercise should be integrated within the plan of care and the patients should incorporate this breathing exercise into their lifestyle to reduce their exacerbations and hospital readmission.

Abstract:Background: negotiation skills are inevitable for nurse’s manager; if you want to become a good manager, become a good negotiator.
Aims: To assess role of first line nurse manager as negotiator as perceived by nurses.
Design: a descriptive study design was used, on 144 nurses, at Assiut University Hospitals. Socio demographic characteristics data sheet was uses beside a developed negotiation questionnaire.
Results: (59.9%) of studied nurses perceived first line nurse manager a very good negotiator. Most of the studied nurses 51.70 (80.8%) confirmed that during negotiation phase is the best one. There are a significant positive relation of negotiation with age, work setting, and experience of studied nurses (0.015*, 0.034*, and 0.046*) respectively.
Conclusion: staff nurses perceive first line nurse manager as a very good negotiator, and negotiation phase is the best one than other two phases. Recommendations: We recommended advanced research related to negotiation role of first line nurse manager from another prospective in different workplaces, and in different cultures.

Abstract:Pain and delayed initiation of breast feeding are the most common problems after cesarean section. The use of sedative is the most common strategy for alleviating the pain. It impairs women's abilities to remain awake and alert during the critical transition to parenting in general and to bond with, breast feed and nurture their new born in particular. Furthermore, the adverse effects of these drugs and lack of access to them for some patients, has led to an increase in application of non-drug methods such as massage. Massage is one of the used non-pharmacological therapies in pain practice but its effect on post-cesarean pain and initiation of breast feeding still under investigated in obstetric nursing practice. Therefore the aim of this study was to determine the effect of hand and foot massage on post-cesarean pain intensity and initiation of breast feeding. To fulfill the study aim a non randomized controlled clinical trial research design was used. Setting: This study was conducted at the post cesarean section ward of Damanhour general hospital in Elbehera Governorate. Subjects: Convenience sample of 80 post cesarean section women were recruited according to inclusion criteria. They were equally assigned to one of two groups: a control (40) and experimental group (40). Tools of the study: five tools were used for data collection. Socio-demographic & clinical profile structured interview schedules, Visual analogue scale (VAS), a modified version of Chamber Price pain rating scale (CPPRS), Johansson Pain-0- Meter Scale (JPOM) and newborn breastfeeding Assessment tool (NBFAT).Result: the study results reveals that the post-cesarean pain intensity was significantly decreased by  using Visual analogue scale (VAS),Behavioral pain response as measured by a modified version of Chamber Price Pain Scale (CPPRS)and modified version of Johansson Pain- O Mater Scale (JPOM) i.e. affective and sensory pain responses (as reflected by Pain – rating Index rank).Also the intensity of pain was negatively correlated with the success of breast feeding and evaluation of the breast feeding pick up. Conclusion: foot and hand massage can be a cost effective, safe, new and independent nursing intervention that can be used to decrease post-cesarean pain intensity and increase early initiation of breast feeding. This can improve the quality of women’s post-cesarean experience. Thus, it can be encouraged as a beneficial non-medical approach in obstetric practice.

Abstract:Clinical assessment is a crucial part of nursing training . It helps for assessing nursing students, ensure competencies that is acts on the delivery of quality nursing care. Two commonly approved strategies to guide the formulation of valid and reliable assessment method for assessing variety of learning domains in clinical nursing education programs have been proposed namely Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and Clinical Practical Examination (CPE) in nursing education programs. The aim of this study is to assess students’ perception of objective structured clinical evaluation (OSCE) versus clinical practical evaluation (CPE) and their achievement.
This helps to determine best preferred method for clinical assessment among nursing students.
Design: The study utilized one-group quasi experimental design. OSCE and CPE which is experimental are both forms of practical examination for assessing nursing students in this study. All third-year students who are registered and attended the psychiatric nursing course clinical training program during the Academic year 2015- 2016 were participated in the study. A total of 88 students were involved in the study. These students were assessed by both OSCE and CPE using a developed structured questionnaire after completing a 16-week clinical training in psychiatric & mental health nursing course.
Results: OSCE was perceived in a much positive way in term of quality of performance as compared to CPE, Yet , no significant difference existed between the mean scores of the two practical examinations in term of exam structure, organization and instructions. OSCE was perceived to be more helpful, excited, more objective, demands more preparation than CPE. During OSCE, students were more aware of the nature of the exam and the level of information needed than during the CPE. Moreover OSCE was perceived to be less stressful, intimidating, threatening, destabilizing, and less time consuming as compared to CPE. Furthermore students were more generally satisfied and recommended OSCE more than CPE as students ’ final scores obtained from OSCE were higher than they obtained from CPE.
Conclusion: OSCE method of practical examination is more effective in assessing nursing students’ clinical competency and perceived to be more effective than CPE. It is recommended to use OSCE as an effective method of practical examination for psychiatric nursing training programs.

Abstract:Preeclampsia or eclampsia is an unpredictable multi organ disorder, unique to human pregnancy. It is associated with significant maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. World-wide treatment of this disorder remains a challenge. Pregnant women with severe preeclampsia need continuous care for safe confinement, early detection of difficulties and prompt treatment in an appropriate period. Nurses play a vital role in providing safety practices in the management of patients with severe preeclampsia. Aim of the study: To assess Nurses’Compliance with Safety Practices on intensive care unit among women with Severe Preeclampsia. Design: A descriptive exploratory research design was carried out in the present study started by the beginning of July 2018 and continued until the end of September 2018. Setting:  The study was carried out at the intensive care unit and eclampsia unit of El-Shatby Maternity University hospital in Alexandria and the intensive care unit of Damanhur Medical National Institute in Damanhur.Subjects:The study compromised all nurses working in the previously mentioned settings 60 nurses distributed as thirty eight nurses from El-Shatby and the remaining twenty two were from Damanhur.SelectedTool: Two tools were used for data collections, Nurses' knowledge about preeclampsia and safety practices in caring of pregnant women with severe preeclampsia questionnaire:  observational checklist.Results:Less than one-half (45%) of nurses were working as supervisors with bachelors, while slightly more than one-third (36.67%) of them had less than 5 years of experience in nursing. Years of experience displayed that less than three-quarters (73.33%) of nurses had less than 5 years experience in ICU and eclampsia unit.None of nurses had any training programs about preeclampsia or safety practices in caring of pregnant women with severe preeclampsiathat less than three quarters (71%) of them had fair knowledge about preeclampsia compared to17% had weak knowledge while 12% had good general knowledge about preeclampsia. that less than three quarters (71.67%) of them were fairly complaint with safety practices. On the other hand, less than one quarter (23.33%) of them were complaint with safety practices and 5% of them were not complaint. Conclusion: Only less than one quarter of the nurses were compliant with safety practices in caring of pregnant women with severe preeclampsia.

Abstract:Death anxiety is a concept used to indicate concern about death awareness. The loss of purpose in life can lead to an existential vacuum that can lead to death anxiety.Aim: to determine relationship between purpose in life and death anxiety among elderlyhome residents.Design: A descriptive correlational research design was used. Subjects:  66 out of 99 elderly persons residents in governmental elderly home in Dakahlia governorate, in Tanta city and in Ras El-Bar city were included in the study. Tools: Mini Mental State Examination, Purpose in Life test, Death anxiety scale, Socio-demographic & clinical data structured interview schedule were used to collect the data. Results: Sixty percent of the elderly home residents had a definite purpose in life and 72.7% had low death anxiety. Also there was negative significant correlation between purpose in life and death anxiety among residents of elderly homes r = -0.48. Conclusion: purpose in life was inversely correlated with death anxiety among elderlyhome residents. Recommendations: Encouraging elderly people to participate in social activity that foster purpose in life.

Abstract:internalized stigma can result in negative feelings about self, maladapted behavior, identity transformation or stereotype endorsement and it can cause significant obstruction to psychological well-being and impairs the attitude toward recovery. The aim of this study: was toexamine the relationship between internalized stigma and recovery attitude among mentally ill patients. Design: Descriptive correlational design was utilized in this study. Setting: the study held at the Outpatient Clinics of “Psychiatric Medicine and Addiction Prevention Hospital - Cairo University Hospitals". Sample: A convenient sample of 250 patients with mental illness recruited for this study according to G power analysis. Tools for data collection were: Socio-demographic and clinical data sheet, Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness inventory (ISMI) and Recovery Attitudes Questionnaire (RAQ). Results: Regarding relationship among domains of internalized stigma subscales with recovery attitude, there were no significant statistical correlation between alienation, stereotype endorsement, discrimination experience and social withdrawal subscales with recovery attitude. On the other hand there was a significant statistical weak negative correlation between recovery attitude and stigma resistance subscale. In addition, the study results found that more than one third of the participants had moderate level of internalized stigma and the majority of the participants had positive attitude toward recovery from mental illness. Conclusion: The current study concluded that age, gender, marital status and occupation had no significant statistical difference with internalized stigma and recovery attitude but participants’ diagnosis had significant statistical difference with recovery attitude. Moreover education level, duration of illness and number of hospital admissions had significant statistical difference with internalized stigma. The study also revealed that, those patients with psychiatric illness had positive attitude toward recovery from mental illness despite expressing moderate levels of perceived self-stigma. Recommendations: Longitudinal design is needed and necessary clinical implications concerning creating and refining interventions that address internalized stigma.

Abstract:Sleep disruption is common in patients admitted to the ICU. Patients treated in the ICU are also exposed to high sound levels and cite noise as a substantial contributor to sleep disruption Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to assess effect of earplugs and eye mask on improving quality of sleep in ICU this aim was assessed through the following:1- Assess patient level of sleep disturbance. 2-Apply earplugs and eye masks to the patients in ICU. 3-Evaluate effect of earplugs and eye masks on improving patient's quality of sleep in ICU. Study design:a quasi-experimental study was utilized in this study. Setting: The study was conducted in the ICU unit at EL Demerdash hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample of 35 adult patients from the previous mentioned setting.  Data collection: data were collected by two tools as follows: Patients Interview questionnaire and Richards-Campbell sleep questionnaire. Results: there were statistically significant differences regarding improving patients' quality of sleep post implementation of earplugs and eye masks in ICU. The study concluded that: There was a statistical significant difference for the study group in relation to factors disrupts sleep, quality of sleep post implementation of earplugs and eye masks in ICU. The study recommended that: Educational program for nurses to improve their knowledge regarding importance of introducing earplugs and eye masks for ICU patients to prevent onset of delirium and improve quality of sleep.

Abstract:Addiction is a chronic, relapsing condition characterized by waves of abuse, decreased use and abuse again. Relapse is a common problem among patients with substance abuse. It is more prominent among patients who have stronger cravings upon initiation of treatment. Mindfulness is “the awareness that emerges through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally to the unfolding of experience”. Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention program (MBRP) is designed to enhance both specific and global intervention strategies and techniques to prevent relapse. MBRP shares the relapse prevention goals of decreasing contact and increasing coping with high-risk situations. It is useful for helping patients with addiction to cope with aversive experiences and drug craving without substance use. Aim of the study: To determine the effect of MBRP on substance craving and acceptance of aversive experiences among patients with addiction. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used. Setting: The study was conducted at the inpatient rehabilitation unit for patients with addiction at El-Maamoura Hospital for Psychiatric Medicine in Alexandria. Subjects: The subjects comprised 44 patients with addiction in the first week of rehabilitation, free from psychiatric co-morbid diseases. Tools: The Penn Alcohol Craving Scale, Five Factors Mindfulness Questionnaire, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II and socio-demographic and clinical data structured interview schedule. Results: An evident statistically significant difference was detected between pre-implementation and post-implementation of the program regarding scores of Penn Alcohol Craving Scale, Five Factors Mindfulness Questionnaire and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire. Recommendations: Assessment of level of craving, mindfulness factors and acceptance is recommended in routine clinical assessment of patients with addiction and in planning rehabilitation programs. In-service training of nurses and health care professionals on MBRP program must be performed to help in practical applications and holistic health promotion for patients with addiction.

Abstract:Today, nursing environment facing ahost challenges. In this environment, in addition to multitask of head nurses, they are often challenged in balance their professional work with their personal life. Hence, improving the work-life balance (WLB) of them is a vital issue, as it is the basis for their quality work life (QWL) and their life satisfaction (LS).  Aim: The aim of the present study was toexamine the influence of work life balance on quality work life and life satisfaction among head nurses .Method: Descriptive –correlation design was applied. The study was conducted at Qutor General Hospital which affiliated to The Ministry of Health in El-Gharbia Governorate .A convenience sample of all 61 head nurses from the above mentioned setting. The data of the study was collected by applying three tools: 1-Modified work- life balance questionnaire, 2-Modified quality work life questionnaire and 3-life satisfaction Scale. Results: High percent (72.1%) of head nurses perceived themselves low level oftotal work life balance with mean percent 54.94%.,  So ,more than forty (47.5%and 42.6) of head nurses had moderate and low level of total quality work life and more than half (52.4%) of them had moderate level of total life satisfaction. Head nurses' total work life balance, work/personal life enhancement had statistically positive correlation with their total of quality work life and its dimensions:  support services and job perception, and their total life satisfaction at p 0.001. Conclusion: There was significant influence of work life balance on quality work life and life satisfaction among head nurses at Qutor Gentral Hospital.  Therefore, top management at Qutor General Hospital: Need to develop policies that enable them to improve  working environment, to meet the work life balance, quality work life, and job, career and life satisfaction needs of their head nurses .Should pay more attention to work life balance as the strategy to improve head nurses' quality work life and their life satisfaction

Abstract:In the 21st century, ICTs have become a part of everyday children’s lives at home and school. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the mothers' perception of the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) by school-age children (6-12 years.Sitting: Data were collected from mothers of school-age children at King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh city.Methods and Sample: The descriptive correlation design was used in this study. It included 400 mothers of school-age children (6-12 years) of both sexes collected by a purposive nonrandom technique, excluded mothers of children with special needs, also who did not live with their children in the same house. Data collection tools: the instrument used to the data collection was questionnaire tilted (Parent Media Opinion Survey) with the reliability was reported as a Cronbach's alpha of .95after modifications conducted. Results:Although traditional television remains the prefer type of ICTs among school age children, and less preferred device was DVD. Also, the majority of children plays electronic games. However, they do not watch programs or games before they allow their children are exposed to. In current study there is significant correlation between family has more ICTs their children start using devices at older age and duration of family has ICTs also longer. Conclusion: the study concluded that the mothers perception regarding use of ICTs on developmental outcomes are generally good. Recommendations: the study recommended that educate mothers regarding methods of control and supervision children use of ICTs. Educate mothers using ICT and how to promote their children ability to decide what type of games they should use and time management while playing.

Abstract:Boundary spanning is essential for head nurses since nursing team does not work alone, as well nurses function in an intricate healthcare environment with numerous responsibilities, particularly at ICUs where nurses often in need for autonomous decision making because of critically ill patients. Nurses' satisfaction with head nurses' supervision is a result of managerial boundary spanning activities.This study intended to compare nurses' job autonomy as a mediator between nurses perceived head nurses’ boundary spanning activities and their supervision satisfaction at Tanta University Main Hospital and El-Manshawy General Hospital. A descriptive, comparative via cross-sectional research design was applied. Setting: all ICUs at Tanta University Main and El-Menshawy General Hospitals were included. Subjects: All (N=402) accessible nurses in Tanta University Main's ICUs (n=256) and El-Menshawy's ICUs (n=146) was incorporated.Tools: Nurse managers' boundary spanning, nurses’ job autonomy, supervision satisfaction scales were utilized. Results: nearly two-thirds of head nurses at El-Menshawy ICUs hadhighlevel of boundary spanning activities compared to nearly half at Tanta University ICUs hadlowlevel as rated by nurses. At El-Menshawy ICUs, the majorityof nurses hadhighpatient care autonomy levelcontrasted toover half hadlowlevel at Tanta University ICUs. More than three-quartersof nurses hadhighsupervision satisfaction level at El-Menshawy ICUs compared to over two-fifths at Tanta University ICUs had moderate level. Conclusion: Head nurses’ boundary spanning activities prophesy nurses' supervision satisfaction at El-Menshawy Generalhospitalandnurses' job autonomy mediates the association among two variables.So, Enhancing head nurses' boundary spanning role through conducting educational program is needed especially atTanta University Main hospital.

