Abstract: Water sources provide quantities of water suitable for drinking or after treatment. We used mathematical indices to know the quality and sweetness of the Gharraf River, which is one of the important branches of the Tigris. The period of the study were one year from (2015-2016) with monthly measurements. The results of the measurements and the evaluating the river water was good for drinking at the first station, and low in stations 4, 3, 2, and in station 5, it is very low, without taking the turbidity. The water indicators of the river as unfit for drinking through the pipes. Overall, the study emphasized the importance of using indicators of freshness and water quality to help the population in the region to take more care of water quality.

Abstract: The incapacitation of government to regenerate urban waterfronts increases slums, squatters settlements and absence of facilities for the comfort, functional, aesthetics and working environment for the entire population. The article scanned the abandonment and inability to regenerate antediluvian waterfronts and expunge unhealthy environment in Port Harcourt borough Nigeria. The investigation considered both descriptive and inferential survey design and targeted the total population of 210 household’s heads through questionnaire administration. The e-books, research work, conference/seminar papers, official records, reports and monographs formed the secondary sources of data generated. The analysis employed mean index value (MIV) and standardized coefficient (beta) regression statistics test of 0.05 significant points. The outcomes shown that poor aesthetics and facilities (2.9750), unrestricted population (2.8000), blighted and slum condition (27917) etc are rampant in un-redeveloped urban waterfront. However, the result further retained (R² = 0.967, significant at 0.01) clarifying 96.7% spatial deterioration of un-redeveloped antediluvian waterfronts settlements found in urban areas. The Adjusted recorded R² = 0.973, designates 97.3% confidence of panorama for urban waterfronts neglect, spatial disorder and slum condition of various land uses. In positions with the research findings, the work recommended that government should rehabilitate and provide adequate infrastructural facilities for abandoned urban waterfronts settlements to lessen the poor environmental quality that engulf the area and embolden real estate developers to participate in purchase and rehabilitation of various land uses to attract the occupancy or tenancy of households from different part of human settlement

Abstract: The coastal ecosystem diversity in Sri Lanka is a combination of several ecosystems which are estuaries, lagoons, beaches, rocky shores, sand dunes, salt marshes and mangroves. Saltmarsh vegetation is mainly found in Northwestern and Southeastern regions in Sri Lanka. This ecosystem in the Northern region of Sri Lanka have not received any attention from ecologists for a long period of time. This review studying the saltmarsh vegetation, mainly halophyte species in Mannar landscape, Sri Lanka. The unique features of salt marsh vegetation, previous and current classifications of Sri Lankan saltmarsh vegetation and the physical morphological characteristics of saltmarsh halophytes in Mannar with the observations are focusing to communicating by this paper.

The saltmarsh halophytes are unique vegetation including a conservational importance, the coastal studies are currently discussed as the issues of sea level rising with the global warming. Sri Lankan saltmarsh halophytes, Sesuvium portulacastrum, Salicornia branchiata, Suaeda maritima, Suaeda monoica, Suaeda vermiculata, Tecticornia indica (Halosarcia indica) and Cressa cretica are assessed unique physical characteristics, qualitative morphological features such as colour variations of plants with their age and other environmental factors.

Since this coastal wetland has numerous ecological, economical and other variety of values, conserving these habitats are very important. Saltmarsh halophytes consist with important physical and chemical properties are also adding a greater importance to the coastal wetlands. Since restoring or rehabilitation of a coastal habitat is a costly and time-taking process compare to the terrestrial habitats the scope of this review is highlighting the uniqueness and conserving importance to the society.
