Abstract: The efficient handling of passenger baggage is essential in ensuring operational effectiveness and passenger satisfaction in airports. At Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3—which caters to over 9 million passengers and 40+ international airlines—baggage mishandling remains a persistent operational issue.

This study used a quantitative-descriptive design involving 120 participants to determine the most common causes of baggage mishandling and their connection to demographics. Results showed four major causes: mishandling by airport staff (Mean = 3.48), communication breakdowns (Mean = 3.33), technical issues (Mean = 3.15), and passenger errors (Mean = 3.05). Statistical analysis revealed significant differences based on age (p = 0.022) and purpose of travel (p = 0.041).

Recommendations include implementation of RFID tracking, refresher training for handlers, enhanced passenger awareness campaigns, and deployment of AI-based detection tools.

Abstract: With the intensification of population aging, the integrated medical and elderly care service has become a crucial model to meet the health and living needs of the elderly. This paper, combined with national and local policy documents in recent years, analyzes the development status, challenges, and future trends of the integrated medical and elderly care service through literature review and survey data. The study identifies key issues such as regulatory inconsistencies, resource imbalances, and technological gaps, and proposes targeted strategies at governmental, industrial, and service innovation levels. The findings aim to provide a reference for promoting the sustainable development of integrated medical and elderly care services in China.

Abstract: This study explored alternative staple food options to mitigate maize shortages in Zambia, focusing on Lufwanyama District. It aimed to identify viable alternatives, assess the impact of community education programs on awareness and adoption, and propose supportive policy recommendations. Using a mixed-methods exploratory design, data were collected from 120 participants through questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussions. Findings revealed cassava (66.7%) and sweet potatoes (50.0%) as the most recognized alternatives, with cassava showing a significant association. Awareness of community education programs varied, and those very familiar with such programs were 3.49 times more likely to adopt alternative staples. Key support measures included financial assistance (34.7%), technical training (27.8%), and access to quality seeds (20.8%). Respondents also emphasized improved market access (41.7%) and input subsidies (34.7%) as crucial. The study therefore recommended that local authorities promote crop diversification, enhance education programs, improve seed access, and invest in market infrastructure to support the adoption of alternative staples.

Abstract: Performance contracting is a strategic management tool aimed at aligning individual efforts with broader organizational objectives through the establishment of clear goals, measurable outcomes, and systematic performance evaluation. In the East African cement industry, employee behavioural well-being is often compromised by hazardous working conditions, which contribute to high levels of occupational stress is estimated that between 10% and 15% of employees in this sector experience heightened work-related stress.  This study explored the effect of target setting within performance contracting on employee behavioural well-being at the East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC). A descriptive research design was adopted, targeting a population of 467 employees from various organizational levels. Using Cochran’s formula, a representative sample of respondents was determined and distributed proportionally through stratified sampling. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale. A pilot study involving 10 participants was conducted to ensure the reliability of the research instrument.  Descriptive statistics, including means, percentages, and standard deviations, were utilized to summarize the data. Inferential analysis was carried out using correlation and regression techniques. The findings revealed a significant and positive relationship between target setting and employee behavioural well-being (β = 0.433, B = 0.426, p < .001). The study recommends the adoption of inclusive and strategic goal-setting practices, where employees actively participate in defining clear and attainable performance targets. Such involvement is likely to enhance ownership, motivation, job satisfaction, and overall performance within the organization.

Abstract: The study explored the significance and potential of partnerships in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth through the commercialization of research. Academia-industry collaboration is a vital mechanism for addressing critical global and African development challenges. Drawing from global examples and focusing on Zambia as a case study, the study underscores the mutual benefits of collaboration for both academia and industry. The study adopted a qualitative research design through a comprehensive literature review to explore academia-industry collaboration globally and in Africa, with a focus on Zambia. A purposive sample of 30 peer-reviewed articles and case studies published between 2010 and 2024 was drawn from databases like JSTOR, Scopus, and Google Scholar. A structured review matrix guided data extraction, and thematic analysis was used to identify key patterns, challenges, and best practices relevant to strengthening such partnerships. Key findings revealed that aligning academic curricula with industry needs, investing in research infrastructure, and fostering public-private partnerships are essential to bridging gaps between academia and industry. In Zambia, specifically, the lack of practical skills among graduates and limited research funding pose significant barriers to effective partnerships. Successful examples, such as collaborations between the University of Zambia and industries like Zambia Sugar Company, highlight the potential for these partnerships to enhance both academic learning and industry performance. The study therefore recommended strengthening curriculum alignment with labor market demands, investing in innovation hubs, and encouraging public-private partnerships through government policies and incentives. Additionally, fostering a culture of collaboration and promoting industry-specific research in critical sectors such as agriculture and renewable energy are proposed as solutions to address Zambia's unique challenges.