Abstract:The study was aimed to assess the effect of offering a holistic package of quality nursing care for nurses caring patients undergoing gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, to verify patient's safety. Research Design: Quasi experimental design was used to meet the aims of this study. Setting: study was conducted in the Gastroenterology Endoscopic units at Benha University Hospital. Sample: a convenience sample of all nurses (30) who are working in gastroenterology Endoscopic units at Benha University Hospital. Tools: Three tools were utilized. 1^st tool: Nurses' Knowledge Questionnaire, it includes two parts: Part 1: demographic data for nurses, Part 2: Nurse's knowledge test: to assess nurse's knowledge about care of patients undergoing upper GI endoscopy, 2^nd tool: Nurses' Observational Checklist to assess the nurses' practices for caring of patient undergoing upper GI endoscopy, 3^rd tool: The designed holistic package of quality nursing care for nurses caring patients undergoing GI endoscopy. The main results: the study demonstrated that there was highly statistically improvement in knowledge and practice of nurses caring patients undergoing GI endoscopy, also there was positive correlation between nurses' knowledge and practice scores, in addition to there was significant positive correlation between knowledge and practice scores with years of experiences. Conclusion: The present findings concluded that there were very highly statistical significant improvement in all items that related to infection control and patients' safety measures throughout study phases.Recommendations: The holistic package of quality nursing careshould be applied & evaluated periodically on endoscopic units. Further researchers; conducting educational training programs about enhancing safety measures, infection control, and patients' right for patient undergoing GI endoscopy.

Abstract:Family engagement means active partnerships between health care providers' families. Family engagement in ICU takes different forms depending on the needs of critically ill patients. Families could be engaged in the tangible and the intangible aspects of critically ill patients' care. Family engagement can improve patients' outcomes, reduce family anxiety and enhance family members' satisfaction in addition to reducing patient's stress and anxiety, lowering delirium prevalence, reducing length of hospital stay, enhancing patients' satisfaction and experience with care. Many research studies focus on the intangible aspect of family participation in patient care. There is a remarkably little research that investigate family members' contribution to care in the ICU. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine perception of ICU nurses toward family engagement in patients' care. Methods: a cross-sectional, descriptive research design was used in this study in which one instrument was used to assess the perception of ICU nurses toward family engagement in patients' care. The subjects were comprised of all ICU nurses who had previous experience for at least one year from 8 ICUs in 2 selected university hospitals. Results: patients' hygiene is the top reported aspect of engagement followed by oral feeding, distraction activities and assisting with ambulation. These are reported respectively by 62.05%, 60.33%, 56.89%, and 49.13% of the studied nurses in all ICUs. The least reported aspect of family engagement in all ICUs (2.58%) is the oral care.  Conclusion: Families are involved in the tangible and the intangible aspects of patients care in ICUs but they are involved more in the intangible aspects of patients care.  Recommendations: There is a need to establish polices, procedure, and protocols for family engagement in ICUs. An assessment tool to determine family willingness to be actively participating in their patients' care and the aspects of care they can be engaged in should be available.

Abstract:Despite technological advances contrast induced nephropathy (CIN) remains responsible for a third of all hospital-acquired acute kidney injury, but considered the agent of choice in cardiac interventional procedures. The aims of this study were to; identify associated risk factors for contrast induced nephropathy and assess patients' knowledge as regard preventative measures for CIN , and  evaluate  the effect of nursing instructions on minimizing CIN, Methods: Research design: a quasi- experimental research design. Setting: The study was conducted in cardiac catheterization unit at El -Orman Heart Hospital of Assiut University.Sample: A purposive sample of hundred male and female adult patients who underwent cardiac catheterization. Tools:  tool (I): Structured Interview Questionnaire Sheet: This included four parts (demographic data, physiologic reactions to contrast, risk factors for development of CIN, and serum creatinine follow-up), Tool (II): Patients' knowledge assessment sheet. Results: showed statistical significant differences between pre and post nursing instruction as regarding patient preventive measures for minimizing CIN after contrast injection. Conclusion: Nursing instructions had a good effect on reducing CIN among patients who underwent cardiac catheterization.Recommendation:  Provide evidence-based prevention strategies to allow nurses assist in the prevention of CIN

Abstract:Accidents are common among children with retinoblastoma, although these accidents were not adequately managed by community. Aim: prevention of home accident among children with retinoblastoma.Design: A quasi experimental design. Setting: at cancer children hospital 57357and parent home. Sampling: A purposeful samples of 100 parents according to specific criteria Tools: three tools were used for data collection. First tool: was an interviewing Questionnaire, (a) Socio – demographic characteristics (b) child health need and problem (c) parent knowledge about retinoblastoma (d) parent knowledge and practice according to prevention of home accident. Second tool: Home environment observation check list for assessing the children home safety. Third tool: medical record analysis regarding diagnosis. Results: The most of parent had satisfactory 'knowledge about prevention of home accident among their children with retinoblastoma, the most of parent had correct practices related prevention of home accident among their children with retinoblastoma, There is improvement of safe home environmental measure post education program around three quarter were safe home. Conclusion: The developed educational intervention led to significant improvements in parents' knowledge, practices, health need and safe of home environment children post educational intervention. The study concluded that the around two third of them were achieved health needs in post education program. The most of parents had unsatisfactory knowledge about retinoblastoma. This improved to satisfactory knowledge for majority of parents respectively post program implementation. More than three quarters of them their knowledge became satisfactory post program. The educational program produced improvement in parents' knowledge related to first aid, there were noticed improvement of parents’ total knowledge and practices through program Recommendations: Implement health education regarding prevention of home accident among child with retinoblastoma, instruction of prevention of home accident, First aid training should be provided to parents as an essential need.

Abstract:Cancer-related fatigue is one of the most common symptoms experienced by patients receiving chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.The aim of the study was to determine the effect of fatigue management on quality of life of patient receiving chemotherapy. Research design: A quasi experimental (pre and post) design was utilized. Setting: The study was carried out at in the chemotherapy outpatient clinic at Tanta University Hospital ElGharbia governorate. Subjects: A convenience sample of 100 patients with cancer related fatigue after experiencing chemotherapy.Tools: (1): structured interview questionnaire to assess patients' socio-demographic data, medical history and anthropometric measurements.(2): The Revised Piper Fatigue Scale. (3): European Organization of Research and Treatment-Related Quality of Life Core Questionnaire (EORTC-QLC30). Results: the higher percentage (48.0%) of studied patients fall in the age group from 40 to 60 years the with mean age (51.79).study revealed that there statistically significant difference between Piper Fatigue Scale (PFS)pre management and post management.Conclusion: After 1 month of intervention an enhancement of total of quality of life scale domains scores and total subscales was revealed. Recommendation:-Health education programs about the cancer, treatment modalities and self-care should be provided for cancer patients using high innovative teaching methods. Teaching programs for cancer patients about how to manage cancer related fatigue.

Abstract:Visually handicapped children unable to carry out normal activities because of defects of vision, including blindness the aim of the study was to evaluate levels of dependency of doing daily Living Skills and self-care capacity among Visually Impaired child   Aim: To evaluate  levels of dependency of doing daily Living Skills and self-care capacity among Visually Impaired child. Research design: A descriptive design was used in this study.Setting: This study was conducted in El Noor schools of visual handicap at Tanta city sample: It contains (9) class room with the total number of (86) students with visual handicap. Tools of Data collection: Two tools were used to collect the required data, 1:-Structured interview schedule and structured observational check list. The results: It was revealed that there were statistically significant difference between the total score of self-dependence in relation to the socio-demographic variables such as Age in years and Educational levelConclusion &Recommendations: There was a highly statistically significant relationship between total score of self-dependence and socio-demographic factors as regards to age, educational level and residence. This may be due to lack of mother's knowledge, lack of supervision, follow up of child and lack of motivation resources and facilities that affect children knowledge and performance. Therefore the study recommended in service training programs and workshops should be conducted for those children to improve their knowledge and performance, health education to mothers about self-care management to child and program about care of their child.

Abstract:The evidence that staying physically fit keeps your brain healthy into old age is especially compelling. Most concrete is the link between physical activities and cognitive preservation. Aim: Evaluate The Influence of physical activities on improving the memory of elderly Research design: Experimental design. Settings: The study was conducted in Geriatric home at Suez Canal University. Subjects: A convenient sample of 60 older adults, from the previous setting at age 60 or higher, without cognitive impairments.Tools of data collection: First tool: Interviewing questionnaire, it was composed of 4 parts, part one: socio-demographic data, part two: Medical history, and nutritional style. Part three: Assess elderly's knowledge regarding to physiological changes, physical activity, and exercise. Part four: Assess elderly's practice regarding to physical activities, and exercise. Second tool: Observational checklist, it was composed of 4 parts, Part one: Assess elderly's general health. Part two: Assess elderly's activities of daily living. Part three: Assess elderly's performance of exercise. Part four: Assess elderly's mini mental state. Results: As regard comparison between pre-program and post-program mean scores of all scales , the present study revealed that scales of elderly knowledge of physiological changes, elderly knowledge of physical activity and exercise, total knowledge scale, elderly practice of physical activities, elderly practice of exercise and sport, total practice scale, elderly performance regarding exercise and physical activity scale, and elderly mini mental state scale were statistically highly significant P < 0.001 pre, post-program, while scales of elderly total activity of daily living was non statistically significant P > 0.05 pre, post-program. Conclusion:  Application of physical activity training program was effective in improved knowledge, practices, performance, and mini mental state of elderly. Recommendations: Older adults are at risk for or may have multiple chronic conditions. Thus physical activity may interfere with or retard both disease pathways and age-related decline in the pathway to disability, older adults may not know what they can do or should do for physical activity, thus, Conducting physical activity programs for older persons that can be safe, effective in community settings, and low cost therapeutic approach, and members of health team should be planning and implemented several health educational programs regarding physical activities, which types of eating and drinks that enhancing memory and brain function for elderly people in geriatric home.

Abstract:The present study was a descriptive study that aimed to study effect of post abortion counseling on woman life style. A Qausi-expermental sample that consisted of 116 post-aborted women, the study was conducted at postnatal room in AIN Shams University, maternity hospital. Data collected using Arabic structured interviewing questionnaire sheet includes characteristics of the studied women, women knowledge regards abortion and management, lifestyle assessment tool, physiological and psychological needs sheet, Supportive in structural booklet for aborted women, follow up after post abortion counseling, follow up after using of session booklet, scoring system tool. The results of this study revealed that more than half of women do not have knowledge regards abortion and its management, more over there was more than half of women had unhealthy lifestyle during pregnancy. In addition, there was more than tow third of them had positive impact regards post abortion counseling on lifestyle. It was concluded that the majority of the studied women had negative attitude toward the lifestyle meanwhile, there were many factors as age, work, family history, no. of abortion, unhealthy lifestyle behavior that effect on post aborted woman. It was recommended that study recommended that Counseling program for women with abortion problems and life style modification. Educational programs and messages through the counseling session, counseling booklet, brochures, to increase women awareness about effect of unhealthy lifestyle.

Abstract:In developing countries like Egypt, unintended pregnancies frequently occur during the first year postpartum.
Aim: of study was to assess the impact of contraceptive counseling during antenatal visits on postpartum long acting reversible contraceptive use. Setting: This study was conducted in antenatal units that are affiliated to Assiut General and Iman Hospitals in Assiut governorate. Sample:300 pregnant women with history of previous delivery attending ANC units were eligible for inclusion in the current study sample during the period of study. These women wererandomly categorized into two groups; study group (n=150)who received contraceptive counselingand control group (n=150)who received routine antenatal counseling Tools: Two tools were used.Tool (I): baseline data structured interview schedules and Tool (II): Follow up interview scheduleResults: (68.5%) of women in the present study were between 21 and 30 years of age, had intermediate education (66.7%), were housewives(78.5%), lived in urban areas (56.6%), had history of delivery by caesarian section(53%), and interviewed in the third trimester of the current pregnancy (82.4%). There was significant (p<0.0001) greater rate of postpartum long acting reversible contraceptive use in study group (63%) than in control group (27%). Univariate analysis in study group showed that women of older age (p=0.0011), caesarian section as a method of previous deliveries (p=0.023), and contraceptive counseling during third trimester of the current pregnancy (p=0.0009) were associated with significantly higher contraceptive use. Multi-variate analysis showed that third trimester counseling (p<0.0001; HR: 0.072, 95%CI of HR: 0.019-0.27) and CS as mode of previous deliveries (p<0.0001; HR: 6.88, 95%CI of HR: 2.39-19.79) were independent factors to predict higher use of long acting reversible contraceptive in postpartum period.
Conclusions: Contraceptive counseling conducted during antenatal visits, especially during the third trimester of pregnancy, resulted in increased use of LARC in the postpartum period

Abstract:Heart failure (HF) is increasingly recognized as a major public health problem in industrialized countries. Because of the burden of symptoms, recurrent hospitalizations and use of emergency services numerous methods were proposed to control HF including self-care. The aim of conducting this study was to evaluate the efficacy of supportive educational package on self-care among HF patients. Method: A randomized controlled trial design was utilized to conduct this study. A purposive sample of 80 HF patients from both sexes was randomly divided into study and control groups. Three tools were used to collect data; 1- socio-demographic characteristics 2- Atlanta HF Knowledge Test 3-Self-Care of HF Index. Results: after applying supportive sessions the total mean score of knowledge improved significantly from 4.55 ±0.64 to 25.73 ±1.55 among the study group. While there was no change in the total mean scores of knowledge of the patients in the control group through program phases 4.23 ±1.29. Post-session the total mean score of self-care aspects of HF care among the study group was 79.85 ± 2.55 compared to the control group 33.25 ± 5.86. Conclusion; Based on the findings of this study, there was inadequate knowledge about self care among HF patients before supportive approaches. After implementation, there was a statistically significant improvement in the study group’s knowledge compared to the control group. Post education self-care aspects improved significantly among the study group in contrast to the control group. Recommendations, establish of the supportive educational package in cardiovascular department by nurses with necessary comprehensive reference material.

Abstract:Varicose vein is one of the common vascular abnormalities in the world. Patients with varicose veins are at high risk for developing deep vein thrombosis as venous stasis and injury often cause superficial phlebitis that can pass through perforating vessels to involve the deep venous system. Since this leads to many complications the high risk people such as nurses, teachers ,sales man and traffic police has to be aware about the varicose vein and its preventive and management measures .Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of video assisted teaching program on knowledge about Prevention and management of varicose veins among first year nursing students. Design: quasi experimental research design was utilized to achieve the aim of this study. Setting: The study was conducted at Faculty of Nursing Menoufia University. Sample: - A convenience sample of all first year undergraduate nursing students (300) who were admitted to Faculty of Nursing of the academic year 2018-2019 during the first term .Tool :two tools are used1:l An interviewing questionnaire :to identify basic students  personnel data and knowledge on prevention and management of varicose veins 2:Physiological method to assessweight, height and BMI of the students. Result: illustrated that, the mean age of students was18.25 ± 0.46years, 66.70% were female. The mean scores of knowledge about varicose vein before video assisted teaching program was 11.7 while after video assisted teaching program was 21.09.Regarding mean scores of knowledge about management of varicose vein before video assisted teaching program was 13.04 while after video assisted teaching program was 24.92. The mean scores of knowledge about prevention of varicose vein before video assisted teaching program was 6.01 while after video assisted teaching program was 11.72. There was statistical significant difference between before and after video assisted teaching program regarding all mean scores of knowledge.
Conclusions:. There was an increase in the knowledge level among first year nursing students about prevention and management of varicose veins following the video assisted teaching program. Recommendations:. Continuous education for all nursing students will help to promote and update their knowledge on prevention and management of varicose veins.

