Abstract: This study ought to investigate coping mechanisms among primary pupils witnessing domestic violence in Iringa Municipality. The study was guided by three specific objectives: first, to identify the types of domestic violence witnessed by pupils; second, to establish the effects of witnessing domestic violence among pupils and third, and explore coping mechanisms employed by pupils who witness domestic violence. The study was conducted in Iringa municipal in two wards, a qualitative research approach was used and a  phenomenological research design was used; a purposive judgemental sampling technique was used to sample 51 participants to provide the  data needed. Primary data was collected by using interviews and focus group discussions and secondary data was collected by using documentary review. The findings revealed that physical and sexual abuse are the forms of violence witnessed by the majority of the pupils; also pupils who witness domestic violence apply unhealthy ways of coping such as running away from home and intervening in the violence. Lastly, findings indicate that children that witnessed domestic violence are affected psychologically and socially and are likely to develop problems such as trauma, withdrawal, hopelessness and anxiety. The study recommends that parents and caregivers should be educated on the effects of children witnessing domestic violence. In addition, the government should employ and post counsellors in institutions to deal with children all over the country.

Abstract: This study aimed at evaluating psychological intervention adjustment for people living with diabetes in Iringa Municipality. Primary data were collected from 30 participants living with diabetes, 40 family members and 22 health services providers by means of survey tool (questionnaire). The sample was chosen from five wards using purposive sampling technique. The analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS ver. 20, IBM, USA) and the findings of the study show that psychological adjustment services dealing with diabetes mellitus are available and affected people are aware about the services provided. The results further revealed that psychological treatment helps patients to identify self-management strategies. Furthermore, the study revealed that psychologists have identified depression, anxiety, diabetes distress, mild cognitive impairment, intellectual disabilities, maladaptive eating behaviours, dementia, and psychotic disorders as mental health conditions most commonly encountered in practice. The study recommends that, the importance of treatment adherence in determining the health outcomes of patients with diabetes should be considered to be the important role of psychopathology in enhancing the services provision. The specialists should ensure a comprehensive approach that integrates the treatment of psychological problems with the aim of improving health behaviours and diabetes treatment.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a relationship between self-directed learning and academic achievement among second year BEED students at UM Peñaplata College. This particular study has used the quantitative–descriptive correlational design to determine the level of self-directed learning in terms of learning motivation, planning and implementing, self-monitoring, and interpersonal communication to academic achievement. The researchers utilized an adapted questionnaire for the Self-Directed Learning and used a secondary data for the academic achievement of students. The statistical tools used in the study were the Mean and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation (Pearson r). The result shows that among the second year BEED students the level of self-directed learning is at high level which means that self-directed learning is manifested most of the time. The students’ level of academic achievement is B+ Distinction means that the students are performing well and able to understand the lesson well. Moreover, there was no significant relationship between students’ level of self-directed learning and level of academic achievement; it is understandable that the increase and decrease of level of self-directed learning doesn’t affect the level of academic achievement. The study confirmed that there is no significant relationship between self-directed learning and academic achievement. Therefore, further study is required to clearly understand the other mechanisms between these two variables.

Abstract: The research study focused on the state and non-state policies employed to manage cattle rustling among pastoral communities in Kenya. The general objective was an evaluation of the interface between state and non-state policies in cattle rustling management among pastoral communities in Kenya. The specific objectives the effect of faith based policies, in the management of cattle rustling in Kenya. The area under study was in North western Kenya which comprised Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo and Samburu counties with a population of 2,980,035. The sample size was 444 determined by use of Krejcie, R.V., & Morgan, D.W table.  Findings indicate that the Churches/mosques supports locals by loans to own permanent structures (mean score of 4.862), the Churches/mosques provides employment after school with a mean score of 4.138, further Churches/mosques offers education on good farming with mean score of 3.434. The Churches/mosques encourages community intermarriages with a mean score of 3.406) and finally the Churches/mosques offers locals market to their produce (mean of 2.453). It is apparent that state based policy interventions could only work if the members of the public were fully engaged before security disarmament exercises. To management cattle rustling, the Government of Kenya therefore has an option of engaging Public participation with the help of Faith- based leadership as primary lead agencies to spearhead sensitization before any security stabilization programs.

Abstract: This study is an attempt to assess the psychosocial effects of ex-prisoners and the mitigating strategies as they integrate into the community. Specifically, to examine psychosocial support that ex-prisoners receive when re-integrating in their community; to determine challenges that ex-prisoners experience in integrating themselves in their community; and to identify the mitigating mechanisms provided to support ex-prisoners to effective integration in their community. A descriptive design was applied where study included a sample of 70 ex-prisoners of 2020-2021 from Iringa Municipality, community members, legal officers, prison officers and psychologists. The data were analysed using descriptive statistical and content analysis. From the findings, it was revealed that there is a lack of rehabilitation programs in the prison which prepare expected ex-prisoners to re-integrate with the community. Furthermore, there is lack of aftercare support from community members to ex-prisoners. Still there is isolation among ex-prisoners from community members. In addition, there is lack of housing to ex-prisoners, lack of employment opportunities as well as lack of finance to ex-prisoners when re-integrating in the community as the majority of the respondents agreed to the statements. Besides, there is lack of social support and criminal justice support provided to ex-prisoners as mitigating mechanisms for effective ex-prisoners integrating into the community. It is concluded that lack of rehabilitation programs to ex-prisoners when they re-integrate into the community discourages ex-prisoners to face the community. The study recommends that rehabilitation programs in the prisons should be conducted with the aim of preparing ex-prisoners to integrate into the community. Moreover, the government should amend its criminal regulations and offer employment opportunities to ex-prisoners to access sources of incomes. In addition, more education should be provided to the ex-prisoners and community members with the aim of letting them socialise and work together hence minimising the rate of re-offending among ex-prisoners and isolation among community members.

Abstract: Currently in Tanzania many parent’s choice private English medium schools to send their children for education. Again, there is rapidly increasing of private English medium schools in the country. There for this study aims at examining the reasons of the parents to send their children in private English medium schools for the education. This study used. Qualitative research design, the study used purposive sampling to select ten parents for interview. The study selects ten parents those who have children in private English medium in Njombe region. The result showed that most parents made a choice of private English medium schools for a number of reasons such as Foundation of English language, Connection with the world, Language of Instruction, International Language and Competition for Employment. The study recommends that Government may think on introducing English language as a medium of instruction to all schools and Kiswahili remain as a compulsory subject from pre-primary schools to University level.