Abstract:Diabetic patient education on appropriate self-care play a key role in preventing foot complications. The aim of this study was to estimate the effectiveness of an educational program on diabetic foot care for elderly. Quasi experimental research design was utilized. The study was conducted at four rural villages in Assiut city. The total number of participants was 100 diabetic elderly patients which chosen by a multi- stage sampling technique. Two tools were developed by the researchers; tool I: A structured interview questionnaire include two parts, 1^st Part included demographic data. The 2^nd part included questions for assessing foot self-care knowledge, tool II: an observational checklist to assess the elderly' practice regarding foot care. The results revealed that 85.0% of the studied elderly are diabetic since 5-10 years and (91.0%) of them hadn’t diabetes foot. Good score of elderly` knowledge about foot care in pre, post and follow up were (0.0%, 21.0% and 16.0% respectively). Also (4.0%, 93.0% and 63.0% respectively) had satisfactory score of practice in pre, post and follow up, with a statistically significant difference in pre and post tests and in pre and follow up tests.The study concluded that there is a serious lack of diabetic foot care knowledge and practice among the studied elderly. Health education intervention succeeded in improving them which suggest the essential foot care education should be acquainted to a larger group in different health care centers over a longer period of time. Advanced research is recommended to determine at whether the increases in foot care practices should be implemented and re-enforced.

Abstract:Bipolar disorder (BD) is the most common chronic illness that appears, in adolescence or early adulthood and bipolar disorder are major challenges that affect on patient's quality of life (QOL). Restore patient's life through improving physical, psychological, and social functioning. Aim: This study aimed at enhancement of quality of life among patients with bipolar disorder.Design: The study was conducted on a purposive sample of 40 patients with bipolar disorder.Setting: The study was conducted in the outpatient clinic of the Institute of Psychiatry at Ain Shams University.Data were collected using: 1) Interviewing questionnaire containing the following parts: A) Socio-demographic characteristics. B) Patients' clinical data sheet. C) Patients' level of knowledge regarding bipolar disorder. 2) Quality of life in bipolar disorder(QOL.BD-56)questionnaire.The results: there was a high statistically significant difference between pre- and post- intervention as regarding total dimensions of QOL among patients with bipolar disorder. Besides, there were statistically significant differences between total knowledge and total QOL post- intervention.Conclusion: the implementation of the intervention program had statistically positive effect on the QOL dimensions among patients with bipolar disorder.Recommendation: designing a comprehensive nursing protocol focusing on liaison role of psychiatric nurse to facilitate psychosocial adjustment among bipolar disorder patients.

Abstract:substance abuse among school students  may lead to criminal penalty in addition to possible physical, social, and psychological harm. Psychosocial intervention programs in schools focus on children’s social and academic skills, including enhancing peer relationships, self-control, coping skills, social behaviors, and drug offer refusal skills.Aim: to develop Psychosocial intervention program for school students for protection  against substance abuse.Study design: a quasi-experimental design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: this study was conducted at two schools (school for males(el-tabripreparatory school)and school for females (the new heliopolis preparatory school) at Cairo city.Subject: convenient sample of 262 students were recruited for conducting this study. Data collection tools: 1) Socio-demographic questionnaire for students. 2)knowledge and attitude about substance abuse. 3) Self Concept Scale.Results: the present study revealed that there was a highly statistically significant improvement regarding knowledge and attitude scores post implementation of psycho social intervention program. In addition, there were highly statistically significant positive correlations between knowledge and attitude of studied students. Conclusion: the implementation of psychosocial intervention program has a statistically significant positive effect on students knowledge and attitude concerning substance abuse. Recommendations: The developed program should be implemented on a wider scale in the study settings and in similar ones to confirm its positive effects and improvement. Abstract:Nutrition during pregnancy can influence the health of the mother and her newborn. Nutritional education is essential to enable antenatal mothers to understand the knowledge of nutrition to develop effective strategies to reduce malnutrition and encouraging healthier dietary behaviors.The study aimedto evaluate the effect of an educational program regarding specific nutrition for pregnant women at outpatient clinic in women’s health hospital, Assiut University. Subjects and Methods: A Quiz-experimental pre and post-test research design was used in this study. Setting: the study was conducted at the outpatient clinic in women's health hospital, Assiut UniversitySample: Quota sampling used in this study; the total number of pregnant women was 108. Tools of the study: which contained three tools; tool I: Socioeconomic scale developed by Abd-Eltwab, 2012, tool II included obstetrical data and tool III nutritional sheetwhich contained questions to assess women's knowledge about specific nutrition during pregnancy. Results: there was a statistically significant difference between the level of pregnant women’s knowledge of pre and post-test (0.000*) with mean ± SD 13.75 ± 9.66 on pre & on post-test became 38.75 ± 7.30 respectively. Conclusion: Education program leads to significant improvement in pregnant women’s knowledge regarding specific nutrition during pregnancy.Recommendation: Continuous health education programs to improve pregnant women’s knowledge toward specific nutrition during pregnancy.

Abstract:Nowadays, increasing number of researches focus on Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in order to achieve higher quality of patient care.Aim: The study aim was to assess nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and perceptions of barriers towards evidence-based practice in Menoufia University Hospital. Design: Descriptive research design was utilized to achieve the aim of this study.Setting: the study was conducted at different units at Menoufia University Hospital.Sample: A convince sample of 100 nurses  Tools:three tools were utilized to collect the data.:An interviewing questionnaireto assess demographic data and assessing knowledge of the EBP,Evidence-Based PracticeAttittude Scale and Evidence-Based Practice Barriers Scale .Result: illustrated that participants had positive attitudes towards evidence‐based practice. Regarding knowledge, more than two thirds of nurses don’t had knowledge about evidence based practice. There  are many barriers for implementing evidence‐based practice as time,knowledge,administration not allow implementation of evidence‐based practice and  the nurse does not capable of evaluating the quality of the research.Conclusions:the findings from this study concluded that nurses had positive attitudes  towards  EBP,  their  knowledge  were limited,and there are many  barriers  for  implementing EBP .Recommendations: Ongoing education for nurses regarding research and technological skill is needed to support research implementation in clinical setting.

Abstract:Ebola virus disease is a serious, often deadly illness, which affects human being and inhuman primates. Ebola has recognized as a significant reason of illness and death, especially among health care personnel. Objective: This study aimed to develop an educational package for Nigerian nursing students about Ebola virus disease.
Design: Cross-sectional descriptive study was used; College of Nursing & Midwifery, Kano state, Nigeria was the setting of the study. The sample consisted of 90 nursing students who were selected using convenient sample.
Structured self-administered questionnaire to evaluate socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, and practice of students regarding Ebola and an educational package evaluation tool.
Results: revealed thatless than half (48.0%) were low socio-economic level, (45%) reported that media was the source of information, Most (87.8%) of the study group had fair knowledge level about prevention of Ebola. less than half (46.7%) had poor level about the disinfectant while more than one-third (38.9%) had good knowledge about the physical agent. For practice most of the students had improper practice for how to disinfect the surface and also following infection control measures.
Conclusion: most of the study group had good knowledge score while most of them had improper level of practice and all the expert found the package is effective for raising the students’ awareness about Ebola.

Abstract:End of life care has received more emphasis in recent years throughout the healthcare system. Terminally ill patients with cancer suffer from several physical and psychological symptoms and multiple organ failures. Nurses who care for dying or terminally ill patients should recognize the dying patients' bill of rights. Aim: the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of end of life education program on nurses' knowledge and practice regarding care of terminally ill patients with cancer. Methods: The data were gathered from Medical wards, ICU, and Surgical wards at Mansoura Oncology Center. A subjective sampling of 40 nurses were participated in the study. Two tools were used for data collection.  A pilot study was conducted and the tools were revised and modified. Four educational sessions were introduced as the nurses were divided into 2 groups; 20 nurses in each. Each group had 2 sessions; one for providing essential knowledge and the other aimed to improve skills and performance regarding providing care for terminally ill patients with cancer. Results: the results revealed that there was highly statistically significant relation (p<0.001) as regards to both knowledge and practice scores post educational program.
Conclusion: There was an improvement of nurses' knowledge and practice after provision of education program on end of life patients care.

Abstract:This study aimed to explore childbirth experiences among high risk primipara women. Design: A descriptive study was utilized. Subjects: A purposive sample consisted of 110 women who met the inclusion criteria. Setting: The study was carried out at labor and delivery unit at Mansoura University Hospital, from February 2017 to July of 2017. Study Tools: The data has been collected using two tools, A structured interviewing questionnaire and the expectation and experience of birth scale. Results: The study result revealed that the Mean± SD of the age was (23.6±14.8), the gestational age among studied sample was ranged from 38- 40 WKs and have different types of high risk condition such as PROM 39.1%, & pre eclampsia 30.9%. 48.2%ofwomen had birth vaginally & 36.3% by CS. Around three quarter (72.7%) had positive experience regarding getting intravenous fluids, more than two third of them had positive experience regarding fetus health will be checked by special instruments, performing vaginal examination for checking cervix dilatation and deliver by a male doctor( 70.9%, 70% &69.1%). While more than half had negative experience regarding supportive measures, information given to women and communication between nurses and women (56.3%, 53.7% & 50.9%) respectively. Conclusion: The current study concluded that the majority of studied women had a positive experience regarding food & fluids withhold during labor. While more than had negative experience regarding supportive measures, information given to women & communication between nurses and women. Recommendation: Knowing women's expectations are very important in shaping high risk women's experience during childbirth.

Abstract:Diabetic foot problems in developing countries may consume as much as 40% of health care resources available for diabetes. This mean that programs aimed at early intervention and prevention of diabetic foot are importance for diabetic people. Aim: the study aimed to evaluate the effect of health belief model for prevention of diabetic foot among elderly. Study design: a quasi-experimental design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: this study was conducted at the diabetes and endocrine outpatient clinic at Beni-suef university hospital. Subject: non-probability purposive sample of 70 diabetic elderly, admitted to the previously mentioned setting were recruited for conducting this study. Data collection tools: First tool structured interviewing questionnaire, it was composed of four parts, part one: Socio-demographic data, part two: Medical history of the elderly, part three: Elderly' knowledge regarding diabetes in general and diabetic foot specifically, part four: The therapeutic behaviors of the elderly. Second tool: The health belief model (HBM) constructs. Third tool: Foot self-care observational checklist. Results: There was significant difference between elderly' knowledge, health beliefs, compliance with diabetes therapeutic health behaviors and foot self-care practices pre-post and after two months of HBM based educational program. Conclusion: The HBM based education program is an effective and efficient manner in improving elderly’ knowledge, health beliefs toward diabetes and diabetic foot and enhancing their compliance with diabetes therapeutic health behaviors and foot self- care practices. Recommendations: Conducting and disseminating HBM based educational programs at various settings to reach all targeted diabetic elderly to increase their positive behaviors towards diabetic care in general and foot care in specific, provide specialist educator nurse  in the diabetes clinic to assess the needs and the education that the diabetic elderly needs, developing and disseminating medical posters or pamphlets to raise the health awareness among the elders. Further researches in the area of diabetic foot as well as diabetes prevention and care should be encouraged.

Abstract:Acne vulgaris is the most disseminated dermatological disease amongst adolescents. Along with the main attributing factors, various elements can worsen or exacerbate acne, among which psychological stress is the most significant.
Aims and Objectives: This study sought to determine the impact of acne vulgaris on the quality of life among undergraduate and postgraduate students attending Nizwa university, Nizwa, Oman.
Materials and Methods: This study is a cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey including randomly selected undergraduate and postgraduate students in Nizwa university. Evaluation of the impact of acne vulgaris on their quality of life was determined using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Data are analyzed using SPSS software. 
Results: This study included 900 students from whom 75 participants were acne patients. Most of the students were within age range of 26-30 years. The majority of the students, i.e. 60 (80%), were undergraduates and they were equally distributed between science and humanity streams. DLQI scores revealed that the quality of the life of the subjects was impaired by this dermatological condition, as approximately half of the students 39 (52%) has been moderately or severally affected by acne vulgaris. Interestingly, 55 students (73%) have expressed being stressed by having acne vulgaris and only 24 students (32%) have sought counselling service to manage the stress related to their acne. Both the direct stress associated with acne problem and seeking counselling service were found to be significantly correlated with DLQI score (P < 0.05). In conclusion, our findings demonstrate that acne vulgaris has a valuable impact on the quality of life amongst students attending Nizwa University, which raise concerns regarding its psychological effect on them and suggests offering appropriate counselling service alongside the medical intervention.

Abstract:Background: Chemotherapy treatment can be a traumatic experience for adults, imagine for kids. Due to adverse effects of cancer treatment on children's mental health, chemotherapy side-effects and positive effects of infusionarium therapy on nausea, vomiting and stress. Purpose: this study was aimed to determine the effect of infusionarium on occurrence of selected physical and emotional complications among children undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: The present study is a quasi-experimental research design done on 60 children undergoing cancer chemotherapy in South Egypt Cancer Institute - Assiut University in Egypt from December 2015 to December 2016. By convenience sampling method and then allocation, they were randomly divided into two groups (30children for each group aged from 3-12 years old) as control and experimental. The data included the demographic questionnaires, all indices of nausea and vomiting were measured by two scales and stress self-assessment questionnaire. Nausea and vomiting and stress questionnaire was performed before and after chemotherapy course. Results: Approximately all indices of nausea and vomiting significantly reduced during and 2hrs post-chemotherapy by infusionarium and exhibited it is as a useful technique for control of nausea and vomiting in children. Significant difference was found between the control and experimental low stress level in the two groups during chemotherapy (p=0.035), there were more than half of infusionarium group children have low stress level compared to 26.6% of control group children at the same level. This shows the positive and efficient effects of infusionarium in reducing the stress during chemotherapy of the children. Conclusions: infusionarium therapy reduced chemotherapy-induced nausea, vomiting and stress level among children with cancer. Recommendations: Conduct progressive and permanent studies on infusionarium in specific alternatives since infusionarium has better effects on decreasing nausea, vomiting and stress before and after chemotherapy.

Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Arabic version of mini depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance questionnaires from Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System. 
Background.  No Arabic version of these questionnaires has been validated. Considering the increase in the number of infants admitted to the Neonate Intensive Care Unit in Jordan, therefore imperative and necessary to valid the Arabic version of mini depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance questionnaires from Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System.
Design. A cross-sectional descriptive study
Methods. A total of 310 parents with hospitalized infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at two major hospitals in Jordan. The questionnaire was translated from Englishto Arabic. Forward and backward translation was performed. Factor structure was determined by confirmatory factor analysis. Composite Reliability to evaluate internal consistency was calculated.
 Results: The confirmatory factor analysis extracted three constructs with 12 items [anxiety = 4, depression = 5 and sleep disturbance = 3] with good fit indices results [χ²=1.398; GFI=.963; CFI=.996; IFI=.996; RMSEA=.036]. Average Variance Extracted and Composite Reliability of the three constructs were larger than .50 and .70 respectively, showing good convergence, discriminant validity, and construct reliability for the three constructs.
Conclusion:The mini Arabic version of the three constructs for anxiety, depression and sleep disturbance questionnaires were found to be a reliable and valid measurement to assess depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance symptoms in Jordan.
Relevance of clinical practice: The result of this study provide Arabic version for Mini depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance   questionnaires which help nurses to assess psychological problems for parents with infant in NICU.

Abstract:Breast cancer related lymphedema represents a major complication of breast cancer treatment, impacting the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. Patients with lymphedema need to conduct lifelong self-care activities to control the progression of swelling, manage lymphedema-associated symptom burden, and minimize long term negative outcomes.  Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of educational instructions regarding self-care of women with breast cancer related lymphedema. Study design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: This study was conducted in the outpatient breast clinic at Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Center, affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Subjects: A purposive sample of 50 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer related lymphedema, post mastectomy, treated with radiotherapy free from any other dysfunctional disabilities that might interfere with self-care and didn't receive any instructions regarding breast cancer related lymphedema. Data collection tools: A structured interview questionnaire for women with breast cancer related lymphedema, lymphedema scale, lymphedema functioning, disability and health questionnaire, upper limb functional index and lymphedema self-care practices questionnaire.Results: The mean age of the studied women was 47.71±71.16, and 88% of them had satisfactory level of total knowledge post implementation of self-care educational instructions, also; 92 % of them had adequate level of total lymphedema self-care practices post implementation of self-care educational instructions. Conclusion: The implementation of educational instructions regarding self-care for women with breast cancer related lymphedema has a statistically significant positive effect on their knowledge and self-care practices.  Recommendation: Self-care educational instructions should be added to the routine nursing care delivered to those women in all breast cancer treatment units and should be updated periodically in order to enhance their knowledge and self-care practices.

Abstract:Twenty two percent of newborns mortality rate in the first month of life is reduced if they start breastfeeding and Skin to Skin Contact (SSC) within the first hour after birth. Early initiations of breastfeeding and SSC immediately after birth lead to acceleration of oxytocin, endorphins and other hormones secretion that decrease time of third stage of labor and promote bonding between mothers and their her newborns. Aim: The study aimed to estimate the influence of early SSC on the thermal regulation of the newborn and the rate of breastfeeding at different points of time. We also aim to establish whether SSC reduce maternal pain during episiotomy repair and decreases the time to expel placenta. Study Design: Non randomized controlled trial was used in this study. Setting: This study conducted at Labor and Delivery Unit at Mansoura University Hospitals and private hospital in El-Mahalla El-Kobra city. Subjects: A convenience sample of 118 mothers and their newborns chosen on the base of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection tools:, Three tools were used for collecting data; namely (Structured Interview Questionnaire, Newborn assessment sheet and Maternal assessment sheet) Results: Early maternal/ newborn SSC during 3rd stage of labor shows more thermal stability of the newborn, start breast feeding within 30 minute from delivery of baby, the third stage duration was shorter and level of pain decreased in SCG than control group where Mean ±SD was 1.9 ±1.0 and 6.7 ±1.7 respectively. There was statistically significant difference between two groups (p < .001).  Conclusion Initiation of SSC during 3rd stage of labor results in more thermal stability and early breastfeeding initiation to the newborn. As well, short duration of the 3rd stage of labor and decrease pain level to mother than control group.

Abstract:Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a common and potentially lethal disease which leads to severe complications with poor quality of life and even sudden death related to pulmonary embolism. Hence, DVT is a serious condition that needs to be considered during nursing care for hospitalized patients to avoid related morbidities and mortalities. Aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care guidelines on preventing deep venous thrombosis among patients undergoing arthroplastic surgery. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used to achieve the aim of this study. Setting: The current study was conducted at the Orthopedic Department in Elhosin and Bab El-shaeria University Hospitals, affiliated to El-azhar University. Subjects: A sample of convenience of adult patients (156) admitted to the Orthopedic Unit at the previously mentioned hospitals and all available nurses (40) were recruited for the study. Tools: Data were collected through: I. Astructured designed interviewing questionnaire, which included demographic characteristics of nurses and patients, and Nurses’ knowledge about DVT II. Autar DVT Risk Assessment Scale III. Assessment of nurses’ practices regarding application of DVT preventive guidelines. Results: The most important findings of the study revealed that, there were   statistically significant differences between pre/post nurses’ knowledge and practices about DVT. As well, two thirds of Arthroplastic surgery patients under study have high risk for DVT. Conclusion: Nursing care guidelines improved nurses’ performance regarding prevention of DVT among patients undergoing arthroplastic surgery. Recommendations: This study recommended continuous education on DVT prevention for nurses caring for orthopedic patients through organizing regular in-service training programs. Further study should be conducted on a larger sample and at different settings regarding prevention of DVT occurrence among hospitalized patients.

Abstract:Mental health nurses were reported to encounter frequent work stress, which sometimes leads to job burnout. Data on job stress and the burnout syndrome in particular, on mental health nurses remain scanty. Aim: The current study aimed to assess the relationship between work related to stress, burnout, and self-efficacy among psychiatric nurses. Design: The research design was employed in this study a descriptive correlational. Setting:The study was applied at two psychiatric hospitals:Psychiatric Hospital at Beni-Suef Governorate and Psychiatric Hospital in Mit-Khalf at Menoufyia Governorate, Egypt. Sample:A purposive sample of 120 psychiatric nurses was selected from the mentioned settings at the inpatients’ departments. Data collectiontools:A structured interview questionnaire, includes personal and medical data sheet for psychiatric nurses, Psychiatric Nurses Job Stress Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale and Burnout Scale. Results:The study findings stated that more than half of psychiatric nurses had moderate burnout and moderate stress more than two-thirds had low self-efficacy. There were highly significant negative correlations between psychiatric nurses’ self-efficacy and both emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between personal achievement and self-efficacy. Conclusion:The work stress and burnout were the most psychological problems among psychiatric nurses. Unluckily, almost half of the psychiatric nurses had moderate burnout and stress. As well, more than two-thirds of them had low self-efficacy. A significant correlation was found between stress, burnout, self-efficacy, and years of experience. Additionally, there was a statistically significant negative correlation between psychiatric nurses’ work-related stress and self-efficacy. Recommendations:Assertiveness and stress management training should be provided to all psychiatric nurses to enhance their stress-bearing capacity, improving mental health, self-efficacy and job performance.

Abstract:Menopause is a life event that can profoundly affect quality of life among menopausal women. More than 80% of women report physical and psychological symptoms that commonly accompany menopause, with varying degrees of severity and life disruption. Aim of the study to evaluate the effect of health educational program on quality of life among menopausal women. The study design: A quasi experimental study design was used. Sample: purposive sample included 120 menopausal women. The study setting: study was conducted at outpatient clinics of the maternity hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University hospitals. Tools: Two tools used for data collection, the first tool, an interview questionnaire which divided into four parts. The first for assessing socio demographic characteristics, the second for assessing menstruation history, the third for assessing Women’s knowledge about menopausal pre-post\ test design to determine the effectiveness of educational program on women’s knowledge, the fourth for the assessment women’s reported practice toward menopausal symptoms pre-post\ test design to determine the effectiveness of educational program on women’s practice toward menopausal symptoms. The second tools: menopausal quality of life assessment scale (MENQOL), for assessing menopausal women‘s quality of life by questionnaire. Results: The finding of this study proved the effect of the health educational program on quality of life among menopausal women through; high statistical significant between total score level of menopausal women and total practice score level pre/post educational program, High statistical significant difference between quality of life among menopausal women pre/ post educational program. Conclusion: Health educational program had positive efficient on improving menopausal women‘s knowledge and practice toward menopausal symptoms and improving quality of life among menopausal women. Recommendations: Increase women awareness about peri-menopausal period so reduce the severity of menopausal symptoms. Also further research addressing women's health needs is also essential for improving the quality of life of menopausal women.

Abstract:  This study aimed to determine the effect of early maternal- neonate skin -to -skin contact on the neonate’s temperature and breastfeeding initiation. Setting: This study was conducted at labor and delivery units at Mansoura University Hospitals, Egypt. Design: A quasi- experimental study was utilized. Subjects: A purposeful sample of 100 healthy women and their neonates. Women were randomly divided into two equal groups. The first fifty healthy women and their neonates (the control group) received routine hospital care) and the subsequent fifty women (the study group) provided SSC. Tools: Three tools were used to gather data. Tool 1: Woman and neonate assessment tool which includes woman' demographic characteristics and neonates ’clinical data. Tool 2: Infant breastfeeding assessment tool (IBFAT): This tool was used to assess the success of first breastfeeding and time to effective breastfeeding. Tool 3: Neonates body temperature assessment form: It was a written form a researcher measured and recorded neonates ‘auxiliary temperature with a digital thermometer Results: The study revealed that neonates who received early skin to skin contact with mothers after birth are less susceptible to hypothermia than those who do not. In addition, there are statistically significant differences between SSC compared to routine hospital care groups regarding success in first breastfeeding. Conclusion: Early maternal-neonate skin -to -skin contact at birth has positive effects for all mothers and their neonates on the duration and initiation of successful breastfeeding, neonate’s temperature regulation, and prevention of hypothermia compared to neonates who received routine hospital care. Recommendations: Study clearly indicates all healthy babies more than 37 weeks gestation born by vaginal should be positioned in immediate skin to skin contact within the first hour of life or until the completed first breastfeeding and there is a need to organize continuing nursing education and training workshop for all the nurses and innovate a clear protocol on how to implement skin to skin contact for all mothers immediately after birth. These changes essentially support the millennium goals of enhanced maternal & child health.

Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing intervention on decreasing the level of shame, strain & improving the coping methods of parents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) children.Design: A quasi-experimental (one group pre/post) design was utilized in this study. Sample: A purposive sample of 40 ADHD children with their parents was targeted and recruited for engaging in this study.Setting: The study was conducted in the Child Psychiatry Clinic at The Center of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University.Tools of data collection: A structured interview questionnaire. It was designed by the researchers. It included the following parts; Demographic characteristics of children  such as child code number, age, gender, address, child rank, duration of  illness), data related to parents included age, educational level, presence of hereditary factor, occupation and marital status. The Brief Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced, Caregiver Strain Questionnaire, Parental Shame Scale. Results: There were highly statistical significant differences between mean scores of pre-post intervention regarding all studied variables related to knowledge, feeling of shame, strain and coping. In relation to pre/post intervention, there was a statistical significant correlation between parents’ knowledge and coping in post intervention and feeling of shame in pre intervention. Also, there was statistical significant correlation between strain and coping pre intervention and strain pre/post intervention.While, there was no statistical significant correlation between other variables. Conclusion: Nursing intervention was effective in improving parents’ methods of coping, feeling of shame and strainRecommendation: The application of this research will be of interest to education authorities, especially those concerned in bridging the gap between home and school to helpyoung people with ADHD.

Abstract: The invasive cardiac procedure as electrophysiology study (EPS) can be anxiety provoking for many patients so, critical care nurses must understand the technical and psychosocial aspects of an electrophysiology study, be knowledgeable and skilled to ensure adequate care. Aim of the study: 1- to assess critical care nurses' knowledge and practices regarding electrophysiology study. 2- to assess patients' level of anxiety before and after the electrophysiology study and 3- to investigate the relationship between nurses' knowledge and practices and patient state-trait anxiety level concerning electrophysiology study. Research questions: Q1- What is the level of critical care nurses' knowledge about electrophysiology study? Q2- What is the level of critical care nurses' practice about electrophysiology study? Q3-What is the state-trait anxiety level of patients undergoing electrophysiology study? Q4-Is there a relationship between the critical care nurses' knowledge and practices concerning electrophysiology study and the patient state-trait anxiety level? Research design: Descriptive correlational research design was utilized in this study. Setting: This study was carried out at a selected cardiac care unit affiliated to Cairo University Hospital, in Cairo governorate. Subjects: Convenient sample of 40 adult male and female patients undergoing electrophysiology study were recruited in the study. In addition to all critical care nurses working in the selected cardiac care unit affiliated to Cairo University Hospital, in Cairo governorate who agreed to participate in the study (50). Tools: Personal characteristics and background data sheet for nurses, knowledge assessment questionnaire, Observational checklist and Patient state-trait anxiety level assessment sheet; composed of two parts part A-Personal characteristics and medical data of the patient and Part B: Patient state-trait anxiety inventory. Results: 76 % of the nurses' age ranged between 20-30 with a mean of 28.3 + 5.4, 92 % of them were females; majority of the nurses had unsatisfactory level of total knowledge about EPS and about nursing care after the procedure. Total mean practice scores of critical care nurses regarding EPS was 12.79 + 2.03 out of 24 indicating low total practice level. 55% of the patients underwent electrophysiology study were having severe anxiety level before the procedure of the EPS while, 77.5% of them were having moderate anxiety level after the procedure of the EPS with mean score of (61.36 + 9.8 & 47.8 + 4.2) respectively with significant statistical difference between the two readings. there is a highly significant statistical correlation between critical care nurses' total knowledge scores , critical care nurses' total practice scores and the patient's total anxiety scores before and after the procedure. Recommendations: Specific educational program can be designed and presented to critical care nurses in order to improve their level of knowledge and practice toward EPS and Individualized psychological preparation should become a routine part of patient care before EPS.

Abstract:Spontaneous preterm birth is a multi-factorial process. Low socioeconomic status (SES) considered as one of those factors. It has been associated with an increased risk of preterm birth, although the relationship varies by SES factors and not quiet identifiable. The aims were to assess the Correlation between socio-economic status and spontaneous premature birth design and provided nursing teaching brochure. A cross sectional research-design on purposive sample of  300 women at Women’s Health Hospital, Assuit University. A structure interviewing questionnaire for data collection,  socioeconomic status data scale and the nursing education brochure were used. Results: Sixty percentages of women had a threatened preterm labor, while 40% had inevitable preterm labor. In addition, nearly two thirds of the studied women (65.67%) were in the age group 21-30 years. The results indicate that (75.3%) of the studied women were moderate socioeconomic level. In addition, results showed that the majority of mothers (90.7%) were house wives with a statistically significant difference of gestational age and socioeconomic status at level (P<0.002). There was a statistically significant difference (P<0.05) in both threatened and inevitable preterm birth and household crowding index. Conclusions: There is no an association or relationship between preterm labor and socioeconomic status evidenced with any statistical significant difference. Recommendations: Health education programs should be organized for pregnant women about the causes of preterm birth and risk factors leading to it, and also to the symptoms of premature birth.

Abstract:The main aim of this review was to examine the effects of a continuing patient safety program on reducing malpractice rates and medical errors among registered nursing staff in public hospitals in Australia. The major objective for this study was to carry out a systemic literature search on the topic of study and at the same time synthesise, compare, and contrast research findings from different sources with information related to the subject of study.
Design: This review focused on collecting qualitative evidence from qualitative studies on the effects of a continuing patient safety program on reducing malpractice rates and medical errors among registered nursing staff in public and private hospitals. The MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, Google Scholar and Cochrane Library databases were used to conduct searches for this review. After a thorough search, a total of 6 articles published between 2005 and 2018 were identified as the major studies for review.
Results: Most of the sources revealed that a continuing patient safety program has helped improve medical error reporting in Australia but there was uncertainty on whether patient safety programs reduce malpractice rates and medical errors among registered nurses. However, it is difficult to generalize the findings from the reviewed studies as they differ in terms of patient safety program content, evaluation, and study design.
Conclusion: Generally, this review asserts that patient safety programs play a key role in improving patient safety. However, there is need for more research in order to determine the exact impact of patient safety programs on the reduction of medical errors and malpractice rates in Australia.

Abstract:Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that is common among young females aged 15 to 45 years.  The disease characterized by a relapsing and remitting sequence that is life-threatening and affects patients’ physical and psychological quality of life.  Studies have explored that coping enhance patients’ ability to practice fair physical life, improve psychological wellbeing and show more involvement in the social life.  The aim of this study was to examine the effect of educating SLE patients about different coping strategies on their quality of life.
Methods: A quasi excremental pre and post-test design was used. A convenience sample of 40 patients with SLE were interviewed in a structured interview. Socio-demographic characteristics, a revised version of Coping Strategy Questionnaire, and SLE QOL questionnaire were used to achieve the study aim. Ethical consideration for all participants were guaranteed throughout the study.
Results: Majority of participants were young females,married, have elementary and high school degree, studying and had no family history of SLE.  Diversion, reinterpreting and cognitive coping strategies were more likely to be used among participants and catastrophizing coping was less utilized.  There was noticeable improvement in QOL after conducting the coping strategy educational session.  The used coping strategies reported statistically significant association with physical activity, social/occupational. Emotions/mood and feelings subscales of QOL.
Conclusion and Recommendations:SLE patients can benefit from different coping strategies to better deal with their health condition and improve their QOL. Health care providers should be aware of healthy coping strategies skills to help patients strengthen the use of strategies that improve their QOL. Further research using a larger sample, including both genders and qualitative research strategy are recommended.

Abstract:Life expectancy is increasing all over the world due to the improvement of health care services at all levels.  With this expectation, there are noticeable increase in cases diagnosed with cancer and the burden of cancer will expand five to ten folds in 2030. Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing life-threatening illness. The aim of this study was toinvestigate nurses’ knowledge and attitude towards palliative care.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional designs was used with a convenience sample of 124 nurses who are working in palliative care wards at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, KSA.
Tools of the study: A self-report questionnaire that include sociodemographic, Palliative Care Quiz for Nurses and Formelt Attitude toward care of Dying.  The questionnaire takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete.  Ethical consideration was followed after obtaining approval from King Abdullah International Medical Research Center and Nursing Services at King Abdulaziz Medical City.  
Results:Sixty three percent of the nurses showed good and 17% fair knowledge of palliative care. 46% reported positive attitude toward palliative care and 24% were neutral. Education and working unit presented significant association with knowledge and working unit showed association with attitude toward palliative care. 
Conclusion andRecommendation: As the need for this special area of nursing increase, nurses’ knowledge and attitude toward palliative care needs more investigation. Integration of comprehensive explanation of palliative care in nursing curriculum is needed. Ongoing in-services training for improvement nurses’ knowledge and attitude is also crucial to provide optimal care to patients and their families in this critical period of their life.

Abstract:Infertility treatment results in a significant psychological burden and negative impact on emotional well-being. Aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect ofpreparation program on reducing anxiety level among women undergoing assisted reproductive treatment process. Design: A non equivalent one group pretest-posttest quasi experimental research design was adopted for this study. Sample.  A purposive   sample of 50 infertile women undergoing assisted reproductive treatment procedures were recruited according to certain inclusion criteria: Setting: The study was conducted at Ganah Hospital at El Mohandeseen, Cairo, Egypt .Tools: Three tools were used to collect the data; 1) Structured interviewing questionnaire tool, 2) State trait anxiety inventory (STAI) scale and 3) preparation program process tool. Results: Findings of the current study revealed that the mean age of study sample was 30.1±7.3 years, 72% of study sample had primary infertility, while 28% had secondary infertility and the mean duration of infertility was 3.99±2.68 years.  There was statistical significant differences between levels of anxiety mean score before and after preparation program (48.2±10.7 Vs 43.7±11.9,p= <0.05).  Also, there was a statistical significant differences in the mean total knowledge score of ART process before and after the program (16.56±6.33 Vs 27.76±3.68, p <0.01). A significant correlation was found between the pretest state anxiety score and regularity of menstrual period (r= 0.312, p= 0.027) as well as, significant correlation between the pretest –posttest total knowledge score and women's level of education and income (r=-0.516, 0.342 at p= 0.000, 0.015 respectively). Conclusion and recommendation: implementation of the preparation program about ART process significantly improves the knowledge level and reduces the anxiety level of the infertile women Recommendation: Conducting a periodic educational training program for nurses who are working at ART units to raise their awareness about their roles when dealing with Infertile Women.

Abstract:Pain is a major public health issue among community-dwelling older adults. In addition to being strongly associated with reduced physical function, loss of independence, psychological distress, lower quality of life, and risk of earlier death. Recent research has also found that pain in older adults is associated with a higher risk of falls, which itself is another major health concern. Long-term and high-intensity pain are predictors of chronic pain and pain-related disability. Therefore, establishing an evidence-based intervention that can reduce both pain and falls in older adults is of high importance. Infographics or information graphics are easy-to-understand visual representation of knowledge. Healthcare professionals already use infographics to communicate medical information to their patients. A firm grasp of health information enhances patients’ decision making capabilities and may improve the practitioner-patient relationship. Infographics can also be used at the population level for public health messages. An infographic outlining whether the motor control that offers the Otago exercise program will be reduce secondary and the pain in patients older than 60 years old and suffering from low back pain was developed.

Abstract:Parents of children with cancer have high levels of psychological distress. High levels of depression and anxiety after diagnosis reveal many aspects of parents’ health. Aim:This study aimed to identify factors associated with a higher risk of psychological distress among parents with children receiving chemotherapy. Methods: Descriptive design was used to accomplish this study. The subjects consisted of a convenience sample of 100 parents of cancer children. Tools of data collection included,a socio- demographic and clinical data structured interview schedule and the Arabic short version of the standardized depression- anxiety, stress scale-21 items.  Results: The majority of the studied parents suffer an extremely severe level of  depression, anxiety and stress. Conclusion: The results revealed that psychological distress increased among parents with low family income, had not safe sewage disposal, not covered by health insurance, had children in the first stage of cancer, who took many hours to arrive to the hospital, waiting time more than two hours and alopecia as a side effect of the treatment.

Abstract:Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorders in children. It is clinically characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. These symptoms often continue into adulthood and may lead to an increase of family conflict, poor occupational performance and academic failures throughout adult life. Aim: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of evidence based practices guidelines intervention on daily living problems of children suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and their mothers' stressors.This aim achieved through; assessing daily living problems of children suffering from ADHD, assessing mothers' knowledge regarding ADHD and their daily stressors experienced by them as a result of having children with ADHD, implementing and disseminating evidence based practices guidelines regarding ADHD for mothers to overcome daily living problems of their children suffering from ADHD and alleviate the mothers' daily stressors.Design:A quasi-experimental study was utilized.Setting: This study was conducted at Children Out- patient Clinic at the Psychiatric Medical Center affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals.  Sample: The study involved a purposive sample of 40 school age children with ADHD and their accompanying mothers. Tools:1. Pre-designed Questionnaire Format; to assesscharacteristics of the studied mothers & their children and assess mothers' knowledge regarding ADHD. 2. Connors Parent Questionnaireto assess features of emotional distress, aggressive behaviors, academic difficulties, hyperactivity and impulsivity (daily problems) of children suffering from ADHD as reported by their mothers. 3. Vanderbilt Parent Assessment Scaleto assess level of impairment of children with ADHD through their mothers. 4. Disruptive Behavior Stress Inventory to assess mothers' potential stressors experienced as a result of having a child who displays behavioral difficulties. Results of the current study revealed that   there was improvement in the total mean score of satisfactory mothers' knowledge regarding ADHD post guidelines intervention. Also, there was improvement in total mean score of children's daily living problems as reported by their mothers post guidelines intervention. Conclusion: Evidence based practices guidelines intervention has a positive effect on daily living problems of children suffering from ADHD, alleviate mothers' daily stressors and psychological constraints as a result of having child with ADHD. This study recommended that evidence based practices guidelinescan be applied more widely for all mothers having children with ADHD as one of the nursing interventions aiming to overcome daily living problems of their children and alleviate level of mothers' stress.

Abstract:Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is the most common form of non-invasive respiratory support applied to preterm infants and is a standard of care. Aim of the study was to evaluate the training clinical positioning guidelines on physiological parameters of premature infants undergoing Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. Design: A quasi - experimental research design. Setting: The study was carried out at Neonatal Intensive Care Units affiliated toBenha specialized hospital of children at Benha city. Sample: .A convenient sample of 50 nurses working at the study setting and a purposive sample of 50 neonates who undergoing CPAP.Tools: Three instruments were utilized to collect data; A structured interviewing questionnaire sheet, an observational assessment checklists. Results: this study revealed that, nursing intervention in the form of body positioning guidelines improved medical outcomes of preterm infants who placed on CPAP on post program phase compared with pre program phase. Conclusion: preterm infants who exposed to the intervention program in the form of body positioning had better mean scores in relation to their medical outcomes post program compared with preprogram intervention. . Recommendation, Program intervention in the form of body positioning should be integrated as a part of routine daily care of infants with nasal continuous positive airway pressure

Abstract:Protein C deficiency is one of the major inhibitors of the coagulation system and associated with an increased risk of venous thrombosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the intervention study for nurse's performance regarding care of infants with protein C deficiency.A quasi-experimental design was used. This study was carried out at Benha specialized hospital of for Children affiliated to Ministry of Health.A convenient sample included all nurses (50), who are working at Benha Specialized Hospital the Children.Tools of data collection: Two tools were used; Tool I: A structured interviewing questionnaire, which consists of four parts:Part (1 ) Nurses' characteristics,Part (2): Nurses' knowledge about Protein C deficiency (PCD),Part (3): Nurses` knowledge regarding Protein C and its function,Part (4): Nurses` knowledge regarding management,Tool II: Nurses' practice sheet.Results indicated  a highly statistically significant difference observed between the studied nurses total knowledge and practice regarding Protein C deficiency at pre and post of the intervention  implementation P= (<0.001)..This study concluded that: after implementation intervention study of the nurses had satisfactory knowledge and competent practice, than before implementation regarding protein C deficiency for children. The study recommended that: future studies should emphasis on nurses' experience and management would enhance the current state of the science and provide a much-needed window into interventions aimed to improving the medical outcomes for children with protein C deficiency.

Abstract:Symptomatic knee osteoarthritis is the most common chronic joint disease in the world, that lead to chronic pain and disability (Postler, et al, 2018). Egyptian patients with primary knee osteoarthritis have relatively poor health related quality of life; that manifested mainly by pain. Disease duration and affection of both knees considered indictors for lower scores of all quality domains, and knee stiffness(Mahmoud, Moghazy, Fathy, and Niazy, 2018).Aims, this study aimed to examine the effect of designed nursing intervention protocol on outcomes of patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Research design: A quasi experimentalresearch design was used to conduct this study.Research Setting: This study was conducted at orthopedic clinic of New Emergency Hospital (El Demerdash Hospital) affiliated to Ain Shams University, Cairo. Subjects: A Purposive sample of 50 patients diagnosed as symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Tools: I. An Interviewing questionnaire it was consisted of. patient demographic characteristic, medical history, Patient with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis knowledge, and healthpractices. II: Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS): It was adopted from Roos; et al., 1998. It was used to assess knee osteoarthritis outcomes.Results:This study revealed that, the age of 38% of the study subjects were between 50 to 60 years with mean age 47.52 ± 8.08, and 55% were females. There washighly statistically significant difference between patients' knowledge and health practices regarding osteoarthritis management pre/post implementation of the nursing intervention protocol, while there was no statistically significant difference between patients' Osteoarthritis Outcome Score pre/post implementation, although there was marked improvement post implementation. Conclusion: Implementation of designed nursing intervention protocol had a positive effect on improving patients’ level of knowledge and health practicesregarding osteoarthritis and markedly improving patient's outcomes. Recommendations: Conducting comprehensive health education programs for patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis in outpatient's clinics with simple printed guidelines in booklets, leaflets or brochures explaining how tomanage the disease problems andapplication ofsimilar studies to assess the needs and factors affecting such group of patients.

Abstract:Over 50% of hemodialysis patients experience psychological problems. Evidence is emerging that depression and poor self-efficacy are very common in patients with hemodialysis which affect the patient's life. Aim of the study: This study aimed to assess the levels of depression and self-efficacy among hemodialysis patients and investigate the relation between them .Sample: The study sample consisted of 100 hemodialysis patients who are chosen by convenience sampling.Setting: Hemodialysis unit, at Benha University Hospital in Benha city, Qaliubiya Governorate. Research design: A descriptive correlational design was utilized Tools: Three tools were used: I) Socio-demographic and clinical characteristics structured interview schedule. II) Beck Depression Scale and III) General Self-efficacy Scale. Results: The results of the present study revealed that, more than one third of the studied patients have moderate depression, one third of the patients have low level of self-efficacy, and also there was a highly statistically negative correlation between depression and self-efficacy among studied patients. Conclusion: Patients who are undergoing hemodialysis are more prone to have psychological problems such as depression and low self-efficacy and patients who have depression are more likely to have low self-efficacy. Recommendations: Early psychological screening and assessment of the self-efficacy and depression of patients receiving hemodialysis should be an essential part of nursing practice,

Abstract:Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is the most common health hazard of neonates which have toxic effects on the brain and cause serious complications Nurses’ apply the bilirubin induced neurological dysfunction tool for early detection of neurological dysfunction have decrease incidence of neurological dysfunction among neonate having hyperbilirubinemia.Aim of the study was to enhance nurse's’ performance regarding early detection of neurological dysfunction among neonates having hyper-bilirubinemia.Research design: A quasi experimental study was utilized.Research settings the study was conducted in neonatal intensive care units at Benha University Hospitals and Specialized Children Hospital in Benha City. subjects: (50) nurses who work in the previous mentioned settings and (100) neonates were selected Tools of data collection 1^sttool Interview questionnaire sheets were used to collect the participants' characteristic data and knowledge of the studied nurse regarding hyperbilirubinemia, 2^nd tool: observational checklist about Bilirubin- induced neurological dysfunction tool to assess nurses’ performance for early detection of neurological dysfunction. Results: The present study indicated that nurses’ knowledge about hyperbilirubinemia and application of bilirubin induced neurological dysfunction tool. In pretest was unsatisfactory but their knowledge in posttest improved after provision of instructional guidelines and there was a statistically significant difference between mean scores of nurses’ skills before and after application of instructional guidelines about application of bilirubin induced neurological dysfunction tool. Recommendation: It was recommended that, neonatal intensive care units should provide training courses for nurses about hyperbilirubinemia and application of bilirubin induced neurological dysfunction tool and adequate supervision and follow up.

Abstract:Team-Based Learning strategy is one of the innovative teaching strategies that is used in undergraduate nursing education to help students learn how to apply knowledge effectively in a variety of clinical situations. Purposes: this study aimed is to determine the effect of Team-Based Learning strategy on the group engagement, knowledge and clinical performance among pediatric nursing students. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. Setting: This study was conducted at the skills laboratories of Pediatric Nursing Department at the Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University. Subject: The subjects of this study comprised 72 nursing students enrolled in Pediatric Nursing Course. Tools: Four tools were used: Knowledge Test, Colostomy Care Observational Checklist, Group Engagement Questionnaire and TBL Feedback Questionnaire. Results: This study revealed that there were highly statistically significant differences between the study and control groups in relation to their group engagement, knowledge, and performance of colostomy care procedure immediately after and after 4 weeks of applying TBL (p<0.001* and <0.001* respectively). Conclusion: TBL is a valuable teaching strategy. It played a crucial role in enhancing pediatric nursing students' group engagement, knowledge and clinical performance of colostomy care procedure. Recommendation: Educational workshops should be conducted to all nurse educators to raise their awareness about the TBL strategy.

Abstract:Typhoid and paratyphoid fevers is an acute infectious disease with similar clinical features and characterizes by lesion of Payer’s patches, bacteremia, severe intoxication, enlarged liver and spleen. Aim: The study aimed to assessthe quality of life for patients with typhoid and paratyphoid fever in outpatient clinic at Elmina fever hospital. Design: Descriptive research design was used in this study. Sample: Purposive sample includes 362 patients diagnosed with typhoid and paratyphoid. Setting: Outpatient clinics in El-Minya fever hospital. Tools: 2 tool used (1)Interview questionnaire sheet include demographic characteristic, past and present history of typhoid and paratyphoid, (2)Quality of Life Scale (QOL) sheet. Results:The study results revealed that 56.1% of studied sample were poor in dietary habits and hygienic measures. Also, 74.3% of studied sample had unsatisfactory level of knowledge about typhoid and paratyphoid fever disease and 59.7% of studied sample had low level of total quality of life. Conclusion:Most of study sample had low quality of life because they had poor dietary habits and poor hygienic measures which lead to exposure to typhoid and paratyphoid feverthe majority of them had unsatisfactory level of knowledge about typhoid and paratyphoid fever disease. Recommendations: Developing health educational programs that would help patients to improve their quality of life

Abstract:Primary prevention program of viral hepatitis B & C is a vital element in controlling the spread of the disease between nursing staff. The aim : assesstheeffect of Primary prevention for Infection with Hepatitis B & C on Nurses’ Knowledge and practices.The research design: Quasi experimental study was utilized for current study. Setting The study was conducted in medical, surgical ward and intensive care unit in national liver institute and medical wards in menofia university hospital in Shebin El-Kom City. Sample convenient sample consist of 117 nurses were recruited for the study. Tools: two tools used to collect data , an interview questionnaire sheet to assess   demographic characteristics data about nurses, assessing the nurses knowledge about HBV &HCV and Observational checklist used to Part I: evaluates nurses' practices before, after and follow up of application of primary prevention, Part II: used  to evaluate infection control in hospital. Results: Revealed a statistical significant relation between nurse knowledge and practices regarding to  preventive measures of viral hepatitis B&C preprogram, post program and follow up and also there was a statistical significant relation between nurse total knowledge and total practices regarding to viral hepatitis B&C Conclusion: This study concluded that, nurses' knowledge and practices regarding to preventive measures of viral hepatitis B&C improved after implementation of primary prevention program Recommendation: The study recommended that adequate education for nurses about the effect of the disease on their quality of life and infection control practices inside hospital, periodic training program for nurses related to blood borne diseases especially viral hepatitis B& C. Hospital should have a role to control infection with hepatitis B&C virus through availability of hepatitis B vaccine and infection control supplies, solutions and equipment.

Abstract:Neurocognitive functions are essential mental processes that help the person to perceive the world accurately and to respond effectively. These functions are altered in schizophrenia patients and are thought to precede the emergence of positive symptoms. On the other hand, university students are considered as normal healthy controls who have many challenges that may alter their neurocognitive functions and academic achievement. The study of neurocognition is important in nursing since they are both linked to human behavior in health and illness. Thus, this study had three aims. First, to determine the difference between patients with schizophrenia and a healthy control group regarding the neurocognitive functions in order to provide base line data on Egyptian population. Second, to explore the effect of the Attention Retraining Intervention on patients' neurocognitive functions.Third, to explore whether Attention Retraining Intervention can enhance neurocognitive functions of patients with schizophrenia as well as of Egyptians healthy controls. The study used four tools namely; Socio-demographic and clinical data questionnaire, The Rey Auditory-Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT), Trail Making Test (TMT), and The Executive Clock-Drawing Task (Royall’s CLOX). Sixty patients and sixty students were matched regarding age, marital status, residence, and level of education. Each subject was randomly assigned to one of two groups, either study or control. The study thus followed a randomized control trial research design. The result of the study revealed that the performance of the studied healthy controls was good on attention, moderate on memory and low on executive function. There is a statistically significant increase in neurocognitive functions between patients' pre and post implementation of the Attention Retraining Intervention on the three neurocognitive functions. Additionally, there is a statistically significant increase in neurocognitive functions in post implementation of the Attention Retraining Intervention in the healthy control group. Although the healthy controls have higher means on the three neurocognitive functions than patients, the range of improvement observed on the patients (in terms of the observed difference in the three neurocognitive means, between pre and post implementation) is higher than that observed on healthy controls. Furthermore, it appears that the attention retraining intervention was successful in improving the studied patients' mean on recognition task (which is one task on the memory test, i.e., RAVLT) up to the level of studied healthy controls. Thus, it can be concluded that in Egypt, patients with schizophrenia are more impaired on neurocognitive functions than healthy controls on baseline data. The Attention Retraining Intervention proved to be efficient in improving neurocognitive functions for both the studied patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls.

Abstract:Uterine fibroid (Leiomyomas)   is the most common benign gynecological tumors affecting as many as 25% of women in the reproductive age.Aim: The aim of the current study is to explore the predictors that might affect on the occurrence of uterine fibroid among women at reproductive age. Subject and methods: A descriptive explatory research design was adopted in this study.Setting: The study was conducted in inpatient and outpatient gynecological clinic at El Manial Maternity Hospital.Sample: A non-probability Convenience sample of 120 gynecological women were diagnosed as uterine fibroid and were chosen based on certain inclusion criteria.Tool: Interviewing questionnaire schedule was used to collect the needed data.Results: revealed that high BMI (P= 0.02); Eating fatty saturated diet (0.031); drinking caffeinated beverage (0.001) ; past history of hypertension (p= <0.05); high lipid profile (p= 0.010) and family history of uterine fibroids (P=0.04) ; age at menarche (P= <0.05) ; age at onset of fibroid (P= < 0.05)  ; parity (< 0.05), and use of hormonal contraceptive methods (p= ; 0.040)  all of these factors affect the occurrence of  uterine fibroid. Conclusion: The study concluded that, women with the following risk factors might be at risk for the occurrence of uterine fibroid.  Recommendations: based on the findings of the current study the following are suggested: Raise women’s awareness regarding adopting healthy life style, ideal body mass index, follow dietary program and practice exercising can prevent the occurrence of this problem.

Abstract:Body positioning is one of the general kinds of nursing actions during care for the patients and body position changes have an effect on the optimal transport of blood and oxygen.The aimof this study: To determine the effect of position changes on oxygenation for mechanically ventilated patients.Design: A quasi experimental research design was utilized in the study. Sample : A purposive of 60 adult patients aged 18 years or more from both genders who was admitted during the study period  on mechanical ventilation and newly admitted (less than 3 days from admission to the ICU)were selected. Setting: Data were collected from the medical Intensive Care Unit at Fayoum University Hospital. Tools: Data was collected utilizing two designed tools (1) assessment sheet which includes Socio demographic data for mechanically ventilated patients with lung diseases and health - relevant information (2) Invasive and non-invasive measurements to assess oxygenation leveltwice immediately and after two hours from each position which include ABG and vital signs.The resultsrevealed that, Patients who have received change position protocol have had oxygenation level better than those patients who were on the routine position (fowler position).Conclusion: the implementation of changing position protocol among the study groupaccording to the results of basic assessment has been successful and got an effective significant improvement in oxygenation level for mechanically ventilated patients that had respiratory failure.Recommendation: Change position protocol program should be implemented in ICUs for mechanically ventilated patients with lung disease and replication this study in a large sample and different settings.

Abstract:Burn patients experience severe pain and anxiety despite receiving opioid analgesics. Aim: To evaluate the effect of Benson’s relaxation technique on pain and anxiety levels among burn patients. Research design: quasi experimental research design was applied. Setting: The study was conducted at burn unit of Emergency Hospital, Menoufia University and Shebin Al Kom Teaching Hospital. Sample: Purposive sample of 100 adult burn patients was divided randomly and alternatively into study and control group. Tools: 1-Structured Interview Questionnaire cover sociodemographic and burn data; 2- Visual Analogue Pain Scale.3-Beck Anxiety Inventory. Results: There were highly statistically significant differences on pain and anxiety levels between the study and control groups on the 3rd day and the 5th day post intervention than pre intervention. Conclusion: Implementation of Benson’s relaxation technique was effective in reducing the pain and anxiety levels among burn patients. Recommendations: Applying Benson’s relaxation technique for burn patients in other places with a large sample to enhance and confirm the current study results.

Abstract:Patient’s attitude toward medication and insight into illness arethe main predictors of compliance. An innovative multi-component approach thought to be advantageous in addressing and possibly improving the above mentioned factors is "drug compliance therapy". Objective: To examine the effect of "drug compliance therapy" on compliance, attitude toward medication, and insight among hospitalized patients with psychotic disorders. Setting:The study was conducted at El-Maamoura Hospital for Psychiatric Medicine in Alexandria, Egypt. Subjects: Comprised 80 noncompliant patients. They were divided into two equal groups; a study group and a control one (40 patients each).  Tools: Four tools were used; Psychotic Patients' Socio-demographic and Clinical Data Structured Interview Schedule, Clinician Rating of Compliance Scale (CRCS), Drug Attitude Inventory (DAI-30) and Schedule for Assessment of Insight-Expanded version (SAI-E). Results: Patients in the study group showed significant improvements in their mean scores of the CRCS, DAI-30, and SAI-E following the implementation of drug compliance therapy. Conclusion: Drug compliance therapy can bring significant improvements in the levels of compliance, attitudes, and insight among hospitalized patients with psychotic disorders. Recommendations: Drug compliance therapy should be incorporated into the routine psychiatric clinical practice, psychiatric nurses need to be trained to deliver it in the inpatient and outpatient settings, and further researches are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of this therapy over long-term follow-up periods.

Abstract: Supportive care and childbirth have been connected for all of recorded history. The impact of supportive care on health outcomes, however, has only been investigated over the last few decades. Aim evaluates the effects of intrapartum supportive care on the birth outcome. Subjects and methods; Quasi-experimental design was utilized in Helwan general hospital. A sample of 100 parturient women attended the study setting, were selected, under the inclusion criteria. The tools used for data collection were a structured interview, clinical assessment sheet(Partograph), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for measuring pain intensity, supportive care during labor tool andsummary of labor record Results women in the control group were more likely to use oxytocin augmentation compared to the supportive group that women in the supportive care group were increased mean of cervical dilatation during labor, compared to the control group, with statistical significant differences. The progress was more evident in the supportive group in comparison to the control group during labor. The higher mean intensity of pain was noticed among the control group in comparison with the other group with statistical significant differences. Women in the supportive care group shows the least total mean duration of labor in comparison with the control group, the difference observed is statistically significant. Women in supportive care group had the highest mean Apgar score at the first and fifth minute (9.1±1.1 vs. 7.7±1.1 respectively), with statistical significant difference Conclusion and Recommendations; parturient women should be accompanied by people she trusts and with whom she feels at ease , simple illustrative booklets and pamphlets about supportive care during labor in Arabic language should be prepared and made.

Abstract:The link between food consumption and psychological wellbeing seems more complex than the direct relationship of hunger and eating. Over the last four decades, this bidirectional relationship gains continuously research and debate importance. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to further enhance understanding, regarding the impact of  mindfulness of general eating behaviour. In order to extend relevant  knowledge various factors, such as mindful eating, food addiction, emotional eating, BMI, gender, and age, were integrated and explored through both correlation and regression analyses. Eighty-six participants (M = 30.) completed three self-reported questionnaires regarding their eating habits and patterns, as well as their ability to mindfully reflect on their eating practice. As hypothesized, a  significant negative correlation between emotional and mindful eating was  identified, while mindful eating was found to have a significant influence on BMI scores. Mindful eating did not, however, influence food addiction behavior; this was more likely to be influenced by emotional eating tendencies. Overall, findings provide evidence that mindful eating can impact on both clinical practice and research, in regards to understanding eating behaviour and food addiction.

Abstract:Blood transfusion complications are common in patients receiving blood transfusion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of applying nursing intervention program on reducing complications of blood transfusion. The study was conducted in medical departments of Fayoum University Hospitals. three tools were used for data collection;(1) patient interview assessment questionnaire.(2)Patient progress notes and (3) Assessment of blood transfusion complications  .The results of this study indicated that large number of patient in both study and control groups aged between (25:40 yeas) for study group and between (40:60 years) for control group, majority of them were males, and were blood group A and RH positive, liver cirrhosis is the most common medical diagnosis, and majority of patient have red blood cells transfusion, majority of reaction occur after 30 minute of transfusion and after end of transfusion. The study concluded Results of the present study were successful in obtaining the hypothesis, in which there was highly statistical significance decrease in the incidence of blood transfusion complications among study group in comparing to control groups.The study recommended that application of developed nursing intervention program for blood transfusion in the similar sitting and medical units. The study should be replicated using a strong randomize control of clinical trial with blind assessment of the outcome for more evidence of its positive impact.

Abstract: The study aimed to determine the effect of nursing management protocol for dengue fever patients on their awareness, activities daily living and health outcomes. It was conducted at Qena Tropical Medicine Hospital. . Convenience samples comprised of 60 adult patients from both sex and were confirmed with dengue fever.  Three instruments were used in this study. Tool 1: Basic data interview schedule it includes (socio-demographic data, medical history information and Patients' awareness assessment) Tool 2: Activity of daily living according to fever (The Barthel Index) Tool 3: it includes (patients' complaints assessment, vital signs assessment and laboratory investigations assessment .Nursing management protocol which include educational part and therapeutic clinical management(supportive care and fluid volume replacement) in addition to diet regimen Results/conclusion: The study findings revealed that mean ages for study and control group was 34.02 ± 10.77 and33.95 ± 10.48. According to knowledge assessment there was a significant difference between the study and control group pre and post implementation of the nursing protocol (P= <0.001), Also, there was statistically significant difference in related to post period as regard mobility, dressing, Bathing, transfer, bowels, bladder and total score of activity daily living related to fever (p= <0.001, 0.023, <0.001, <0.001, 0.001, 0.002, and 0.031). As regard laboratory investigations assessment related to post period were significant difference RNA-PCR,  platelets count, WBCs , coagulation time/second  and tourniquet test (P =  0.001, 0.035, <0.001, <0.001 and 0.083 ) respectively. Recommendations: Establish therapeutic clinical management with diet regimen. Therapeutic management depends on fluid replacement, control fever, and prevent using of antibiotic and NSAID.

Abstract:Traditional oral exam has been commonly used in several nursing universities as one of the assessment method. This method mightnot be appropriate for the assessment of student’s interactive skills and higher cognitive functions and also it might have some biased grading of the students, lack of standardization in time allocated for each student, the examiner might focus on specific topics not all which will lead to students' tension. These difficulties can be solved by using structured oral exam to make it more valid assessment tool. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effect of structured VS traditional oral exam on critical care nursing students' performance. Methods: A quasi experimental research design was used in this study in which two tools were used for data collection: “Oral Exam Performance Rubric” and “Students’ Satisfaction Questionnaire ". The subjects were comprised of 60 critical care nursing students. Results: It was noticed that there were statistical significant differences between study and control groups in the mean scores regarding total score in their oral exam achievement and their satisfaction with the oral exam (P= 0.002, P= 0.001), respectively. Conclusion: Structured oral exam is found to be effective assessment method. It plays an important role in improving nursing students’ oral exam performance and it provides the students with more satisfying exam experience. Recommendations: An important issue that needs to be considered in future research while applying structured oral exam is the time limitation. Each station should have enough time and enough number of examiners.

Abstract:High risk newborn is defined as a newborn, regardless  of gestational age or birth weight, who has a greater-than- average chance of morbidity or mortality, usually because of  conditions or circumstances affect on the normal  course of events associated with birth and the adjustment to  extra uterine existence. Surfactant Replacement Therapy (SRT) is the instillation of surfactant into the trachea of a new born at the risk of developing or already having respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). SRT has become available universally, so neonatal survival improved more in newborn with very low birth weights and associated problems. Aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of instructional guidelines on nurses' performance regarding care of high risk neonates undergoing surfactant replacement therapy. Design: A quasi experimental design was utilized. Setting: This study was conducted at Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) at Maternity and Gynecological Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals and El Galaa Teaching Hospital in Cairo. Subjects: A convenience sample of 50 nurses in NICUs and all neonates (30) admitted to NICUs and received SRT during the period of data collection and application of instructional guidelines were included in the current study. Tools: It included; a) a pre-designed questionnaire and b) observation checklist. Results: there was knowledge deficient as well as incompetent practice among the studied nurses regarding RDS and SRT before application of the instructional guidelines. Implementation of the instructional guidelines led to significant improvements in nurses’ knowledge and practices   regarding care of high risk neonates undergoing surfactant replacement therapy. Conclusion: from the current study findings it can be concluded that, there was knowledge deficient as well as incompetent practice among nurses regarding respiratory distress syndrome and surfactant replacement therapy before application of the instructional guidelines. The research hypothesis is accepted and the implementation of the instructional guidelines led to significant improvements in nurses’ knowledge and practices regarding care of high risk neonates undergoing surfactant replacement therapy.  Recommendations: In-services educational program should be conducted for all nurses working in NICUs about care of high risk neonates undergoing surfactant replacement therapy with using instructional pamphlet and illustrated booklets. 

Abstract:Children with speech disorders frequently experience peers victimization and rejection which make them susceptible for psychosocial disturbances. Aim of the study: This study aimed to assess the impact of speech disorders on introverted behavior among school age children. Subjects and method: a descriptive study design was used to perform this study. It was conducted on a total of 104 speech disordered children attending the Unit of Phoniatrics at both Assiut and Beni-Suef University Hospitals and a control group composed of 80 normal school-age children. Data were collected by utilizing A Structured Interview Questionnaire, Introverted Behavior Scale. Results: The highest percentage of the studied speech disordered children had severe introverted behavior. On the other hand, the highest percentage of the control group subjects had mild introverted behavior. Conclusion: speech disorders affect the psychosocial status of school-age children. Recommendations: Collaboration between phoniatricians and psychiatrists is required to implement a comprehensive treatment programs for psychological disorders of the affected children.

Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the effect of utilization a nursing assessment sheet on nurses' knowledge and performance regarding magnesium sulphate administration to eclampsia mothers. Design: A quasi-experimental design was used. Sample type: Convenience sample was recruited. Setting: The study was conducted at the Labor and Delivery unit in Mansoura University Hospital, Egypt, from the beginning of January until the end of March 2018. Subjects: Forty nurses working in Labour and Delivery unit. Tools: A Structured Interview Schedule: Covers the data related to general characteristics of nurses and knowledge of nurses about magnesium sulphate therapy, Nursing assessment sheet and an  observation checklist for administration of Magnesium Sulphate to mothers, a question to assess the problems faced in utilizing nursing assessment sheet.Results: There was a highly statically significant difference before and after intervention, regarding the total knowledge score, total performance score,total patient's assessment score about MgSO₄ administrationamong the studied sample with improved knowledge, performance, patient's assessment score after intervention (P=0.001).Also, there was a significant relationship between (total knowledge score and total performance score),(total patient's assessment score andtotal knowledge score),(total performance scoresandtotal patient's assessment score)among the studied sample after intervention (P >0.05).There were some problems which were faced by nurses in utilizing nursing assessment sheet as staff shortages, patient overload, and less experience. Conclusion: Utilization a nursing assessment sheet for the magnesium sulphate administration to eclampsia mothers results in improving nurses' knowledge, performance and patient assessment. Therefore, it is recommendedto implement nursing assessment sheet in all clinical settings where MgSO4 therapy is administered.

Abstract:Health care-associated infections (HAI) in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) lead to increase morbidity and mortality rates, long staying in NICU, and increase costs. Therefore the study aimed to evaluate the effect of preventive bundle guidelines application on nurses' knowledge and practice towards HAI in NICU.A quasi-experimental design was used in this study. Setting: the study was carried out in NICU affiliated to Mansoura University Children’s Hospital (MUCHs), Egypt. Subjects: The subjects of this study was comprised of all nurses (53) working in NICU. Tools: data collection tools include a structured questionnaire sheet to assess nurses' knowledge about preventive bundle guidelines for HAI and observational checklist sheet regarding the practice of preventive bundle guidelines of HAI in NICU. Results:  There was a statistically significant difference regarding nurses' knowledge and practice towardsHAI in NICU immediately post and at follow up compared with beforeapplication of preventive bundle guidelines.Conclusions: it concluded that there was an improvement in the nurses' knowledge and practice after preventive bundle guidelines application for HAI prevention and control in the NICU.Recommendations: Continuing education interventions need to be conducted more frequently for nurses with continuous monitoring their feedback to encourage them to follow best practices to prevent and mange HAI in NICU.

Abstract:Prostate cancer patients require satisfying their quality of life` dimensions as the physical, psychological, social and spiritual to overcome health problems that have a serious negative impact on QoL in prostate cancer survivors. Aim: This study was aiming to evaluate the effect of self-care guidelines on quality of life for patients with prostate cancer. Study design: A quasi experimental design was utilized. Subject:  A purposive sample of 100 patients with prostate cancer and divided into two groups (study and control group). Setting: The study was conducted at outpatient`s clinic at Oncology Center that affiliated with Ain Shams University Hospitals, Cairo. Egypt. Data collection tools: 1) Structured Interview Questionnaire for patients with Prostate Cancer, 2) Patients’ self-care practice observational checklists, and 3) Quality of Life Cancer Survivors Questionnaire. Results: The present study revealed that, 52% of the study group and 44% of the control group had low total QoL with no statistically significant differences between two groups pre implementation of self-care guidelines (P>0.05).While, post implementation of self-care guidelines 76% of the study group had high total QoL and 42% of the control group had low total QoL post routine care with a statistically significant differences between them (P<0.001). Conclusion: Application of self-care guidelines had significant positive effect on quality of life dimensions for patients with prostate cancer.Recommendations: Further researches are recommended related to patients' quality of life to evaluate their improvement and prognosis and also, further researches to assess factors affecting on quality of life of patients with prostate cancer.

Abstract:The efficacy of preoperative practice of surgical position for patients undergoing kidney surgeries is, questionable and there is no evidence of its benefit on pain and discomfort. This study aimed to   evaluate the effect of preoperative practice of surgical position on postoperative pain and general comfort in patients undergoing kidney surgeries. A quasi-experimental research design was conducted to meet the aim of the study .The study was conducted in urology department of University hospitals at Menofia governorate, Egypt.  A purposive sample of 80 Subjects admitted for kidney surgeries were selected and randomly allocated into practice group (n=40), and control group (n=40). The practice group were instructed to practice the kidney surgical position 3 times daily for 7 days before surgery. The data gathering instruments were Pain Rating Scale and the Shortened General Comfort Questionnaire SGCQ. The main findings of the study were that, there was statistically significant reduction in low back pain and contralateral shoulder pain in practice group than the control one on postoperative days 1–3 (P < 0.05). The physical domain score on SGCQ was significantly higher in the practice group than in the control group (P < 0.01).The study concluded that preoperative practice of surgical position is effective for reducing postoperative low back pain and contralateral shoulder pain and improving the physical comfort in patients undergoing kidney surgeries.

Abstract:The postpartum period is the period when women adjust physically and psychologically after the delivery of the baby. It is the period after the end of labor during which special attention of a community health nurse is required on the women's and the baby's health.Research Design:a quasi-experimental design was used.The aimof this study was to evaluate the effect of self- care program on postpartum women in rural area. Setting: This study was conducted at family medicine centers affiliated to shesht El- Enaam health unit at El-Behara Governorate and postpartum women's homes. Sampling: purposive sample of 67 postpartum women were included, Primipara and multipara postnatal mothers, during first two weeks from postpartum period, women who delivered normally or by cesarean section and women free from any medical or gynecological disease or disability and their babies free from anomalies. Tools: for data collection three tools were used, 1^st tool: an interviewing questionnaire for the postpartum women includes five parts; Part one: socio-demographic characteristics, Part two: obstetric history, Part three: Postpartum woman's cultures and beliefs about postpartum period, Part four: Postpartum woman's knowledge regarding postpartum self-care, Part five: Postpartum woman's self-care during postpartum period, 2^nd tool: review of infant's growth and development measurements sheet, 3^rd tool: home environmental assessment observational checklist. Results: the current study revealed that less than three quarter of postpartum women had negative total cultures and beliefs regarding postpartum self-care, more than two fifth of postpartum women had satisfactory knowledge toward total postpartum self-care in preprogram implementation while in post program less than three quarter of them had satisfactory knowledge, also majority had inadequate self-care practice in preprogram implementation developed approximately two third in post program. With a highly statistically significant difference between knowledge and self-care practice pre and post program implementationConclusion:self-care program reported remarkable improvement in postpartum women's knowledge and self-care practice toward postpartum self-care in rural areas. Recommendations: applying health education programs about maternal health issues through ministry of health.

Abstract:The safety of undergraduates nursing students today is a key for competent nurses to safe patients tomorrow. Aim of the study: The present study aimed to implement risk management and safety measures’ educational intervention to safe students during their clinical training in the practice settings through improving knowledge and practice related all biomedical risks.Design: A quasi experimental design was applied.Settings: The study was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing and (Medical, General & Emergency Surgery and Oncology Departments) at Tanta University hospitals, Egypt.Sample: (144) students were exposed to the study, with response rate of 65.75% from the tool number of students (219) enrolled in 2^nd year of Nursing Faculty. Tools: Three tools were used for data collection; Tool(I):“Risk Questionnaire Sheet” that consisted of “Socio-demographic Data”, and “Risk Assessment Knowledge”, to asses entitled Medical concepts, Types, Sources, and Levels of risks; Tool (II): “Safety Measures Questionnaire sheet” It was a structured questionnaire aimed to assess students’ knowledge of safety measures. Tool (III): “Observed Clinical Performance Checklist” to observe students' clinical performance related to risk management and safety measures. Results: Students' total knowledge level was good (98.6%) and performance post training, the results proven that (10.4%) of students needed practice, (31.9%) satisfied practice and (57.7%) good practice with statistical significance differences (p=0.00).Conclusion: The risk management and safety measures educational intervention achieved its expected outcome as demonstrated by 98.6 % of good level of total knowledge and good practice for around two third of the undergraduate nursing students on risk management and performance of safety measures post educational intervention. Recommendation: For the current research it was recommended to convert the intervention into a risk management systematic plan used for the safety of all undergraduates nursing students in their clinical practice settings. Moreover for further research, it was recommended that this designed educational intervention and /or future plan to be extend to others nursing faculties.

Abstract:the current study was carried out to evaluate the effect of designed nursing intervention protocol on post arteriovenous fistula complications and maturation; Design: quasi experimental design. Setting: The study was carried out at vascular outpatient's clinic, vascular unit of general surgery department and hemodialysis unit, Menoufia university hospitals, subjects: purposive sample of 100 patients with end stage renal disease included in the study. Tools :(I) Arteriovenous Fistula Patients Needs Assessment: comprised of three parts: 1) Socio- Demographic and medical data, 2) Arteriovenous Fistula Knowledge Assessment Sheet, 3) questionnaire sheet about patient's Compliance to self-care practices. Tool II: Observational checklist sheet that consisted of two parts, part one: concerning to dressing change, hand compression exercise, and thrill palpation. Part two: observing complications. Results: the mean knowledge scores about arteriovenous fistula among study group had significantly increased than control group. The mean practice scores among study group was higher than control group. Study group had significantly improved compliance to self- care practices than control group. study group had lower incidence of complications than control group as well time for fistula maturation was shorter among study group than control group. Conclusion: a designed nursing intervention protocol have a positive effect in reduction and prevention of complications as well acceleration of maturation. Recommendations: application of designed nursing intervention protocol as a routine hospital care is important

Abstract:Improving quality of sleep and elevating perception of quality of work life can enhance staff morale level and increase productivity that positively influence health outcomes leading to organizational success. Aim: the current study aimed to assess quality of work life and it's effect on quality of sleep among staff nurses through; determining quality of work life perception among staff nurses, assessing quality of sleep among staff nurses, and determining the relationship between quality of work life and quality of sleep among staff nurses. Research design: a descriptive correlational design was used in this study. Setting: the study was conducted at Ain shams university hospital in critical care units. Sample convenient sample included 93 staff nurses who were available in predetermined setting during the time of data collection and agreed to participate in this study. Data collection tools: data was collected using two tools: quality of work life questionnaire and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). Results: the current study revealed that more than three quarter 76% of staff nurses had high perception level of their quality of work life and overall quality of sleep to be favorable 32,8% and unfavorable in 77.2% of the studied staff nurses and there is a positive relation between different dimensions of quality of work life and sleep quality. Conclusion: Correlational analysis found that quality of work life was associated with quality of sleep.Recommendation: Manager should conduct regular social meeting with staff nurses to express their feeling openly and provide them with sufficient support, extensive training should be implemented to enhance the quality of work life and sleep for nurses, and similar research studies should be conducted in different clinical setting.

Abstract:The present study investigated the level of anxiety and depressive symptoms for women with previous perinatal loss during present pregnancy. Descriptive correlational cross -sectional design was used to achieve this purpose. The participants included one hundred pregnant women who attended Maternal and Child health centers participated in the study. Three instruments were used throughout the course of this study. They included an interviewing questionnaire, a perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale, and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Thefindings of the study revealed that allthe pregnant women with previous perinatal loss of the study participants have anxiety and depressive symptoms ranging from mild to severe during the present pregnancy. There is no relationship between the history of previous pregnancy and the anxiety symptoms. There is also a significant positive relationship between the number of the previous pregnancy and depressive symptomduring the present pregnancy. In conclusion, the present study findings succeeded in answering all study questions. It is recommended that, family involvement can help the women to come out of any distress.

Abstract:Nursing students’ perception and experiences is the method of measuring effective clinical instructors’ characteristics in nursing education. Evidence suggests that student could be a reliable and valid effective teaching indicator. The aim of this study was to assess nursing students' perceptions toward clinical instructors' behaviors and its effect on  students self confidence Sample: stratified random  sample composed of 456 nursing students out of 604 were included in this study. Method: This study wasdescriptive cross sectional study. Tools:one tool was used in this study namely clinical instructor behavior revised survey and student's self confidenceit classified into two parts,Part one: used wasto assess demographic characteristics of the studied sample; Part two was used to assess perception of nursing students regarding clinical instructor behavior and its effect on self confidence. Conclusion: It is concluded that factor analysis of these behaviors revealed six dimensions of clinical teaching that characterized the instructor as: encourager, evaluator, discourager, enabler, benevolent presence, and resource. All behaviors contributing to the dimensions of clinical instructor were rated by students as helpful in their development of self-confidence with the exception of instructor as discourager.Recommendations: The study was recommended that Workshops should be implemented to discuss the importance of self confidence of the nursing student and the instructor behaviors that facilitate it and further studies should be done to determine the clinical instructor's perception of behaviors that affect nursing student self-confidence.

Abstract:Caregivers of patient with dementia face many problems as, stress, anxiety and high level of burdens related to caregiving .The permanent burdens of caregiving is likely to generate negative expressed emotion toward the patient. Aim: to evaluate the effect of expressed emotion management program on caregivers burdens of patients with dementia. Study design: a quasi-experimental design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: this study was conducted in the neuropsychiatric clinic at Beni-suef psychiatric hospital. Subject: convenient sample of 50 family caregiver's was chosen for conducting this study. Data collection tools: 1) Socio-demographic questionnaire for patients with dementia and their family caregiver's. 2) Expressed emotions scale. 3) Zarit burden scale .Results: the present study revealed that there was a highly statistically significant improvement regarding family caregivers expressed emotion and burdens scores post implementation of expressed emotion management program. In addition, there were highly statistically significant positive correlations between caregiver's total expressed emotion and total burdens score under the study pre, post and follow up implementation of expressed emotion management program. Conclusion: the implementation of expressed emotion management program has a statistically significant positive effect on caregiver's burdens of patient with dementia. Recommendations: Designing a systematically continuous family intervention programs in psychiatric hospitals to provide proper information and psychological support that help the family caregivers handle difficult thoughts and emotions, reduce negative expressed emotion and reduce sense of burdens.

Abstract:Quality of life refers to the patient's ability to enjoy normal life activities, the nature of the home and the environment surrounding can affect the shape of life, carried out by the elderly with heart disease. Aim of the Study: was to assess the effect of safe home environment on QOL of elderly with CVD in rural area. Design: a descriptive, analytic design was used. Setting, the study was conducted at Fayoum villages (Arabs - Damu - Hadaqa - Mandara) Sample: A convenient sample was used in this study. The number of elderly with cardiac diseases was 130. Tools: 1) An interviewing questionnaire, 2) An observational checklist to assess safety environment,3) Medical record review and 4) the Arabic WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Results: the mean age of elderly was 71±8.60. A total quality of life of the elderly with cardiac diseases is unsatisfactory. There was highly significant relation between home environment and health related quality of life. Conclusions: The heart conditions score were statistically significant higher among elderly with poor physical status (p value <0.05), and show unsignificant differences of quality of life as regards (physical, household, social, psychological, and spiritual status), and home environment.The study show that total quality of life were significant differences among cardiac diseases of elderly with moderate satisfactory heart condition (p value<0.05.Recommendations: organization of health educational programs for elderly and other health care providers in rural area focusing on how to improve the home environment, effective-manage daily living, and more quality of life coping .

Abstract:While only 10-15% is the appropriate rate of cesarean delivery based on the World Health Organization; cesarean birth has become the prevalent mode of delivery in Egypt; understanding the women's attitude and preference toward certain method of delivery is essential to avoid the undesirable consequences of cesarean birth. Aim:  To explore the attitudes of the Egyptian pregnant women toward modes of delivery and identify the reasons of preferring cesarean or vaginal birth.Design: descriptive correlational research design was utilized. Sample: a convenient sample of 200 pregnant women 100 from private maternity hospital and 100 from antenatal clinic at El Manial Maternity Hospital, Cairo University Hospitals were recruited. Tools: women had interviewed using a structured interview questionnaire Results: 65.5% of women reported cesarean birth as their preferred method of delivery. labor pain, avoidance of labor position and frequent vaginal examination, as most of relatives and friends, to avoid episiotomy, CS is more safe and has less incidence of complications and vaginal delivery affect interest in sexual relation 67.9%, 54.2%, 52.7%, 45.8%, 45% and 42.7% respectively were reported as reasons for selecting CS as preferred method of delivery. Age, place of data collection, place of residence, financial level, mother's and husband's education were found to be correlated to preference of certain method for delivery (p ≤.05). Conclusion: pain and lack of autonomy and privacy in vaginal delivery were the most common reasons reported by the Egyptian women to prefer cesarean birth. Recommendation: Increase awareness regarding the beneficence of normal vaginal delivery and consequences of cesarean birth, educate pregnant mothers about available pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures to reduce labor pain during prenatal classes, advocate the laboring woman's rights in privacy and refusing or accepting any kind of care are recommended to improve the attitude of Egyptian women toward vaginal delivery decision.

Abstract:Work stress, which is common in the nursing profession, has been associated with negative outcomes for both nurses and patients. Moreover, limited studies have focused on work stress and job performance among scrub nurses in the operating room (OR).
Aim: The aim of this study was to assess levels of work stress and job performance of OR nurses.
Methods: A descriptive correlational design was used to examine the association between work stress and demographic characteristics and their effect on job performance.  A convenience sample of 124 scrub nurses recruited from two governmental hospitals completed three questionnaires that measured sociodemographic variables, work stress, and job performance.
Result: High levels of stress among OR nurses, good levels of job performance, and a negative correlation (r= -.23, p=.05) between work stress levels and job performance were found. The result of this study also indicated strong relationships between work stress and nurse’ age, years of experience, and nationality.
Conclusion: Work stress is high among OR nurses and may adversely affect their job performance. Moreover, demographic variables were found to be strongly related to work stress, which need to be considered when evaluating quality of nursing care.

Abstract:family planning is very dangerous for the world because high fertility is associated with poor women’s health and high maternal mortality. Aim was used for Assessment of Women satisfaction regarding Family Planning services in Ismailia CityDesign descriptive deign. Setting: the study was conducted at family planning clinic in Health center at Ismailia city. Sample: Purposive consisted of (371) women. Tools: Two tools were used. First tool interviewing questionnaire consisted: of Socio demographic characteristics of subjects and contraceptive history Second tool: Satisfaction of the offered family planning services. Results: Satisfaction questionnaire about of offered family planning 61.7% of studied women fairly satisfied about Waiting time and 75.7% fairly satisfied about Interview technique while the 89.8% of studied sample good satisfied about information given and the experience and knowledge of the medical team, 87.1% of studied women good satisfied about tools availability and Cleanliness of the place and 86.0%of studied sample good satisfied about impression beneficiary. Conclusion: Most of women have good Satisfaction of the offered family planning services. Recommendations: Training of family planning providers in relation to counseling and replicate the study on large sample size and other setting in Egypt.

Abstract:Cryotherapy is a method of pain treatment which uses a method of localized low temperatures to decrease nerve irritation, injures and swelling in both soft tissue injury and postoperative swelling and controlling edema. This study aimed to determine the impact of cryotherapy on pain, eyelid oedema and facial ecchymosis after craniotomy among neurosurgical patients. Design: a quasi-experimental research design was used. Setting; the current study was conducted in inpatient neurological Department of Menoufia University Hospital. Subjects included 160 patients from the above mentioned setting, they divided into two equal groups; the study group (I) had received cryotherapy management, and the control group (II) received routine hospital care. Tools: 3 tools were used for data collection. Tool I: included two parts:  Demographic characteristics and medical data. Tool II: Visual Analogue Pain Scale. Tool III:  Five point rating scale to assess eye lid oedema and facial ecchymosis. Results: There was highly statistically significant difference in pain level between the study group and the control group. Also, there was statistically significant decrease in eyelid oedema and facial ecchymosis in the study group than the control group. Conclusion: The study concluded that Pain score, degree of eyelid oedema and ecchymosis were significantly decreased among the study group than the control group so the study recommended that cryotherapy should be done for all patients after craniotomy to reduce pain, eyelid oedema and facial ecchymosis.

Abstract:University students are vulnerable to Internet addiction. Influences of cognitions based on the health belief model affecting students’ internet addiction, which it is a psychological model that attempts to explain and predict health behaviors. This is done by focusing on the attitudes and beliefs of individuals. Aim: to determine the effect of health belief model application on internet addiction among Menofia University students. Design: Quasi experimental design with pre and post-test was utilized.Setting: This study was conducted at four faculties from both scientific and literary faculties in Menofia University.Subjects: Multistage random sample consisted of 383 students were used. Tools: The following tools were used, 1.Self-administered structured questionnaire which involved socio-demographic data and pattern of internet use. 2. Internet addiction test.3 structured questionnaire related to health belief model constructs.Results: After the intervention, the prevalence of internet addiction significantly decreased in post the intervention 44.86 ± 11.04 compared by pre intervention74.43 ± 12.71 and the mean scores of health belief model  constructs significantly increased in post-test 96.86 ± 7.59 compared by pretest 62.76 ± 7.72. Conclusion: the perceptions of the students were increase about internet addiction after education based on the health belief model. Recommendation: further educational intervention program based on models dealing with behaviors change to be applied for university student about internet addiction.

Abstract:Internet addictionis a growing problem among university students worldwide.Aim: to assess the effect of educational instruction about Internet Addiction and health of Menofia University StudentsDesign: Quasi experimental design with pre and post-test was utilized. Setting: This study was conducted at four faculties from both scientific and literary faculties in Shebin El-kom City at Menofia University. Subject: A simple random sample consisted of 383 students were used. Tools: The following tools were used, 1.Self-administered structured questionnaire which involved socio-demographic data and pattern of internet use. 2. Internet addiction scale test. Results: This study showed a high percentage of internet addiction among Menofia university students 65.976% which affects their physical, social & psychological wellbeing. After the instruction, the prevalence of internet addiction significantly decreased in post the instruction 44.86 ± 11.04 compared to pre instruction74.43 ± 12.71, and its adverse effects significant decreased.Conclusion: the educational instruction was effective on the reduction the rate of internet addiction and its adverse effects on the health among faculty's students. Recommendation: Raise student's awareness about the danger of internet addiction related to physical, psychological & social health, and learns how to make a better balanced relationship between internet and social media use versus their academic study.

Abstract:Burn is a global health disaster with overwhelming pathophysiological effects. Optimum nutrition is key factor in maintaining all healing phases. However, nutritional support post-burn is sophisticated matter therefore, it is important that nurses assess caloric requirements to avoid malnutrition. Aim: to assess the relationship between nutritional status and wound healing among patients with burn injury. Research questions: What is the nutritional status among patients with burn injury, What is the relation between nutritional status and wound healing among patients with burn injury. Methods: A descriptive correlational study conducted over 10 months. 70 convenient patients included. Nutritional status assessed by 24hr. dietary recall, anthropometric measurements, wound status by BWAT. Results: 62.9% were male, 61.4% married, 91.4% had severe injury, 85.7% had second and third degrees, thermal injury 78.6%. Food intake in 1st reading was below need 57.1%, 14.3%, 25.7%, 67.1% for protein, carb, fat, calories respectively. There was significant difference in wound status (t=8.617, p=0.000) 80% had wound of mild severity in 1st reading, improved to minimal severity 45.7% in 3rd reading. Regarding BWAT scores, at 3rd reading, there was positive moderate relation with carbohydrate (r=0.38) P≤0.001, positive moderate relation with calories (r=0.33) and positive moderate relation (r=0.34) with fat while negative weak relation in 1st reading (r=-0.25). Conclusions: Inadequate nutrition might cause impaired healing as wound deteriorated when increasing carbohydrate and fat over needed requirements. In addition, improvement in wound severity level was observed when increasing protein intake.

Abstract:Anterior wall myocardial infarction (MI) is a varieties of MI which involves the anterior most part of the heart and part of the ventricular septum. The diagnosis is aided by 12 lead ECG showing ST-elevation in leads V1-V6, I and aVL; major vessels involved is left anterior descending artery. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine ECG parameters, assess the role of ST-segment depression in the leads II, III, aVF to locate the culprit artery accurately as compared to Coronary Angiography (CAG) in anterior wall MI. Methods: A retrospective study was done from January 2018 to December 2018 by taking the clinical records of the 151 patients having Anterior wall MI, admitted and underwent CAG in the Department of Cardiology, First Hospital of Jilin University. Results: There were 112 male and 39 female patients. Among the included patients, 106 were smokers. Proximal stenosis was found in 11 male patients and 10 in female patients. Middle & distal stenosis was found in 101 male patients and 29 female patients. Among the assessed patients, the result suggested that gender was the influencing factor. It was observed that the male patient had anterior wall MI than that of the female patients. Conclusion: Coronary Angiogram is the gold standard investigation for diagnosing area of stenosis in spite of having normal ECG’s. Hence, patients who are clinically presenting with symptoms of MI and having normal ECG findings have to be further evaluated to rule out AWMI and to decrease morbidity and mortality.

Abstract: Background: Chemotherapy extravasations remain an accidental complication of chemotherapy administration and may result in serious damage to patients. Globally, the burden of cancer continues to increase with an expected 19.3 million new cancer cases by 2025. In 2012 (the most recent data available), 14.1 million new cancer cases were diagnosed and 8.2 million people died from cancer. Aim: To evaluate the effect of implementing educational program for nurses' on prevention of chemotherapy extravasations complications among cancer patients. Design: A quasi – experimental design was used. Setting: The current study was conducted in outpatient chemotherapy clinic at Ain-Shams university Hospital. Subjects: Purposive sample included all available (30) nurses and (30) adult patient who had cancer. Study tools: Three tools used for data collection; 1) Nurses socio-demographic characteristics, 2) Observational checklist for chemotherapy administration, 3) Assessment of extravasation complications. Results: Highly statistically improvement in nurse's practice were found post educational program implementation (P<0.000), as well as complications of chemotherapy extravasations were decreased after improvement of nurses practice. Conclusion: There was a significant improvement of nurses' practices regarding chemotherapy administration after educational program. Recommendations: The study recommended the importance of establishing educational programs in all Egyptian oncology centers for alleviating chemotherapy extravasations complications among cancer patients.

Abstract:Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Cancer treatments as chemotherapy often cause a host of adverse effects, Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) are the most common adverse effects of chemotherapy that may prevent successful treatment completion. Aim:  The aim of the study was to examine the effect of acupressure on chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting among patients with lung cancer. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-posttest nonequivalent control group design was utilized.A convenient sample composed of 60 adult male and female patients admitted to the Oncology Department, in one of the governmental hospitals in Egypt, were recruited, and equally randomly allocated to a control and study groups. One questionnaire and four scales were used to collect the data: (1) Demographic data sheet, (2) Rhodes Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (INVR), (3) Multidimensional Fatigue Symptom Inventory-Short Form (MFSI-SF), (4) Beck Anxiety Inventory, and (5) The Functional Living Index-Emesis (FLIE). Patients were followed up for two chemotherapeutic cycles. Results: The study group achieved a significantly higher reduction in the mean nausea and vomiting distress score, decreased mean fatigue and anxiety scores as well as improved functional living activities after receiving acupressure compared to the control group. Conclusion: Acupressure could decrease severity of nausea and vomiting, reduce fatigue and anxiety and improve functional living activities in patients with cancer and scheduled on chemotherapy sessions. Recommendation: Acupressure could be recommended to be endorsed as a nursing practice for patients on chemotherapy sessions in the early course of the disease, so that the patients experience the maximum benefit.

Abstract:Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the most common kind of heart surgery. Good pain control after surgery is important to facilitate overall recovery, improve patient satisfaction, and reduce health care cost. Deep breathing technique is a non-pharmacological way to counteract the negative effects of surgery as reducing pain, and to refocus attention away from uncomfortable events.Aim of the study: To determine the effect of deep breathing technique on severity of pain among postoperative coronary artery bypass graft patients. Research design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized. Setting: The study was conducted inthe cardio-thoracic intensive care unit at Fayoum University Hospitals. Methods: A purposive sample of 60 adult patients from both genders who were randomly and alternatively divided into two equal groups study and control (30 patients in each). Tools:  data collection tool included:  Interview patient’s assessment sheet, patient observational checklist sheet, pain assessment and vital signs.Results: The study revealed that there was a significant difference in decrease of pain severity among study group after implementing the deep breathing technique. Conclusion: the application of deep breathing technique for CABG patients is effective in decreasing severity of pain.Recommendations: Apply the deep breathing technique for each patient undergoing CABG.

Abstract:Stroke is a common, serious, and disabling global health-care problem and rehabilitation is a major part of patient care.  The aimof the present study was to evaluate the impact of nursing rehabilitation intervention for post-stroke patients in Beni-Suef.  Design: A quasi-experimental design with two groups (case & control group) pre/post assessment test was utilized to achieve this study aim. Sample and Setting: A convenience sample was selected under the inclusion & exclusion criteria (100 post stroke patients) were included in the study. The study was conducted in the outpatient in the outpatient clinics of the medical department and rehabilitation unit at Beni-Suef university hospital in Beni-Suef city, Egypt.Sampling technique: patients were consecutively recruited in the study sample according to the eligibility criteria. Tools: data collection tools include two parts: Part I: include questionnaire to assess: socio-demographic characteristics, functional abilities, daily living activity, level of knowledge, reported practice to regain physical ability, Part II: include observational scale that involve two sections; 1- physical abilities include language and motor assessment scale 2- mental abilities involves Hamilton depression rating scale and scale to assess mental activities as critical thinking, concentration and attention.The main results of the present study: the studied stroke patients had unsatisfactory knowledge, practice, and both groups didn’t practice any of the fun activities that help them to regain their affected mental abilities before implementing nursing intervention, while there were significant improvements at studied compared to control group after implementing nursing intervention.Conclusion: the nursing rehabilitation intervention showed positive impact on improving patients' knowledge, practice, Physical & mental abilities and functional abilities and level of depression score among intervention group than control group. Recommendations: Improve educational system to provide adequate structured information to increase self-management in patients with stroke. Also there should be evidence to support rehabilitation in well-coordinated multidisciplinary stroke units or through provision of early supported provision of discharge teams.

Abstract:Deaf and mute adolescents suffer from psychological stress, depression, anxiety, low self -esteem and lack of psychological services provided for them.  Aim: the study aims to assess mental health problems and services of deaf and mute adolescents. Design: A descriptive correlational design was utilized in the current study.Sample: Aconvenient purposive sample (n =200 deaf and mute adolescents). Setting: the study was conducted at El Amal deaf and mute school in Lebanon Square. Data collection tools: Socio demographic data sheet, manifest anxiety scale, stress scale, psychological needs scale, self -esteem scale, Beck depression scale psychological services scale. Main results: Deaf and mute adolescents suffer from high level of (anxiety, depression and psychological stress), and moderate level of psychological services which provided for them. Also represented that, there was positive significant relation between anxiety and psychological stress (p=.002), there was positive significant relation between depression and anxiety (p=.0001), there was positive significant relation between depression and psychological stress (p=.0001), there was positive significant relation between self-esteem and satisfaction of psychological needs (p=.005) and there was negative significant relation between depression and satisfaction of psychological needs. Conclusion: Mental health problems of deaf and mute adolescents might be increased due to limit special psychological foundation for them, and sign language is not familiar for all medical team. Recommendations: The study recommended that presence of an interpreter of sign language in all psychiatric clinics to decrease their mental health problems.
